February 9, 200719 yr Have been having a problem when flying into KLGA. Using the MIP3 STAR, I am left by ATC @ 11000 ft. when I need to be @ 5000ft (or less). After being cleared to 11000ft, I select the "request lower" option, but all I get is a screen with the options for other screens. If I click those I get a screen, numbered one to five down the left side but no options with the numbers. I selected the "request higher" option and there were higher altitude options. When I am given lower, I am cleared from 11000 down to 2000 and have to do a dive to try to arrive at the approach track at a reasonable altitude (and speed). Not sure if this is a problem with my setup, or I am doing something wrong? Did some digging in this forum and have learned the RC does not recognize altitude constraints in STARS (correct?). If this is the case, is there a way to correct this so I am not missing this approach due to being to high and to fast? Thanks for any help.Regards,Joe Regards, Joe Esposito
February 9, 200719 yr Commercial Member you would want to enter approach at 11000, contact approach, he's going to tell you what to expectyou request an iap approach, matching your star, and you're on your own. no vectors, not descentsthen you contact tower when you are 7 miles outjd JD Read my blog
February 9, 200719 yr If you do not want to follow a STAR in its entirety and not select an IAP but still take vectors you can fly under the arrival NOTAMS option which will let you depart from the ATC restrictions without ATC complaint. You can therefore descend below the instructed altitude under your own risk. For the NY airports about forty miles out you should be at 11,000 and down to 7,000 at twenty miles out as I recall. You can see actual KLGA approaches at:http://www.passur.com/sites.htmselecting the airport of interest. Click the range further out to about forty miles. Click on one of the blue aircraft to follow its altitude progress to give you a sense of what it should be.For about a twenty mile range you can look at KLGA at www.flightaware.com.Both sites are real-time less about ten minutes due to security restrictions.
February 9, 200719 yr Author Thanks for the input. Cannot seem to get the http://www.passur.com/sites.htm link to work. Would really like to see that in action. Followed the the link to the KLGA site and clicked on the "passur" link but evrything is dead. Anyway, thanks for the help.Regards,Joe Regards, Joe Esposito
February 10, 200719 yr If you are using IE for your browser it should work OK. You need Javascript allowed for it to work. If you use Firefolx download the javascript plug in.Once you go to an airport site it takes a while to start up.I just checked my quoted link and it did take me to the site index with links to airports.Perhaps you need to adjust your firewall.
