RC4 pre-purchase questions:

Featured Replies

Can't see this on the forum already, so apologies if I missed it.I understand that the native FS9 ATC assigns approaches at airports based on factors such as the longest runway with an ILS, followed by the next longest runway (with an ILS maybe), for maybe several options depending on local wind direction. And no doubt all this is topped by whether the approach is visual or not.Does RC4 use the same logic for generating approaches- and if so, can the preferred approach be changed to reflect more realistic airport operations? Second- something I always appreciate when flying real IFR is when Center tells me to "expect the 123 approach", giving me lots of time to brief the approach and get prepared before Approach starts vectoring me. Is the "expect" function available?Thanks- Bruce.

the runway selection criteria is as followsif there ai using a runway for takeoffs, i pick that one for your takeoff. if they are using multiple ones for takeoffs, i pick one (the first one in the fsuipc tcas table. or it may be the last one, i forget)if there are not ai, then i will pick the best runway based on wind and aircraft type for takeoffon arrivalsame with the ai. i choose the one the ai are usingif there are no ai, then i pick an ils equiped runway. if there are multiple ils runways, i pick the best one in to the wind, and i factor in the length of the runway and aircraft typeif there are no ils equiped runways, then i pick the best runway based on wind and length for aircraft type.you can always request a different runway. but do it at your own risk. you may find yourself head to head to an aiif you want to choose to fly a specific approach, you can ask for it, while in the approach airspace. for now, center is not telling you what approach to expect (that is high on doug's list).so in essence you can listen to arrival atis, and figure out runway is in use, find your charts, pick your approach, and then ask approach for that approachjd

he didn't tell you what approach (ils, vor-a, ndb, gps, etc)but you did hear what runway was active, and which one you should expectjd

Getting the runway (without the approach) is cool though. This at least lets you plan which runway and maybe select an approach. Or circle to the active runway from another approach.Bruce.
