Weather question for Ray

Hello Ray - It's been a while.I use ASV6 also and in another post you mentioned to be sure to load the weather before running RC4.Given the order in which flight plans must be created and submitted to ASV6, do you mean the ASV6 weather has to be refreshed before running RC4 or just the flightplan loaded and processed?Really enjoying RC4 - reminds me of when I was able to do some real flying - also reminds me how rusty I am . >I use ASV6 also and in another post you mentioned to be sure>to load the weather before running RC4.Yes, you want to run the weather before running RC to ensure that the AI are using the most appropriate runway(s) given the prevailing winds.>Given the order in which flight plans must be created and>submitted to ASV6, do you mean the ASV6 weather has to be>refreshed before running RC4 or just the flightplan loaded and>processed?Yes, refresh the weather prior to starting RC4. While the weather is updating, I usually import the flight plan into RC4, set my cruise altitude, etc. Here's the details of what I do:1. Start AS6, download and save the weather.2. Create my flight plan using FSBuild3. Import the flight plan into AS6 and process it.4. REFRESH weather in AS6 to have cloud textures selected5. Start FS, load RC4 (do not start yet - just do the configuring)6. Set aircraft at departure gate.7. REFRESH AS6 to set the current weather in FS8. Set the date/time (resulting in AI refresh)9. Start RC410. Fly!-michael

Hi Vic,I see Michael has replied to your question. I do things slightly different. I have AS6 set to paused when I launch it. I then decide if I'm going to use archived weather or download current conditions. Once the weather is loaded I will then load a flight plan into it.All this is on my non-flying PC of course. FS9 is already loaded by the time AS6 is started. Only when everything is loaded in AS6 will I then start RC4, load the same plan as that loaded into AS6 and then I'm ready to go.I have the option set in AS6 to refresh the Ai after the weather is loaded. I assume you do too.Must be about 8 years since CompuServe closed the doors on the FS Forum. I can remember being really fed up at the time but AvSim is a good place to hang out. Enjoy your flying! :-)Cheers,

Ray (Cheshire, England).

May I add to have consistent weather depiction in FS9 that you should clear wx thru FSUIPC before refreshing ASV(E or 6) ?I normally have this "checklist":1.prepare my flightplan (I fly offline, so I download the archived wx that I need, then use FSBuil to make, export and save flightplans)2.launch ASV, load wx, import and process fp3.load RC, set all the variables but don't launch it4.start FS9, set time, location, airplane and so on5.clear all wx via FSUIPC6.refresh ASV to process wx7.refresh AI thru ASV8.finally launch RCAnd all works flawlessly, wx is consistent all along the route, AI acts (almost) accordingly, RC4 wx is correct and so on.

Thanx Ray (et al) - that's pretty much what I figured and it's the way I've been doing it. Haven't had any real issues with either program so that's a good thing.thanx again and happy flying!VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg

FYI. AS6 has the button to refresh AI which also updates ATIS. You no longer need to adjust time to force an AI refresh.

In FS I have the default flight saved with the Clear Weather theme to when FS starts it issues the call as shown on my FSUIPC.log. In addition I either create a flight with the Clear Weather theme or load a saved flight (parked aircraft) with it. The FSUIPC log shows this works.

>FYI. AS6 has the button to refresh AI which also updates>ATIS. You no longer need to adjust time to force an AI>refresh.>I found the date/time reset to be more reliable. I've had FS9 hang when doing the AI refresh via AS6, which, btw, is implemented as a reset of the time by 2 minutes.-michael

Hi Enrico,<I find that with AS6 the weather is cleared automatically when the program is launched. It would be a pain to have to go into FSUIPC each time and do it manually. The rest of your checklist looks fine. The important thing is that the last thing that is to press 'Start RC'.Cheers,

Hi Ray,didn't yet install the latest ASV6 (downloaded, burned on CD for future reference, but still hadn't time to install it), so I'm not aware of this (very useful) function, but I think that out of habit I'll still go to press that "clear all wx" button in FSUIPC, a very small item added to the (always) long checklists that surely saves some irritation in case you don't get the wx properly set !!!And yes, START RC is the latest thing to do !!Regards

FYI, The FSUIPC "clear weather" has to be done once. It is written to the INI file and remembered. Only have to redo it if you manually change it.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
