I thought I would try to flatten the water around T. Kwong's VHHH. The airport is really nice, but sits on a large rectangle, so you get a 19' wall of water around large parts of the airport - very visible as you approach from the west. I am assuming that this is not just my setup? I have had the scenery for a long time, so don't remember how I installed it, but I am pretty sure I did it according to the instructions. If others don't have this wall of water, please let me know! I have the flatten line in the scenery.cfg file - though if I remove it, I don't see any difference! I tried creating a flatten with FST flatten - I think this still works in Windows 7 - though not 100% sure?? I get a bgl file OK but even if I put it in a folder at the top of my scenery library it has no effect, with or without the flatten line in the scenery.cfg file. The walls of seawater remain. I tried ADE9x, but once I get the polygon and compile the airport, I get one bgl file - but I thought that I should get two, one called VHHH_ADE9.bgl and a flatten file, but no flatten. Is it possible to create flattens in FS9 with ADE9x? Maybe that only works in FSX (as far as I can see towards the end of the pdf manual). Any other ideas as to how I could flatten the water around the airport edges? I have done this successfully at other airports, following the shorelines to create a flatten bgl. But I can't seem to make any difference to VHHH at all, even if I just create a simple rectangular flatten in the water (which is a t 19') using FSTFlatten.. nothing. Thanks, Martin

The FSUIPC option isn't checked. I haven't found a suitable gauge to replace the ND, with the vertical display at the bottom. If anyone knows of one I can test, that'd be great. Thanks. M.

Yes, I have registered FSUIPC so I'll check that - am also downloading a380 panels to investigate a possible replacement (I like the a380 panel I have, so am only looking to replace the ND); will have a look at the Citation X too (I have a payware version in fact, but not sure which it is as I write this) - and post back any progress of course. Thanks for the help.

It did start out 'off' until yesterday, so not sure why it stopped behaving. I'll see if I can find a different ND, but this one is for the a380 in that it has the vertical display, albeit in simple form. May not be easy to find another - I'll browse for a380 panels - the two others I have 'archived' are rubbish.. Thank you, Martin

No, it isn't saved as a flight - this is how the panels now load when I select the aircraft in the FS9 menu - even if I start with the c172. (It's now back to just the ND lit up BTW!). As I said though until today it was just fine, the ND stayed dark with this panel until I turned on the batteries. Thanks

UPDATE: Now all the flight instruments are lit - not just the ND. I changed nothing meanwhile!! Anyone who says this stuff doesn't have a mind of its own - and is SPITEFUL - doesn't understand computers!!! M.

I spent ages setting this up, and it all worked really well - until it came to the time for take-off. I had my flightplan imported and all the FMC screens looked as they should be (I use PMDG 747 FMC a lot so think I know how to set things up - but I did run through the vasFMC docs too). As I began the take-off roll, always disaster: the FD would come on itself and the altitude selector switch itself to zero: nothing would get it to go back to my target altitude. I'd change the dial, turn off FD, turn off A/P, but the altitude selector would instantly go back to 00000. The v/s selector would then go to a negative figure of course and the a/c fall from the skies. In the FMC the target altitudes at each waypoint looked OK... So after hours of experimenting, I uninstalled the software. Now at least I can fly (I was trying vasFMC in the PA a380). Any ideas why this happened every 'flight'? I could give it another try if anyone can see what I was doing wrong! Martin

This panel worked fine, all flight instruments dark until I turned on the battery. Now the ND stays on even when the battery is off. Any idea why anybody? I back up regularly so tried going back to a panel when it was working, but no change. I reinstalled the a/c afresh (PA a380). But the ND display won't go out. I tried adding this - [electrical] electric_always_available = 0 but still the ND is permanently lit. A small annoyance - but an annoyance even so, especially as it was OK before this afternoon. The only thing I have done is uninstall vasFMC (I couldn't get it to work - the altitude & V/S selectors always switched to zero as I began a take-off roll, but that's a different story!). The ND was dark before I installed vasFMC and whilst I had it installed too. But as I say, I have tried installing the a/c and panel afresh but the ND is n ow stuck 'on'. If anyone can help turn the **** thing off.... ! Thanks, Martin

