January 6, 200620 yr is there any particular reason why everytime I'm givin vectors that put me on downwind for a rwy in my LDS 767 they originally assign me to tight of a d/w relative to the rwy so then im vectored out and then back for the base turn..just wondering? maybee it's b/c of the winds?just a small thing i noticed..thxstephen
January 6, 200620 yr Hi Stephen,In my experience this happens occasionally but certainly not on every flight. All the best,John
January 7, 200620 yr Commercial Member depends on the angle i suppose. it could also be a late turn to downwindjd JD Read my blog

As an example, arriving KIAD and landing 01L. I approached from the west with 40 knot winds from the west. I was initially turned downwind heading 190. Due to the winds the a/c drifts towards the runway. Approach came back and gave me a heading of 205. After 5 miles or so I was turned back to 190 before getting the left turn and finally the turn to intercept the LOC.-michael
