    Microsoft Announces MSFS 2024

    Bob Scott

Microsoft has announced the upcoming release of a new simulator platform, MSFS 2024, coming at an as-yet undetermined date in 2024.  A video trailer showing a preview of the new simulator platform's features is available on their website.

Everyone is invited to join us in the forums in the already energetic debate over what that might mean for the flight simming community.

IMHO: MS/Asobo needs to completely fix the many issues we have experienced with MSFS before they try to con us into buying another which will likely be just as rife with issues as MSFS.

How close would this be to "completely fix the many issues"?  What if MS/A released 2024 with essentially this change list:

    1. All fundamental METAR/Weather integration issues solved, including having default ATC direct one to the current METAR based runway choices, corroborated w/ RW traffic.  Cloud impacts on flight dynamics included as well, of course.
    2. Expanding the range of voxel resolution such that folks with the hardware could access a broad range of distinct cloud morphologies thru a slider (which I maintain depend largely on increasing voxel resolution bigtime).  This may well be in the cards if the statements about massive performance improvements come to pass.
    3. ATC was improved to include AI generated regional voicings complete with regional ATC nuances (an appropriate task for AI/machine learning); and all basic ATC functions worked as well as 3rd party options might.
    4. Geolocation driven seasonal vegetation change implementation
    5. Default airports were upgraded to reflect accurate taxiway and gate labels and types, etc
    6. Server support kept ahead of demand at all times
