December 27, 200520 yr Hi,today I did the following flight:_________________________________________________________LIRF to LIPZ@27000 (Alt1- , Alt2-) / BOL.VERUN.DENAL.VERNA.BAGNO.PELEG.BUSON.ROVIG.CHI. *RVSMDeparture Procedure w/ Altitude Restrictions,D/ATIS(11800) D/CD(12180) D/GND(12190) D/TWR(11930) D/DEP(13090) D/ARR(13090)A/ATIS(12480) A/GND(12170) A/TWR(12020) A/DEP(12210) A/ARR(12210)LUFTHANSA 3 2 1 0 Jetdisplay text(OFF) play pilot(ON) auto reply(ON) ckpt ding(ON) AI interaction(ON) tune on contact(ON) vfr squawk(1200) 250kt alt(10000) Alt dev(1000) Hdg dev(15) Spd dev(15) AI chatter(ON) Live chatter(ON)_________________________________________________________Immediatly after ROVIG intersection @FL110 the Controller (Milano Center) directed me to Heading 130. After this directive the controller never came back to me, although RC4 was still running and the controller was responding to AI flights.I noticed one thing: At that point of time FL110 and no longer FL270 was stated in the RC4 flight plan window. After flying on this course for 50 miles @FL110 I cancelled the IFR service.Happened to me two times in a row with this flight plan.
December 27, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Thomas,I have a flightplan for this route so it's one I have flown with RC4 during testing. At ROVIG you are 40 miles from LIPZ and you report being at FL110 which suggests a straight-in approach to Rwy 04R.After contacting Approach passing ROVIG I would have expected you to be given a heading to fly directly towards LIPZ - 025 or 030. Are you sure you didn't mistake 030 for 130?Try flying it again but this time when you're descending through FL130 save your flight using CTRL+SHIFT+; which saves all the RC4 info and the FS9 flight and weather details. If the problem persists you could send that to us for investigation.Hope that helps. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 27, 200520 yr Moderator Thomas,Out of curiosity I flew LIRF-LIPZ using the iFly 747-400. On reaching ROVIG I contacted Approach and shortly after was given a heading of 310 and cleared down to FL80. A short time later heading was changed to 010 and I was cleared down to my final approach altitude of 2000ft. I'm guessing you misheard 310 as 130 which would explain why you were off course. Not quite what I guessed earlier but it gave me a 30 degree intercept heading for Rwy 04R. Approach and landing was fine.In your flight plan the turn towards CHI would have been overruled by Approach. If you fly this again I'm sure you'll have no problems. Give us a shout if you do but try and remember to save the flight (CTRL+SHIFT+semi-colon) just before you reach FL110 so you can refly that last part if required. All this is based on you requesting vectors to a ILS approach. If you requested a IAP approach you will be expected to have filed the waypoints to fly it yourself. You won't get vectors.Hope that helps. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 28, 200520 yr Ray,no sorry I did not mistake the heading.ATC definitly stated One - Three - Zero.I tried to change the heading myself then and was advised by ATC to remain on heading One - Three - Zero @FL110.It would have been a straight in for 04R according to the local weather information. Before everything the flight went fine, no problems.I will try to repeat the flight and save the information for you.
December 28, 200520 yr This morning I made LIPZ -> EDDN.Center directed me down to FL120 before DKB VOR, which was the last waypoint on my flightplan. Then Center told me to fly heading 065, which wasn't that bad.But at the same moment it also said "... when reaching FL120". ??? - I was already flying at FL120 (with standard QMH) for quite a while. (Note: Out of rememberance I think that the flight to LIPZ Center also said to me "fly heading 130 ... when reaching FL 110", although I was already at FL110.Then for a long time nothing happened and it was obvious that I should already have been handed over to EDDN arrival and be directed to a lower altitude, because I was very close to the LOC. Just for a test I then started a descent to FL110 and suddenly just before reaching FL110 I was passed over to EDDN arrival.Strange!
December 28, 200520 yr Hi there,Did you hear a message which said something like 'you missed your crossing restriction. etc'RC gives instructions which amount to telling you to be at a certain altitude/FL at a point 40 miles from the airport. What you describe sounds rather like a missed crossing restriction.Since DKB is about 40 miles from EDDN it sounds like RC was working on a crossing restriction of FL110.All the best,John
December 28, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Thomas,<>Okay. It does seem odd that you would be vectored to the south-east when I was vectored to the north-west. Please fly this route again when you get the chance. Please also confirm you were on standard pressure at FL110 and not QNH. I say this because 130 is the opposite heading to 310 which is what I was told to fly and could have been caused by you not making the crossing restriction.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 28, 200520 yr Yes, I was on standard pressure and not on local QNH.And I am using FSUIPC 3.52 - Just for your information.
