MSFS 24 SU2 released
Are the windshield effects at Ultra back for all aircraft? I think the only mention of 'windshield' in the change notes was under the PC-12(?) I think? Does that mean windshield effects aren't back yet for everything else? I won't get a chance to install SU2 for a few days yet, so I thought I'd ask 🙂 I've been waiting for the proper windshield effects to be back because they were so nice before it was taken away! Subs

AivlaSoft future now looking brighter.
I'm also sad to see Aivlasoft EFB having to shut down. One thing I preferred about Aivlasoft vs Navigraph Charts is that the airport layout would match the sim, including the taxiway labels and runway numbers (even if it was incorrect, but at least it was the same as the sim). I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and move to Navigraph Charts - the charts would show the correct true picture of the airport, but in the sim there may a missing taxiway here or there I guess?

GMT-Time Toggle
The problem I have is sometimes I like to plan a flight to coincide with a particular local time (such as to make a curfew, or during sunrise / sunset to enjoy the view). In FSX I would go to the startup screen and switch between Local and GMT to find the timezone difference. In P3D I haven't found a way to calculate the timezone for any particular airport because of this bug. I tried to google maps which show timezones but it's not always accurate especially if your airport lies along a borderline, or if daylight savings come into effect for some months of the year. I even kept a list of timezones that FSX uses (but only for airports I had been to before). I wish there was a way to extract the timezone for every ICAO airport code in FSX / P3D and display the corresponding +/- GMT values in a .csv or something like that. I'm sure someone with the knowhow on inspecting .bgls would be able to do this but that kind of thing is way over my head. I guess in the meantime, what is the easiest way to work out the timezone for a particular ICAO code that one maybe planning to fly to today? Thanks, Subin.

How are yearly months defined in Australia\NZ versus Europe/USA?
One thing that really confuses me is the date format difference. In Australia we use dd/mm/yy, whereas in the States its mm/dd/yy. Sometimes when you're trying to mentally order a date list in your head, you have to go down the list to check what format it is first (ie. if you see 05/14/13 you know it's dd/mm/yy as there is no 14th month. But you don't realise until you're half way through the list and you have to start all over again!). The other one is the airline schedules - "Winter 13/14" or "Fall13". For the life of me, I can't figure out which one is newer than the other. Trying to find the latest AI schedules in the library is a nightmare! Anyone have a good rule of thumb to remember the schedule cycles? Subin

no ground lights illuminated
I was also having the same issue with landing, taxi, and runway turn off lights not illuminating the ground with the 777. The NGX still has it's landing lights working so I wasn't sure what else to check. Playing around with scenery layers etc, light bloom, spotlight.bmp, etc etc (and everything else), I finally found can get the landing lights by ticking the FSX setting "Advanced Animations" to ON. If I take Advanced Animations OFF, then landing lights also dissapear  Hope this helps, Subin Jacob.

Cold and Dark
While we're on the topic, thought I'd ask this before the 777 comes out. Had the following problem in the NGX but never had the inclination to actually ask and 'fix' it. How do you set up and save a new Cold & Dark panel state after you change some of the company options like using LBS to KGS for example? What I mean is, I want to start the NGX in a C&D state with my own company options. So I go ahead and change the company options, and power down the aircraft (including battery). But now I can't save the panel in that state because the FMC-CDU is also blank. So how does one create a new Cold & Dark startup state? Thanks, Subin.

How good is AS2012 Low level cloud/vis depiction
Subs replied to KL Oo's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumHi Mark, With AS2012 do you get the visibility to reduce well outside the terminal area as you descend though the flightlevels? For me even if the airport has 1/2mile visibility, the visibility only starts going down when I'm 7 or 8 miles from touchdown (and rapidly reduces within the next few miles to 1/2 mile vis at touchdown). No doubt it's my AS2012 settings and I don't get a lot of time to fly & experiment these days but when I saw your post it sounded like you had achieved it somehow. If so, would you mind sharing the settings you're running? Thanks, Subin.

Interesting waypoint names
The best one I've come across is just west of Perth, Australia (I assume it hasn't changed). They lie vertically along a longatude, in sequence from north to south:WONSAJOLLYSWAGYCAMBSBUIYABYLLABONGSUNDERACOOLEBARRTREESIt seems somebody at Airservices has a sense of humor at least :) For those that may not know, these are the words to Australia's famous Waltzing Matilda song :)Subin.

Flight Levels and Hight in meters
Just one thing to remember about adding features like this is that not all aircraft in FS are equiped to fly in these special areas. In real life of course there are minimum equipment, navigational, and redundant requirements that need to be adhered to as per the airspace you wish to fly in. But in FS, adding new gauges your favourite airplane (or default airplanes) isn't always possible which then restricts some users flying in some of these exoctic places. There are convertion charts too, but its still restrictive to some users. HF comms is also another example where oceanic procedures would be great to add into new a version of RC sometime, but FS unfortunatly doesn't contain radios in the HF band. So I just wanted to add that the more 'real' we go, we may actually be pushing some users away by preventing them using FS and RC they way they wish to. Subs

RC V5 Callsigns
Hi again :) Sorry for the delay in responding. I've added those 5 airlines for the v5 list. We generally like to keep the old defunct airlines too because some simmers like to run retro traffic in FS. That's why those old airlines will need to stay on the list. Thanks for your submissions :)Subs

