January 30, 200719 yr For those of you who are unfamiliar with Honolulu, RWY 22L/R point straight at the Ko'olau Mountains making it a bad choice for landing anything bigger than a B717. Even then it's a risky approach because you have the airport vaiaduct about 500ft from the threshold and have to fly over a bunch of tall buildings then turn about a half a mile out to line up. Okay, it's a bad runway to land on. Anyway, in the AFCAD, I closed that runway for landing a while back so I wouldn't have to deal with it in my B744. In fact it was well before I got RC. Aside from requesting a different runway, is there anyway to prevent RWY 22 from being used for landing?Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg Ryan Gamurot
January 30, 200719 yr Commercial Member there will be in v5.but if the ai are landing/taking off on that runway, i'm following their lead :-)you can also request a specific runway on the controllers page before you start your flightjd JD Read my blog
January 30, 200719 yr As JD states, if AI are present, RC follows their lead.Due to workings of FS9 in order to close a runway to AI, both ends must be closed (have equal properties) as documented on a few forums. In this case you would have to close 22/4.I took a brief look at not recent plates and not complete and it does look like east facing runways are preferred. There is an offset approach from the SE to one of the 26s.I have to download the recent sets this evening to look at it.
January 30, 200719 yr Addendum:You can also request also a different runway when you are in the approach menu but you may be in conflict with AI. You can also request an IAP to follow published approaches with your own navigation.AI do not make the best choices :)

You can download them all if you wish in one .pdf. They are not too encouraging. If you want to prevent AI from using 22L/R, you'll have to close both ends in AFCAD. 8R/26L in RNAV approach appears to be the only one open for landing on both ends. The pair of 8/26 runways are about 12,000 feet long and wide. 26 R is not published unless it is a side-step.So I'd close for landings and takeoff both ends of the 4/22s and forget them. I'd leave all open on the 8/26s. Rebuild your RC database _after_ you've made these changes and allowed FS9 to reindex your scenery data base.Be prepared to select a different runway and possibly choose an IAP. At least this way while maybe not using the same parallel runway, you should at least be landing or taking off in the same direction as AI but with FS9 AI it sometimes is hard to tell.