December 28, 200520 yr Negative, nothing about a crossing restriction.Just the part "... when reaching FL120" and as I said I was already at FL120.I was waiting for the "descent-to-FL110-when-reaching-FL110-reduce-speed-to-250 knots" instruction, which prepares the handover to the approach controller,
December 28, 200520 yr Moderator Thomas,Okay, this is weird. I know you believe you're at the correct flight level but Radar Contact doesn't based on what you've reported on your other flight. Can you save the LIRF-LIPZ flight when you reach FL110 and zip the files up and attach them to your message please. CTRL+SHIFT+; will save three files to your Flight Simulator Files folder. They will be named something like this...361-82723-LIRFLIPZ-7$1. There will be a rcd, Wx and FLT file. Zipped size will be around 200Kb.Please advise aircraft used but if possible please fly using the default 737.Thanks, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 29, 200520 yr For what it is worth, I decided to try this flight since I had never flown in Italy before and I was just curious what RC4 would do. I used the same set up as listed in the first post. The only difference was that I used a Airbus 320-200 (freeware version) instead of a 737 or 747. Anyway, after passing ROVIG I was given a heading of 310 and cleared down to 8000 and then immediately down to 2000. A bit later my heading was changed to 010 for final to 4R.BradKELP/KBIF http://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/BannerSig_BMBanister.jpgAMD Athlon XP 2600, Asus A7V600, 1GB PC3200 DDR, NVidia 128MB GeForce 6800, SB Live
December 29, 200520 yr Hi Brad,Thanks for trying this out. It's nice to visit different different parts of the FS world.Yesterday I wanted to do some testing where there was very little ai traffic and use an airport that's not part of the default FS scenery so ended up in Eastern Russia for the first time (atis temp -39!)Some spectacular scenery courtesy of FS Genesis!I found myself as the tower controller at Chulman (UELL). We do get about in this job :-lolAll the best,John
December 29, 200520 yr Hi John,>I found myself as the tower controller at Chulman (UELL). We>do get about in this job :-lolLucky you didn't have to speak any altitudes in meters then :( ;-)Mike
December 29, 200520 yr Hi Mike,I guess I need to go on a conversion course ;-)I seem to recall there was a Mars probe that Nasa lost because someone sent it an altitude in metres and it was programmed to think in feet. Made all the difference between aerobraking and a fiery end!I've been using some of the scenery recommended over on your Project Tupolev forums. I was particularly impressed with what was available for St Petersburg. I can see I need to spend more time in Russian airspace. I don't know if we can convince jd and Doug to start on Russian procedures though! All the best,John
December 29, 200520 yr Hi John,>I guess I need to go on a conversion course ;-)Hmmm, yes, that would include km/h as well. Pretty easy : Double the kt value and subtract 10% ;-). >I've been using some of the scenery recommended over on your>Project Tupolev forums. I was particularly impressed with what>was available for St Petersburg. I can see I need to spend>more time in Russian airspace. I don't know if we can convince>jd and Doug to start on Russian procedures though!Ahhh yes, that would be a dream !! I think besides meters and km/h it wouldn't be that much, all those airports have SIDs and STARs as well. Besides that, a pretty wide circling approach with a 45 deg LOC intercept is common. And to have some guys record an english voice set with Russian accent would be no problem at all.You should try these two :http://www.avsim.ru/files.phtml?action=download&id=1961http://www.avsim.ru/files.phtml?action=download&id=2754The first is a gorgeous scenery of Novisibirsk airport (use the second entry from the top of the install window). Now in the winter especially nice with snow textures, snow hills and so on. Great atmosphere enhanced with Russian cars, busses, firebrigade trucks, Runway deicing truck (they just flame the ice away) and so on.I use this with our Tu-154 on three monitors. In a dark room these days I almost start to feel cold myself :(The second is a big traffic package especially for that airport. You'll meet almost the entire Russian civil aviation plus some military planes like Flankers and the like. Very tough Callsign test :-)Mike