OK, after experimenting, I have managed to get the FMC working in other aircraft now. First of course you need to make a window for it in the panel.cfg file, something like this: [Window06]//MCDU Size_mm=377,600 visible=1 position=8 ident=GPS_PANEL gauge00=vasfmcgau!mcdu,0,0,377,600 That gets the fmc into the cockpit (adding the title window too of course at the top!). To get the gauge operative, I added this line to the end of [Window00], using next available gauge number for XX: gaugeXX=vasfmcgau!nd,0,0,1,1, builtin id10002 a_style I changed the dimensions and placement as this entry produces a duplicate Navigational Display gauge. 0,0,1,1 makes it invisible. Without this gauge in the panel.cfg file, the fmc does not switch on. By the way, you don't need to add the four vasFMC folders _acs, _lgip, _rmp & _sys to the panel folder... All you need then is an icon shortcut in the cockpit to open and close the FMC - easy enough with an xml script. (The toggle supplied with vasFMC didn't want to work, so I just created a new one). I am not sure yet about the operation of this FMC and whether simply installing it into an existing panel.cfg is going to work (this is my first day using it), but maybe the above will help someone at least to get the gauge operating in the cockpit. Hi, I only discovered this FMC today, but having downloaded the NavData, I got it installed into my PA a380 cockpit with no problem. So I thought that I would try it in some other Airbuses - the CLS a330-200 to start with. I wonder if I am making a stupid error somewhere; the FMC shows, but it's switched off and I can't get it to light up. I have added the same panel entry as I made in the a380 panel.cfg: [Window06] size_mm=377,600 visible=1 ident=10014 window_pos=8 gauge00=vasfmcgau!mcdu, 0,0,377,600 and I have copied the four vasFMC folders _acs, _lgip, _rmp & _sys into the CLS panel folder. But the CDU is dark. I tried with the SGA a300: same result. I have Googled this for almost an hour - and it seems if I have read things right that people are saying (in passing) that they have vasFMC in their CLS airbus, so surely it should be working OK. Others seem to have the same problem. I installed vasFMC and then spent the afternoon adapting my previous 2D panel to fit the PA aircraft. Now it is really very nice indeed - with VC and all. I have deleted all my other a380s, which now pale in comparison to the PA+vasFMC, downloaded all liveries currently flying and am ready to go. I shall be flying a380s for a while now! I had not heard of vasFMC before, so thanks for the heads up - I just have to find a manual and learn how to use it (I know the PMDG 747 CDU pretty well, plus several others, so I am hoping it will be a relatively straight forward learning curve). Hi.Thanks - I always assumed that a CoG showing on the propeller image in FS9 meant problems - but I am sure you are right, that is not necessarily so. I didn't change any of the CoG data in the a/c, just the stations list, and the plane flies just fine. I could try with the original, just as an experiment though. Martin

I discovered that I have a panel backed up with the vertical display (it is on the Navigational Display on the main flight instruments)! That's from a real-world panel, not FS9 (sadly!!). I found a file called 3rd.party.zip for VasFMC.. but I can't see that that is the correct file - the links which might have helped me install this are dead so I have no idea what to do to install this in my a/c. Any idea where I download the software? There are tutorials on Youtube showing how to use it, but I am not sure if I have the right files yet to install it: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vasfmc/files/ If that is the file I need, then what to do with the various libraries etc?? I am used to using an FMC in PSS/PMDG etc., so if it isn't so different, once I get it installed then I should be OK.. Thanks

Does anyone know if there is an a380 panel available which includes the Vertical Display on the ND? Even if it doesn't work fully, just showing the a/c ascent path (I'm not expecting a working weather display!). Martin

Ooops - more haste, less speed; sorry, it's not the PA version, it is the one downloaded with the file a388abus.zip in the AVSIM library!! I notice in the Fuel & payload settings that the CoG is right on the nose, no matter how I change the fuel balance. There is only one load entry, but changing that doesn't help either. I haven't actually tried flying the aircraft yet, so don't know if it going to have problems because of this - I can't see any other comments about this here, or when I Googled either, but does anyone else who has this aircraft see the same thing? There are 26 files, if I counted correctly, under Fs2004 Miscellaneous Files, archives of what was on the former PSS site: search for 'PHOENIX SOFTWARE and Users', but I am sure most who come to this forum will know about the files. Can only assume, though the sequence was supposed to show a Qantas A380 landing, it's archive film they used - and got things very wrong!

Watching episode one of the UK Channel 4 documentary series "Terror in the Skies", I was amazed to see (about 15 minutes in) a L1101 sporting the TWA logo (and lit up). This was as an A380 was landing, so it's not old film, unless the film company goofed somehow.. Any idea what this can be? Martin

Did you uncheck the box in the options that says "Enable Clutch Mode"? No, I didn't: I'd forgotten all about that option over the years to be honest! Unchecked it and it seems to be working OK now. Thanks!

As you say, the script is for some reason starting off in the 'wrong' folder: placing the vbs file in the FS9 main folder (where the makerwys.exe file is) solves the problem.

Yes, indeed. I say 'have a good Christmas' and 'thanks for the input' and he replies to me like that.
