December 30, 200520 yr Someone else brought this issue up with regards to the somewhat "robotic" nature of the atc voice clips - so I don't take credit for the idea. I do believe as someone else suggested, that if you speed up the sound files of the controllers and the pilots it would make the spacing between clips less prominent. I believe it would also add to the realism. I love RC v4, I am getting used to the voices, but my problem is the speed of the clips. Part of my problem is that I used EditVoicePack to speed up the default FS ATC and now I am used to the ATC commands being shot out at a fast pace. If I understand correctly the program that you used to edit the sound files is capable of batch processing and speeding up the files. I also understand that not everyone would want to have the faster sound waves so would it be possible to have this available as a separate download for those of us who would prefer a faster soundset? If this is not an option, would you be able to point me in the direction of a freeware of cheap sound editing program that I could use to speed the wave files up as a batch? I tried using the WinXp sound editor but that program has one speed option only "increase speed by 100%", plus I don't think it batch processes so I would have to do all those files one by one. Thanks a lot for a great product!!!
December 30, 200520 yr Commercial Member hang on for a few more weeks. we're working on something that will make the voices a little smoother. so far we have had good feedback on it. the nice thing is, it's done in the program, and we don't have to edit every single wav fileray, dean and myself use two programs. sound forge and wavepad. wavepad has some quirks, and adds some clicks when batch processing, so we have leaned away from that. sound forge is expensive and has a ton of options, that can be overwhelming.i hope what we do with 4.01 will put to bed this robotic issue.i also hope, that as a community of radar contact users, other's will record, and share their voices with us. then if you want to speed them up and upload, you can. all i ask that i be kept in the loop so i can keep the numbering of the winwood directories orderly.jd JD Read my blog
December 30, 200520 yr Author JD - I appreciate the response and have no problems waiting for an update. I did try to contribtue my voice - I think I recorded the controller waves a total of 6 times but Rick said the consistency was not good. That didn't suprise me though I was using my game commander mic. If I pick up a quality mic I'll give it another shot.Have a great new years eve - and best of wishes in the new year!!!!!

December 30, 200520 yr Sir,Is there a list of the recordings that are needed to do a set? In particular, I want my own voice for the pilot. I only saw instructions about random chatter in the manual.BradKELP/KBIF http://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/BannerSig_BMBanister.jpgAMD Athlon XP 2600, Asus A7V600, 1GB PC3200 DDR, NVidia 128MB GeForce 6800, SB Live
December 30, 200520 yr Moderator Let me add my bit to this... Yes, the quality of the recordings is absolutely vital if you want to hear a clear non-robotic voice with good enunciation. You probably have your favourites with the current set.It took about 8-9 hours of editing to make some of the less-well-recorded sets useable. That on top of the time the person recording them took is a huge effort and not something I want to go back to.A well recorded set needs minimal processing and the effort to create it will be appreciated not only by me but by all the owners of RC4 that download it.Back into hole... ;-) Ray (Cheshire, England). December 30, 200520 yr Commercial Member you should have a script directory in the rcv4 directory. there is a small utility to run, to help do the recording.do a small set, and make sure it sounds good before doing the other 1700+ :-)now if you want us to do the crack editing, you will need to work with rick and ray and company come february, when we'll start another round of auditions.you can start anytime, if you want to do the work yourselfif you do record a new set, be sure to share with the fellow rc users by uploading them to avsim.jd JD Read my blog
December 31, 200520 yr Holy Cr*p,Do I ever have a new found respect for you all and the voice recording volunteers? I started to make my own pilot set and is it ever a lot of work to get it to sound good. After 2 hours, I only got three or four wav files done to my liking. Can't even contemplate 1700+. Not sure if I'll ever complete this thing, I'd rather just fly.BradKELP/KBIF http://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/BannerSig_BMBanister.jpgAMD Athlon XP 2600, Asus A7V600, 1GB PC3200 DDR, NVidia 128MB GeForce 6800, SB Live
December 31, 200520 yr Moderator Brad,Are you using a headset mike? That will provide the best quality recordings. A hand-held one is a non-starter as is a built-in mike on a laptop.I prepared a document on getting the best recordings with XP so if you have a headset mike and want to persevere let me know your private email and I'll send it to you.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 1, 200620 yr Yes, I'm using a headset mike. I just spend a lot of time tweaking the sound files after the initial recording. I think I am probably my own worst critic when it comes to getting the final product for each wave. I would be interested in seeing what settings you used for the files. January 1, 200620 yr Moderator Brad,When you say "tweaking" you aren't trimming dead space or making them sound more radio-like are you? No need for that as our processing does it.Just get the recording level good so there's either no clipping or lots of background noise because of too low recording level. Don't get the mike too close to your mouth otherwise Ps and Ts will sound bad. And enunciate your words clearly. Remember the user's main language may not be English.Check your mail.
