time to wait for clearance delivery?

Featured Replies

Hello, i am a new radar contact user, using 4.3, FSXsp1, winxpsp2. I am just starting small with trying to set up a few simple flights around local airports with the twin otter. sometimes when i ask for clearance delivery, i get it right away. but other times, they tell me it is available on request.if i respond my voice says standing by and the options on the radar contact window go away.what is a reasonable time to expect getting a response back? i looked around on the forums and internet and it seems that there is likely to be a delay in this case, but i waited over 15 minutes and still never heard back. is there a way to configure the maximum waiting time? or am i doing something wrong such that they won't give me clearance? i have loaded a flight plan in rc app and so forth.other times when i get clearance right away things seem to work as expected, so i just restart RC until i get clearance, but i'm curious about the correct approach here.thanks for any tips, andy crosby

that is a random happening, to simulate real world.i think 90 seconds would be the most you should have to waitjd

Hi Andy,15 minitues is waaay too long, so there is something wrong. When the controller tells you delivery is available on request, you should see and select an 'Acknowledge' item. After selecting Acknowledge [acknowledge that you are waiting], then RC should come back and give you your airways clearance shortly - like jd said, max 90secs, but nowhere near 15 minutes.See if you can fiddle with acknowledging at that point, and all the rest should flow along nicely.Let us know how you go,Subs

hello, thanks for the help. thanks to your suggestions, i figured out what i was doing wrong - the controller would say on request, but it takes a minute for my menu to change to having an acknowledge command. i was hitting "1-(airport frequency etc)" again as an option thinking that was what i had to do to respond back, and my guy would say 'standing by' and i guess basically cancelling out of the expected behavior completely so the atc guys were done with me.since trying a few flights now, i think i am starting to get the hang of things, i noticed that it usually takes a really long time to get an acknowledge option, is that normal? like the atc will send me to another frequency and controller, but then it takes 30 seconds or more before i can acknowledge it and change/contact etc. my system isn't really taxed in these cases, i am running around 45+ fps with this plane, so i don't know if it's something like radar contact or fsuipc not being able to update very quickly due to lack of cpu juice or not running on a separate computer or something..? or is this similar to trying to simulate how long normally you would delay in answering an instruction like that? with the default atc i usually try to acknowledge such changes immediately if i can, but i don't know if that's realistic either..anyway i will be digging more into the manual and tutorials this weekend so it's quite possible i'm doing everything wrong, i'm still just learning the ropes but so far it's really a fun mod.. i love how when i was screwing up my assigned direct-to-vor course while fiddling with my autopilot on gps the guys started sounding pretty upset.."i hope you don't drive like this!!!" hehe.. i don't, honest!! just a noob who hasn't read the whole manual quite yet :)cheers,-andy crosby

hello, after a few more flights and poking around the forums, i think maybe part of my confusion is from seeing similar problems as reported in this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=28010&page=2now that i know where an acknowledge is expected i will just wait a long time for it (i was messing up by hitting a key long before the acknowledge options was available.)... but it seems a little strange, like sometimes when i get takeoff clearance, i am sitting on the runway for 60+ seconds until i can acknowledge it.. also with landing clear, and some controller transitions. other times it works pretty quickly like on a barometer update... i don't know if there is a pattern exactly, but i am experimenting more, i wonder maybe if it has to do with traffic settings or something else funky (i am mostly using around 15-20% ga and airline traffic.) in particular the landing clearance is scary because i'm a lot of times getting to ack it when i am very close or on the runway, i'm wondering if there is a factor like decision height that i don't understand or something..anyway, i have a log file from a flight i just finished that showed examples of this stuff and will send to jd's email as listed in the sticky about logs. cheers-, andy crosby