RC V5 Callsigns
Hi :) It may be best to pick out the top 4 or 5 airlines and that way I can add them as user requests into the RCv5 list. Could you pick out your top 4 or 5? Thanks,Subs

Bringing RC4 into the new Millenium
DAN AIR isn't an airline was included in v4, and it is a little complicated to add it now. But if you want to, yes, you'll have to record the DAN AIR callsign yourself with a mic. Name the wav "Dan Air.wav" and it has to be recorded/saved as single channel 8-bit PCM 11025Hz. Now copy that file into all folders between (inclusive):..\RCv4\winwood\0 to ..\RCv4\winwood\22and..\RCv4\winwood\50 to ..\RCv4\winwood\63and..\RCv4\winwood\84 to ..\RCv4\winwood\95.Now create a plain text file called DAN AIR.txt and make the contents of it a single line at the top that says DAN AIR. Copy this DAN AIR.txt file into:..\RCv43\script\controllerscripts and ..\RCv43\script\pilotscripts.And then just to verify, the line you should have added (alphabetical order) into c4.csv is:DAN AIR,DAN AIR,Dan Air,0, 0 See how that goes. Make backups etc every step of the way. And just a word of warning before you put the effort in - whenever you have the original recorder's voices mixed in with your own it isn't going to sound very good because of the mix-n-match. But if you don't mind, go for it :)Subs

Bringing RC4 into the new Millenium
Yes as Ron says, there are ways to include and exclude certain airlines as required. But I would suggest changing the atc airline= line in your aircraft.cfg first as the preferred method as it is much easier to undo what you changed if you have to. The America West / US Air / CACTUS is a good example of this. It's far easier to change the US Air atc airline= line to CACTUS than to change RC's data file. Also be aware of recording your own callsign wavs as an addition or substitution to the exsisting set as your own voice will sound different to the original recorders. If you're ok with that, have fun recording any updates that you may wish to make. One note about what Ron said - don't change the first line of '4025 to anything else. Keep it as '4025 regardless of how many lines you take out or add.I also cannot stress enough the importance of making a backup copy before modifying. Trust me, I've spent days at a time trying to work out where a extra comma is or where it shouldn't be. One character out and RC can misbehave :)Subs

Airline CallSign
Unfortunatly ACEY wasn't recorded for v4 since at the time Atlantic Southeast was using CANDLER. Changing it to ACEY would mean everyone who recorded for v4 would need to record a new wav now.But ACEY has been marked for recording in v5 though.Subs

Not hearing sounds for Radar Contact
:( Hi again Jeremy,I guess if you're running FSX with all the sliders maxed out and still not seeing any FPS problems (I so envy you :( ) then I guess there is little if at all anything to be gained from running WideFS. But then I guess you could still run a seperate computer if you have one handy just to run a moving map display or pdf/jpg charts, or a digital load sheet etc. So I find muti-monitors useful, with or without WideFS.Subs

Not hearing sounds for Radar Contact
Hi again Jeremy,Firstly, sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks for your discoveries with the virtual surround effect - perhaps this is what is causing my sound issue as well, even though I'm outputing though a digital optical cable so I suspect any virtual surround settings would be off/set to none. But I'll play around and see if I can confirm this as the issue.Pete Dowson's WideFS is (as I discovered recently) is a great piece of software, and is probably the easiest thing to setup ever. It runs on a second networked computer, and allows any FS software installed on that computer to 'connect' and interact with the FS computer over your local LAN (as if it was running on the FS machine). So as an example, you could install and run ActiveSky on the second computer. And because ActiveSky is installed and running on the second computer, the second computer does all the processing work but the changes it makes can be seen on the FS machine (in this case Activesky changing the weather). Does that make sense? The benifit of it is that it leaves the FS machine to run nothing but FS giving better FPSs, and allowing the second computer to use its own processing power to run all the additional programs (like AS, or RC, EFB, or FSFK, etc). There are no multi-monitor requrements, as you're running that second computer seperatly from the FS computer. If you're really looking to max the sliders up, WideFS may benefit you. Here is the link to Pete's site where WideFS's manual can be downloaded:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmlHope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions :)Subs

Not hearing sounds for Radar Contact
Hi Jeremy,This is something that I have found as well and was never able to solve the issue. I too have the problem with Win7 64bit even though previous OSs ran RC perfectly. We narrowed it down to some hardware conflict perhaps to do with Hi Def sound cards that are available with new computers these days. What I do now is run a seperate cheepo computer running RC with WideFS. It's actually much better this way because I can adjust RC's volume compared to FS's. Also on this second computer, I display SID/STAR charts, Approach plates, and airport layout diagrams as required. So in hindsight, I'm glad my Win7 computer couldn't play RC sounds - I have a better setup now because of it :)Subs

Special request for v5
After what you and PeteD found, it sounds like it could be done at some point. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it and if there is time.Lol funny you mentioned the snakes - just this morning I found a Eastern Brown under the kitchen table when sitting down for breakfast. Got him out of the house without getting bitten so...all worked out well :)Subs

Special request for v5
I don't think there will be any point in keeping a list going as RC will be picking these up from the afcad bgl files when you do a database rebuild. Unfortunatly, if the afcad bgl names a taxiway "O2" for "Outer 2", that's not something RC would be able to distinguish as "Oscar 2" is also a valid taxiway name. It will all depend on how the afcads are built, and what sort of information can be extracted from them.Subs
