  1. Mike, What makes the second image so much clearer than the first image? Is it DX9, or is it one of the setup changes that you made? What I am referring to is how much sharper and detailed the highway interchange is on the second image (the interchange on the left side of the image, midway between the bottom of the image and the horizon). Thanks,Robert
  2. Doug, Excellent! Thanks so much for your quick response, it was exactly the type of advice that I was looking for. I tell you, these AVSIM forums and the folks who frequent them are a wonderful resource. Thanks again,Robert
  3. I need some advice on replacing the graphics card in my FS2002 PC. I am replacing a GeForce2 GTS with an Asus GeForce4 Ti4200 on a Windows 98SE system, and I am wondering:Should I switch Windows to its VGA video driver before shutting down to replace the card?Should I install the new video drivers when Windows starts and recognizes that there is new hardware, or should I bypass the startup screen and install the video drivers after Windows has loaded? Can I continue to use DirectX 8.1, and do I need to reinstall it?Should I install the Asus video drivers, or install drivers from the nVidia Web site? Are there any fs2002 configuration changes or video driver property changes that I need to be aware of? I will appreciate any advice from those of you who have already done this type of video card swap. Thanks,Robert Rent
  4. I often swap radios and gauges between aircraft. I have done this many times in the past by simply editing an aircraft's panel.cfg file and replacing the name of a radio or a gauge with that of another. I recently tried to replace the radios in the Mooney Bravo, though, and I was unable to do so.The situation is this:I purchased the DreamFleet C177 Cardinal (absolutely fantastic aircraft, by the way) and I liked its radios so much that I decided to swap them into the Mooney Bravo. So... I edited the Mooney Bravo's panel.cfg file and replaced the line: gauge01=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 0, 29with the line: gauge01=DF177EC!KING_KX175B_NAVCOM_1, 0, 29Not a good idea! - When I load the Mooney Bravo with the changed panel.cfg file, FS2002 halts with a message box stating: "Microsoft Flight Simulator has encountered a problem, and needs to close. ...send a report to Microsoft... etc."As a test, I tried to swap radios between two of DreamFleet aircraft - the Archer II and the C177 Cardinal, and that too caused FS2002 to crash. I asked about this in the DreamFleet forum but I have not as yet received an informative answer. Can any of you Avsim panel experts tell me what might be causing the FS2002 crash, and provide me with ideas as to how I might work around it?Thanks in advance for you thoughts,Robert Rent
  5. The Dream Fleet Piper Archer is so fantastic that I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Dream Fleet Cardinal. Any comments from you beta testers?http://www.dreamfleet2000.comRobert Rent
  6. Thanks to all who responded, this is indeed a helpful community.Based upon your advice, my decision is.... both!Per Trip's suggestion - I will install both Windows 98 SE and Windows XP Pro (in separate partitions), and dual-boot between the two. This is such an elegant solution - allowing me to try both operating systems and to decide for myself which of the two works best on my hardware. I will report my findings. Thanks to you fourm dwellers for your posts,Robert Rent
  7. I am building a new PC, and I would appreciate any advice as which operating system will provide the better FS2002 experience - Win98SE or Win XP Pro (or, whether or not the operating system even matters). The basic hardware is: Pentium 4 2.26ghz, I845e chipset, 533mhz FSB, 512mb DDR266, GeForce4 Ti4400.Thanks,Robert
