January 27, 200620 yr JD,I wanted to do tutorial 4 today. But at 19 miles before VOR SYI I got the dreaded CTD. Just after getting permission to leave the radio freq to get the weather: bingo !As I have the Autosave I restarted FS and RC4 (that worked perfectly just as nothing never happened). But at 19 miles from SYI again bingo.I have upgraded ASV two or threee days ago and this is my first flight after the upgrade. I also replaced several AI repaints before that.I was flying with ASV, RC4, FSNav (before the restart).Do you have any suggestion ? Roger See my specs in my profile
January 27, 200620 yr Author Well I tried it without RC4: same CTD. I tried it without RC4 and ASV:Same CTD. I tried it again after clearing manually the sky: same CTD.Conclusion this is not a RC4 nor an ASV problem.I will now start from scratch and fly a different route but also general direction South. January 27, 200620 yr Author Doug,I have the problem with RC4 and ASv, I have it without RC4, I have it without RC4 and ASV, I have it even with weather manually set to clear sky, and I have it starting from scratch without RC4, ASV, FSNav and flying a general but not identical direction from the same airport.I am now checking with FSGenesis. January 27, 200620 yr CTDs can be caused by multiple afcads for the same airport, regardless of where the airports are located. There is a utility (can't think of the name) that will search for multiple airports and let you delete one or more duplicates. Also, aerosoft installs a DLL that does nothing but provide a weblink - this can also cause CTDs. you can safely remove this DLL fromt he modules folder. On my system Moving Map resulted in CTDs until I removed it.
January 27, 200620 yr The ulility is ScanAFD available on this website and I run it every couple of weeks as a precaution. You also might want to try switching on Render to texture in FS9 in case you picked up a DXT3 texture somewhere along the line.
January 27, 200620 yr Moderator Roger,Would you mind providing your flight plan so I can try it. I haven't had a CTD in ages so it will be interesting to see if I can generate it.I also have AS6. Do you have Air Traffic Control switched off under Options / Settings /Sound? I have it enabled but with the slider set to zero. Having that option de-selected can be responsible for ATC.DLL crashes. What DLL was identified as the problem?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 27, 200620 yr Moderator Roger,No need for the plan. I failed to notice it's one of the tutorials. Only 3 waypoints so a nice simple one. I'll try it over the weekend and report back on my findings.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 28, 200620 yr Author Rendeer to texture is always switched on. I aill load the AfcadScan. I also loaded a utility that traces the files. I never used it but now it is time. I will see what that gives.I will be back with more info (and mo questions ?) Roger See my specs in my profile
January 28, 200620 yr Author Ray,Do not search. I found when if not why I get this CTD.I have used MaxiVista for 2 years without any problem. (MaxiVista is a soft that lets me use the laptop as a secondary screen)Today I have started FS9 and restored to the last checkpoint. No problem. Then restarting always at that checkpoint, I started RC4. No Problem.Again restart FS9, RC4 And ASV.No problem. Then I restarted again but also starting MaxiVista: PROBLEM !Restart without MaxiVista: O.K.Restart with MaxiVista: problem.Restart again without MaxiVista: O.K.The FilmonNt file tracking showed a last open PAI file. The second failed test shows another PAI file.In many many flights with MaxiVista this is the first tie I have the problem.I don't think that it is worthwhile trying to solve it unless this becomes a habit. January 28, 200620 yr Moderator Hi Roger,Thanks for letting us know what the problem is. At least you have a work-around. I'm not familiar with MaxVista but perhaps you should report this problem to them.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
