1. Thanks--watching video now--as well as Froogle--and waiting for the AOA Training series
2. Just did a proper CDU and FMC setup for a long flight--worked great---will watch the entire tutorial in the AM
3. Thanks for all the great replies ---this will help me sort things out for sure
4. I will give this all a try--thanks for the quick response---I was also having some issues getting the V Speeds entered correctly---I do not know what The SEL entry is for/about--does that help the CDU calculate the V Speeds?
5. Hi All, I am having this problem---what am I doing wrong---I am trying to fly a long flight OMDB to KDFW---I build a plan in PFPX and the get it imported into the T7 no problem but when I get to per init page and try to punch in the Gross weight of about 717.xxx I get an unable message---I chose the weight from the CDU as Long range amount--and copied the fuel GW from the FSX fuel/payload amount shown from the fsx menu

7. Hi everybody, Thanks so much for the responses to my questions concerning engine failure after takeoff in the beautiful mid-Atlantic air Museum DC-3. You’re correct in your assumption that I am flying the DC-3. I am changing up the way I fly in my virtual airline and have decided to go back and fly routes that I flew in real life in the mid-1970s. I was a high school teacher living in Honolulu then, and although I had learned to flight a very young age due to the encouragement and incredible teaching abilities of my godmother who had been a Women’s Army Service Pilot during World War II, it was there in Hawaii and the mid-1970s that I bought an airplane and really learn to fly it. I think back to those days, I shudder at some of the questionable choices we used to make----but we were young and bold and I don’t think really understood the dangers involved in flying around over large stretches of water at night in whether with funky IFR instrumentation in the aircraft. I am lucky to have survived it all, some of my good friends were not quite so fortunate. Anyway--- I thank you for the information and will read the manuals cover to cover--- I somehow feel that I am over taxing the engine string climb--- maybe too much power not enough cow flaps etc. I will read, experiment, and if I continue to have problems will come back to the forum. I do have one other issue that I would like someone to help me with, and that is the fact that my virtual cockpit is missing the altimeters both for the pilot and copilot--- there is a post in the forum about this issue but I can’t quite understand--- there are instructions in the post to change a line in the configuration file but I can’t tell if that’s the flight simulator X config file or some config file that can be found within the MAAM files--- I am not a computer expert by any means and any simple instructions on rectifying this problem would be greatly appreciated. Again thanks for the responses--- cheers and good luck-- as an ending note to other flight Sim enthusiasts who might be getting long in the tooth and have given up real life flying--- dusting off your old steam gauge IFR equipment and skills and going back setting up some bad weather in flying routes that you flew as a younger pilot has an almost visceral thrill to it. Yesterday I made a cool approach to the Kahului runway 02 at night and in bad weather--- flying right down between the West Maui Mountains on the left and Haleakala on the right--- maintaining minimums to fly over the sugar mill (using the brand-new mega scenery earth 2.0 Hawaiian scenery)--- I have done this flight the same way in real life--- all I can say is that this was a pretty cool reenactment-- lots of fun and brought back lots of great memories--- going out with my friends after doing something like this and drinking beers and talking about how we did everything was great at the time and the memories of doing it today bring back lingering almost olfactory memories of those occasions. Cheers Dorn Cranert
8. Hi All, My engines quit about 3 to 5 min after takeoff---I am new to this aircraft in FSX---I bought a number of copies over the years but never really learned the aircraft--where, for instance is the manual or some tutorials---going to learn the airplane and use in in my virtual airline Historical section---I want to fly for Aloha and Hawaiian---someplace I flew extensively in real life back in the 1970's
9. Ok Everybody--- I loaded only the mega 2.0 states that I needed on the flight KSFOKORD--I made it with no issues in the T7 The Problem was loading up all thge Mega 2.0 states at one time Thanks for all the help Dorn
10. Okay everybody here’s the latest. I’m posting this on all the forms were asked my question so that everybody can see it. After reading everything that everyone posted it appeared that scenery may have been the issue. I am presently flying United Airlines flight 664 a Boeing 777 from San Francisco California to Chicago O’Hare. I plan this flight using professional flight planner X and with the mega scenery 2.0 states of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois in the Chicago area. I have been able to take off using the control data unit in the FMC and utilizing radar contact for my ATC. I have stopped the program for moment to write this note but it present I have been able to climb to my eastbound flight altitude of 33,000 feet and then passing over the center part of the Sierras about 50 miles or so south of Lake Tahoe. I have disabled all my other mega 2.0 scenery as well as scenery in Europe and Asia we will see if this aircraft gets to Chicago without incident I will check back with more information later.

