ADV display causing SERIOUS fps drop

Featured Replies

HAd done a few flights with RC and went ok, although I noticed frames were lower than normal ( I lock mine at 20). The last 2 days I have been trying to fly and had to about both times because frames were in the mid single digits. These flights were in bad weather.Just did an experiment. Took the A36 Bonanza to a small a/p in Ohio...cleared the weather and checked in & out of the plane. Spot view locked at 20, cockpit 17-18. Started RC, opened ADV window.....frames outside dropped to 12, inside dropped to 9. Remember now this is with zero weather. Add weather & traffic and it drops farther. Closed the window.....frames jumped back to 20 & 18 repectively. Tried 3 different video drivers....all do the same.Computer specs:P4 2.53G, 1G RDRAM, NVIDIA TI4600 (128MBHas this problem never come up before?Any ideas?Rick

Hi,Some have reported similar things. It seems to be card/driver dependent and is probably worse when trying to superimpose the advdisplay window on a 3d window (external view, virtual cockpit).Have you experimented with having the advdisplay window docked or undocked? There also is an option on the fsuipc 'hotkeys' tab to define a key to toggle the advdisplay window on and off.I don't experience these frame rate drops but usually run with the advdisplay on a second monitor anyway. All the best,John

FWIW, I've noticed a few frames (like three). Running at 1024x but it also was 1152x. I'd check refresh rates and Vsync settings on the card.I'll have to recheck the docs. I did get flickering but with 2.14 it seems it is gone. Too many variables to get a quick answer. In V3 of RC the flickering had to do with the ATC text option on which displayed in the adv window, not the green bar.A note to Pete perhaps?

Also - set your framerates to unlimited. I've found on my system I have better performance with unlimited framerates than with locking them at 20. The tradeoff is your scenery may take a little longer to draw when switching windows - but generally, I prefer the higher refresh on my flightdeck.I haven't noticed any framerate hit with Adven. display - but I keep it docked in a 2D panel and fly in 3D - I hardly look at adventure display, except when using a newe feature I'm not used too.
