Airline That Is In All Controller WAVs and Pilot WAVs ...

Featured Replies

I fly Great Lakes Aviation a lot and this airline has wav files in controllers and pilots but it is not listed under Plane Data/Airline or Company Name. I read other posts that it might be listed differently so I went through the entire list one by one and I did not come across Great Lakes Aviation. Yet the GLA wav files are in all the controller and pilot folders. Was this perhaps an oversight? Or do I need new contacts? I checked old posts and some mentioned to edit the aircraft.dat file. Maybe that was in V3. In my V4 I do not see a file named aircraft.dat in the rcv4 folder. It seems this Great Lakes Aviation matter only needs to be added to the known list of airlines. The WAV files are there. I also checked the manual and could not find any instructions on adding new airlines to the aircraft.dat file. Perhaps V4 is using a different method of aircraft storage. I understand if a new airline needed to be added that it would require new wav files for all controllers and pilots. Since GLA wavs are already in the folders all I need to do is learn what file to edit. Please let me know the name of the file to edit so I can select Great Lakes Aviation as my aircraft. You guys rock! I cannot even imagine the logistics of creating your program. It's the best money spent on any FS9 addon. I appreciate all your hard work bringing V4 to us. Words cannot describe the difference.Mike

OK, here's an update.I was playing around trying to figure where the planes are stored in V4. I discovered they are located in folder rcv4/data under the file name c4.csvI opened that up and did a search for Great Lakes. Turns out Great Lakes is listed under Northaire Freight Lines Ltd. I plugged Northaire into Plane Data/Airline or Company Name and up popped Great Lakes. In the future what is the proper way to add an airline in c4.csv?Like this?GREAT LAKES GREAT LAKES Northaire Freight Lines Ltd - USA 0 0Again, the best addon ever for FS9. Thanks for all your hard work.Mike

3rd updateI discovered that Northaire Freight Lines Ltd "Great Lakes" is not the same as my favorite Great Lakes Aviation Ltd "Lakes Air" The call sign "Great Lakes" will do in the meantime.Maybe Great Lakes Aviation Ltd "Lakes Air" could be added sometime in the future.I know how to chop/edit/paste WAV files so I could make up my own "Lakes Air" from the other pilot/controller voices. If you could tell me the correct way to add Great Lakes Aviation Ltd "Lakes Air" to the list of planes available in c4.csv it would be much appreciated by myself and others.

I was on a flight in a Cessna Conquest. When I started the flight, I saw Conquest and selected it with ny tail number. When I reied it, it said "Conquest Air", so I then just changed it back to "November". But when ATC (RC4) identified my a/c, as traffic, to other a/c, my plane was a "Conquest Air" (for a/c type). I don't know about you, but I never heard of a Conquest Air Aircraft!!Also, different airlines names are SO BUTCHERED, by the various controllers, and each in a different way. Weren't these wavs, sounds proofed? An example is Chautaugua, which is a US AIR and Delta regional. It should be pronounced "Shaw taug wa". I have heard, Cha teeg a, Shot a qua. Another error, I think was Independence Air, being called Independent! If the standard sounds were used, EditVoice could hae fixed all these and most of us could ourselves, or they wouldn't have been a problem to start with. To go away totally from what the rest of the world uses in FS for sound, and then to make it so hard to make corrections to errors, which if proofed correctly, shouldn't have been there to start with. I know these are small issues, but enough small issues have been raised already, for an addon, that is one of the higher priced programs. To me, if the standard sound was used, then probably no time would have to be spent correcting these issues, and more time could be spent on improving the ATC aspect (especially ground ops), and making this product better!Rick

EditVoice Pack is a program that allows easy editing of FS's sound files. Here is a link; www.editvoicepack.comTo use it, you would have to use FS sound files and voices. Personally I never had a problem with FS's sounds. But if anyone has a new VA or a new a/c comes out, a new intersection, etc, it is easily added to FS for the whole world to use. Some upload the new stuff to Editvoice and it is included in the next update. Others might just include the editvoice file in their d/l. New things or changes are made easily once. The way it is now, every pilot, controller, etc, has to re-record the change or addition in their voice, and hope everyone pronounces things correctly. Using FS's sounds.....more a/p names are available, more callsigns are available, etc. And if someone adds a new military callsign, a new VA, you have to do NOTHING, as they will have added it to EditVoice's update. And the best part.....EditVoice is freeware!I don't pretend to know how you wrote the code for RC, but why re-invent the wheel concerning the sound files, when everything is already there. Then, as I said earlier, you can concentrate more on the ATC aspects of your program! As for volunteering.....I don't think so! But my time can be had for compensation of some sort.Rick

Hi Rick,I'm confused. In what sense is everything already there. From my experience editvoicepack does it's best to edit files which already exist within the MS voicepack with varied degrees of success depending on how close the originals are to what you want.RC does not want to work within the limitations of the phrases MS recorded nor to limit ourselves to the range of voicers available within the default voicepack.Others are already wishing we had more regional variation in the voices!I've checked the addons I have (such as Flight Deck Companion, PMDG 737) and they all seem to use custom .wavs. Voxatc uses computer generated voices presumably again so as not to have to work within he limitations of the MS voicepack.Am I missing something here? All the best,John

downloaded and installed. reading through the file, i found this:Creating new PhraseologyThe phraseology modifications allow you to change the sentences spoken by ATC and pilots. Notice that you can only change existing phrases

You could play back the wave files in the GVP file instead of your own. This would give you access to all Microsofts recordings while you still control what is played when (the limitations I mention on the home page of EVP is obviously related to it's use with the default ATC - nothing prevents you from embedding extra identifiers an play them back yourself). The advantage is that you get access to thousands of callsigns and airport names (which is being constantly expanded). The disadvantage is that you are limited to the 10 voices, and it might be hard to get the pronounciation right for some of the phrases.Personally I think you are better of sticking to your own recordings, but then create a program similar to EVP to expand the recordings (either do it yourself, or hope a user will do it). I do not have the time to maintain a RC version of EVP, but if someone tries to make one let me know - I might be able to help with code (or at least algorithms etc).
