December 16, 200718 yr I planned to fly out of EGKK to KJFK.I got clearance from RC and ground told me to use rwy 8R.Weather was easterly winds at 4kts. So makes sense to use an east facing rwy. However , to save time, I requested rwy 26L.When I lined up at 26L, I could see four aircraft at the taxiway at the other end (8R)waiting for tower's instrucrions. These are UT generated a/cs. Also straight ahead, abou 3nm, was a B737 on final. With al this ground and air traffic, tower cleared me for takeoof. I did that, and noticed the 737 executed a missed approach so as not to hit me!Question is- Does Rc assign takeoff runways as easy as that, just by my sudden request?Shouldn't RC refuse me the alt rwy, given all the adjacent traffic?Eytan Ornstein
December 16, 200718 yr Commercial Member runways primarily assigned by what the ai are doing.if no ai, then i take the wind into account. 4kts is calm, so any runway will workif you request a runway, i assume you know what you are doing, and will give it to you. at your own peril.jd JD Read my blog
December 16, 200718 yr Author I took that runway at my own peril alright.next time I'll do what the other planes are doing- get in line!Eytan
December 16, 200718 yr If you wish to reduce the length of the take-off queue try AISmooth. It is freeware that allows you to specify the spacing of aircraft on approach so you can allow AI to take off more frequently reducing the queue. If you use it turn respond to user aircraft off. You can get it for FS9 or FSX here:http://www.sg-flightware.de/For FS9 you can use FS9Configurator by Ken Salter, freeware here in the libs. You can increase AI taxi-speed but just do it a little bit. AI aircraft can exit the runway clearing it faster.