12. This is a quick note to everybody following this thread as well as threads that are posted on other forums. I apologize to everybody if I posted this on too many forums, but the truth of the matter is that by doing this I have been able to gather tremendous amount of information. If I just posted on the 777 forum I would be talking to a limited audience, by posting also into the PMDG general forum, as well as my virtual airline forum, and finally by the Microsoft FS X forum I’ve been able to reach a very diversified type of audience concerning my issues. I have been working on my Sim pretty much nonstop for two months in anticipation of the release of the new Boeing 777. I’m an old guy, a retired pilot, and restaurant owner----I don’t fly anymore in real life with the exception of some students that I mentor and occasional flight for fun where I take an instructor along for a ride as a safety precaution against the physical variances of middle-age. I worked hard to solve this problem by simply reading prior to posting any of this on the forums. When I did begin to post on the forums I asked very simple questions about out of memory problems and got no response. I learned nothing and no one seemed to care much one way or the other. Since I have posted on all of these forums and explain myself in a more thorough manner the forms have lit up with information, perspectives, speculative ideas, and general Goodfellow attempts at helping me solve the problem. I think that other simmers have been able to learn from all the comments that have been posted, I certainly have learned more about VAS and the memory realities of this wonderful older 32-bit program. I apologize to people who think I’ve posted on too many forms but the proof is in the pudding much great information is now forthcoming. I doubt there are very many people who read this group of threads who knew that Windows 8 is not supported for the 777. I wish I never bought Windows 8 but now that I have I’m afraid that if I reinstall Windows 7 I will further screw up my flight simulator. This is a question to be tackled later. I am happy with the responses thus far----and I will continue to pursue my questions about memory, FSX, and The Precision Manuals Design Group Boeing 777.
13. Thanks Bob,

