AI Smooth question

Featured Replies

Okay, I'm dense.I have searched and read some of the posts concerning using AI Smooth with RC4. But, I am still confused. From what I read about the RC4 release, I got the impression that RC4 was handling AI. If that is the case, why would you want to run AI Smooth and use up resources?I know, I know? It is obvious. But can someone point out the obvious to me?Thanks,Wilson

i'm not familiar with all that ai smooth does.rc detects when ai are going to cause a conflict enroute, and moves them out of the way.on final faster planes behind you are slowed down, and slower planes in front of you are sped upthe only downside i've heard about aismooth, is it sets the tcas distance to 40. that cuts way back on the ai chatter you hear in rc. for rc purposes, set the the tcas distance to 0 (essentially no limitation).others may comment on the two together, or seperatejd

I used to use AI Smooth all the time. Since I am using RC4, I find I have no need for it anymore . The only problem I have with AI traffic now, is at busy airports, with Ultimate traffic AI set at 100%, I may have to wait for quite awhile before I get to take off. Workaround for that is to ask for another runway that doesn't have a long conga line of aircraft waiting to depart. I have had zero problems on arrival, with AI conflicts....... :)

Thanks for the responses, guys. That is what I thought. I saw no need to use AI Smooth or AI Separator with RC4. In fact, that was one of the features of RC4 that I was looking forward to.I raised the question because someone had said how great the two worked together! :-hmmm I'll shut it down.Wilson

Or take-off short - hold at the next taxiway down the runway and you'll be cleared ahead of the big boys.On AI smooth - I haven't used it since RC4 and RC4 does a great job of keeping traffic out of your way (isn't that what ATC is supposed to do :) )

>Or take-off short - hold at the next taxiway down the runway>and you'll be cleared ahead of the big boys.>>>>Will RC4 recognize that you are at the active, if you are at an intersection? I will have to try that.....

Hi Bob,If you are close enough to the runway centreline and stationary RC will assume you are wanting for clearance to taxi into position. All the best,John

The thing aismooth does which RC doesn't is to try and control the spacing of aircraft on final before they are on final if you see what I mean. So is you are waiting in line for departure, for example, ai smooth should stop those situations where two or more ai fly 'formation' on short final.

. . . and the seperation between AI is user adjustable. It spaces out the string-of-pearls situations. For use with RC4 turn the AISmooth option "Respond to User Aircraft" off. RC is interacting with AI control at this point. I find that AISmooth still helps with AI clustering.AI Sep is the one that duplicates what RC 4 does by slewing AI out of your way.

>Hi Bob,>>If you are close enough to the runway centreline and>stationary RC will assume you are wanting for clearance to>taxi into position.>>All the best,>>JohnVery Cool, can't wait to try it tonight..

It works - I've done it at CYYZ after seeing a lineup of about 15 aircraft for the end of the active. Just make sure your on the hold line so RC4 will recognise you waiting for takeoff

Ron and John:Thanks for the info.I am going to see how RC4 handles AI without AI Smooth or Sep. But it is good to know that there may be a legitimate reason to keep using one or the other. The bigger issue for me is keeping AI off of the runway when I am about to touch down. I am really tired of doing go-arounds because of that.Wilson
