Problems at LOWS

Featured Replies

Hi guys, this is the first time posting on this forum.I have just found this marvelous product after years of being frustrated by Microsoft ATC (unfortunately I am and ATCO in real life and get frustrated easily;-))I just have one quick question. When flying into LOWS (my favourite destination) I get vectored for the runway 16 approach and always seem to end up on a 10 mile final at 8000ft (Aerodrome level is 1400ft). Although I am sometimes game and try to sideslip my MD83 in, it often ends up in carnage.I suppose one way around is to ask for the full IAP each time, but sometimes I am lazy and just prefer vectors. Is there any way to change the database for LOWS to allow for the 4000ft intercept as in real life (and as in Microsoft ATC). In fact Microsoft seem to have a good data base with correct intercept altitudes for most airports in Europe. Is there no way of tapping into this? Thanks again for the great product.Neil

you can try changing the msa of lows, that would get you a little lowerjd

A source for information on LOWS is here:http://www.vacc-sag.org/?PAGE=airport_infoThere is high terrain surrounding LOWS and approach is through low terrain enabled corridors. RC averages the MSA around the whole airport area and probably has an MSA of 8000 on the Controller page for LOWS. You can modify that for each session to a lower value but RC in flight will not detect a small area terrain height corridor and probably vector you into high terrain.Your best bet is to listen to what runway is assigned when approach contacts you and after you ack request the IAP. You can get SIDS, STARS, and IAPs from the link above to do your own navigation.See my reply to the Approach Difficulties thread for European chart links.