I just spent the last month and a half buying and installing the entire Mega Scenery Earth 2.0 Library--this is the most realistic scenery that I have ever used in over twenty years of Simulator flying---I flew a Citation Jet from Salt lake city to The San Francisco Bay Area (a flight that I have done in real life a number of times and the hair stood up on my arms during the Westward climb out ( it was so real--not perfect buy very very immersive)---I do not really understand Flight Sims Scenery very well--- and it was not until last night that I began to worry that the VAS was being affected by all the 1 Terra of scenery (kept on a separate disk)that I had installed. This conversation has educated me a great deal on the realities of the very real memory limitations of FSX.I did not realize that an advantage in VAS could be gained by disabling Scenery prior to a flight---in the past (20 plus years) I just loaded in my scenery as I bought it and then went flying----it is time form more experimenting!
14. Hi Ryan I just read the introduction in the Manual--it was great---so PMDG like in it's scope---I was really excited about getting to the bottom of my issues untill I read the part about no information for win 8 users due to the lack of interest in the OS by the public---I do not like my win 8 but dont know if I can go back to win 7 without screwing up my FSX (and add-ons)
15. I read the introduction---the team decided not to provide information for win 8 users
16. You are right I should have posted to only one forum---But--- and it is a big but---I have posted this question in a less verbose manner during the past week and have had no responses---I did read the introducton part of the manual---and it is really informative---but once again--the developers clearly state that they provide no information for win 8 users since the os was so badly recieved by the public--so no joy for the win 8 users here---I will need to go back to win 7 or wait for 8.1 which is not looking so bright at present. My sim is running alright without the 777---so I think I will just do an uninstall for the time being
17. Hi JFV Where might one find the introduction manual---I have thousands of dollars’ worth of Hard bound PMDG Manuals around and read them all the time--I see no mention of any memory issues in the release notes or any other written material that arrived with my download---are they in some PMDG folder installed during the PMDG 77 Installation into the FSX?
18. Hi Vonmar---I can not answer most of these questions because I am not verycomputer savy---I am running win 8 64 bit--I have an intel I7 processor--my computer was built by my computer store owner/friend---this is an OOM problem I think but can not find the .bootini file in win 8 so I can modify the vas Cheers Dorn
19. Hi everybody, Okay so here’s the deal, I’m going to post this question in a number of different forums because I have become so frustrated with the problem that I want to get a broad range of feedback from different sources and different people who may know something about this issue. What is the issue? Well the issue is the memory problems that I have encountered since the installation of the new PMDG 777 aircraft. I have had memory issues in the past with the 737 and GX but for the most part with a little tweaking and memory fix tweaks that I have found on various forums I have been able to manage pretty well. The new 777 is a totally different Cat! I’ve been working on my Sim for a long time to get it ready for the issue of the 777 into the most part my Sim seems to be running very very well. However, once I installed the 777 I began have memory issues all over the place even when I wasn’t flying that particular aircraft. The main issue was liveried textures not installing correctly by this I mean that the aircraft would be missing parts when it was flying for instance the engine might be missing scowling or part of the fuselage might be missing or when I was sitting in the cockpit there might be areas of the firewall missing so that you can see straight out into open space I am by no means a computer expert----I’m just a pilot who likes to also fly flight simulators in his spare time. I have a good computer with a very fast processor and 12 GB of memory--- the only thing I really skimped on when I built this computer (which by the way I built solely for the purpose of flight swimming) was the total amount of memory. I bought $1000 processor and the best video card I can get at the time which still seems to be high-end acceptable if not the very best on the market. I did not add huge huge amounts of memory to to the fact that I was led to believe from what I could glean from the various flights emporiums that I read that the flight simulator program itself is only able to access a limited amount of memory. My computer guru, when asked about this problem said,(although he is by no means a flight simulator aficionado) that he felt that memory was a big deal because of all the scenery that needed to be crunched)--- so I don’t know if 12 GB of memory is way low or average or way high --- the documentation that accompanies the programs that I run certainly don’t request more than this amount of memory. I have many nice third-party add-on programs which I run with my flight Sim program such as mega scenery 2.0 and Orbix scenery, and professional flight planner ask and radar contact and Rex and all the cool PMDG aircraft. So here it is once again----if I’m flying aircraft other than the 777 then I will usually, but not always have some sort of texture issues on the aircraft itself--- I Sagan this is not always the issue lifelong flights from San Francisco to Chicago in the 737 NGX and experienced absolutely no trouble at all. However, when I load up the 777 I will run out of memory before I can program FMC in the control data unit. I will certainly appreciate any thoughts, ideas, possible fixes, absolutely guaranteed fixes--- general thoughts on the amount of memory that a flight Sim pilot should maintain on board his rig--- and of course will warmly receive any commiserations from other flight simulator pilots about the general state of memory issues in relationship to flying the new PMDG Boeing 777. Thanks for reading this long post and I look forward to getting any and all information that the flight Sim community might be able to provide. I’m going to post this on the PMDG forum, on the Avsim FSX general form, I’m going to post it on my flying Tigers virtual airline forum where there are some really savvy long time flight simmers. So if anybody wants to follow this thread to see if there are solutions to the memory issues that I am experiencing these are the places that you might find flight Sim community responses. Cheers Dorn Cranert

24. I am writing this post to find out if anyone has any information on how to fix the problem of aircraft textures not displaying when running FS X after the installation of the new PMDG Boeing 777 add-on. The only way that I can seem to get my simulator to display any aircraft textures post the installation of the new 777 is by first letting the simulator fly the little hang glider airplane after startup then moving the airplane to where I want to fly and then installing whatever aircraft it is that I wish to fly--- this is extremely tedious and on top of the tedium is the fact that it doesn’t always work. The problem is greatly exacerbated when trying to fly the 777 itself. I found somewhere someone’s solution about using the “Highmemfix=1 addition to the FS X config file--- I have 12 GB of memory in my computer but I really don’t understand how memories allocated for these programs and I have seen no great improvement since putting in the high memory fix addition to the configuration file. I have a fast computer and have only experienced this memory problem a few times in the past. Prior to the installation of the new precision manuals 777 I was not experiencing any of these issues and I am running a lot of mega scenery 2.0 scenery with absolutely no lags. I’m sure my reading a lot of posts on the forums that this is some sort of intrinsic PMDG problem for people trying to run their aircraft on low powered computers, but my computer is not low powered and I wonder if this is just the way the 777 is--- just looking for any help with any sort of solution to this problem. Thanks to anybody who can lend a hand, I was really looking forward to flying this aircraft in my virtual airline--- hope that there’s some solution available. Cheers Dorn

Cheers Dorn
