  1. I just tested with SB3.02 and although I didn't receive a CTD, it didn't connect to either Vatsim or IVAO.Is there some sort of connection time-out included in SB3.1 that may be causing a CTD if no internet connection is found within a certain period?Ken Brandhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~kmbrand/mypic1.jpg"Aviation combines all the elements I love:Science, Freedom, Beauty, Adventure. As a pilot we must be at least proficient in all elements"- Charles Lindbergh.
  2. Roland,I am experiencing the same problem with the same error message and resultant CTD as Israel on my PC at work. This PC is running through a WAN and its associated firewall, so perhaps it is this that is causing the error. I haven't had a chance to try SB at home via dial up connection as yet, but will do so as soon as I can. I hope this helps.Ken Brandhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~kmbrand/mypic1.jpg"Aviation combines all the elements I love:Science, Freedom, Beauty, Adventure. As a pilot we must be at least proficient in all elements"- Charles Lindbergh.
  3. Woow! That is some fine piece of work. Some of the best art work I've seen. Can't wait to take it up. All this and more at no cost to users. The benevolance of the Fly community is to be commended. Keep it up guys and we'll all keep FlyIIng.Ken Brandhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~kmbrand/mypic1.jpgThe highest art form of all is a human being in control of himself andhis airplane in flight, urging the spirit of a machine to match his own.
  4. Very nice. Will it come in a diesel version also?? (-: Ken Brandhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~kmbrand/mypic1.jpg
  5. Very nice, and interesting reflection effects under the glareshield. What aircraft is this for?Ken.
  6. Thanks Tony, I got the file and no I have no ability to utilize the source code. C++ causes a funny glaze to form over my eyes whenever I try to get a handle on it. I do however respect greatly those that can manipulate it. I will give those gauge dll's a go in my 737Thank you for the kind words on my panel guages. It was simply many, many hours of labour to copy other professionally designed works of art. I sometimes wonder whether I really could find something better to do (I know my wife thinks so), but like you and many others I have an overwhelming fascination with aviation both real and simulated.Hoping to contribute more,Ken.
  7. Tony, is that the Saab340 by Pontus Hedlund?Ken Brand
  8. Thanks Tony, I'll have a look for those source codes. All I used for the panel and guage relief was PaintShop Pro V7 and messed around with the 3D Effects such as 'Buttonize' and 'Inner & Outer Bevel'. It took a fair bit of trial and error to get the right relief height and shading etc. I used existing guages from other aircraft and other sims as a guide that were very likely made with 3DMax or similar. The guage artwork was simply pasted on from another guage and will be replaced with the actual working one when fully developed. I certainly don't plan on have 4 altimeters in the cockpit! Likewise the knobs and switches are stolen for display purposes only. There are quite a range of effects that you can get from PaintShop so don't underestimate its capabilities, although I suspect that it would be much easier in a 3D program once you get the hang of its intricacies..... One day perhaps.Hope this helps,Ken.:-wave
  9. I used the possible sales increase argument with PMDG but to no avail. Seemed reasonable to me but no go!As far as systems required, I was going to use many of the the aircraft monitoring and nav functions implemented by the 757/777 and perhaps even the FMC. I can probably get away with using the Hawker systems and other default aircraft. Here is a partial of the panel:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67704.jpgLots of work ahead,Ken Brand
  10. Just an update on this issue.PMDG have replied with a NO as far as using any of their panel guages and programming in a non-PMDG aircraft model. Not surprising.Oh well, looks like its Hawker guages or hit the programming books!Ken Brand:(
  11. Thanks Ken.I thought as much. I'll try and get in touch with the designers, but I might just have to give 3D graphics a try. PaintShops no problem, but Truespace! that's another thing altogether. I'll study Bart's tutes more thoroughly. As for the guages and displays, I doubt PMDG would release their code, but I wondered if they would allow their pre-configured systems to be implemented in other panels.Ever hopeful,Ken Brand:-beerchug
  12. I am in the process of designing an aircraft panel and find that the process is made much easier by utilizing bits and pieces of 3D panels designed for other aircraft by other designers and perhaps from other flight sims (MSFS & X-Plane for example). My question is, what are the legal issues with this approach? Are these panels under copyright and if so, how do I go about getting approval for their use and alteration? This issue also arises with flight systems. I take it that using existing default FlyII gauge and panel systems is allowed, but what about utilizing systems designed by others. For example, the PMDG777 PFD is far closer to a real 737 PFD than the existing Hawker display, however I imagine the PMDG art and coding is under copyright. Would it be acceptable to give credit to the original designers and programmers within the readme documentation?I realise the time and effort that originating designers put in is enourmous and needs due credit, but if these efforts could be utilized by other budding designers, we could release more panels of equally high quality and realism.Ken Brand:-sun1
  13. Fantastic to hear that contact and cooperation has been made with some of the original Fly designers. And what better collaboration than between F2F and ROTW. I can't wait to see the fruits of their labour. In some way I feel guilty in benefiting from such efforts without much return, but if appreciation is worth anything then you have tons from me.I can forsee that MSFS may well see its crown stolen by these galant efforts. And, speaking as a real world trainee pilot and FS enthusiast, so it should.Ken Brand:-beerchug
  14. Just a note to let anyone who is interested know that I uploaded some tinkered UI windows last night. They are the "Directory" and "Navigation Log" windows which I have added column titling information. I tend to use the internal flight planner infrequently, and when I do, I forget what some of the information means. For experienced users it may be of little use, but newbies might find it a help. Anyway give it a try if you like, and let me know how you find this very small addition to FlyII.You'll find them in the FlyII Navigation section of the file library titled "fplantitles.zip"Ken:-cool
  15. Osvoldo,Go to the page near the head of this forum titled "FIRST TIME FLY!ERS - PLEASE READ" by Ken Salter. Follow the instructions and see if you still get the same problem.Ken. ;)
  16. David & Ken (Wood),Whew! Looks like I've opened a can of worms. Serves me right for living in the most isolated capital city in the world. To answer your question Ken, I'm using FSBuild version 1.3.8. This builds my flight plans quite satisfactorily, I was just perturbed by the errors generated by InfoMetar and thought there may be a simple way to solve it. Obviously not so. David, don't go spending endless nights updating your program on my account, it works fine for most situations and I can live with it. Remember, you don't get paid for this. But if future-proofing is what you're after, then I'm all for it. Not being a programmer I understood about 10% of what you said, but it sounded convincing anyway. Thanks for all your help and input and I'll watch this forum with interest,Ken.;)
  17. Hmmmm! That's a bummer. It kind of makes it difficult to use such a good program. Thanks for investigating this for me anyway. I'm still confused but then that's not too hard these days.Ken.:-beerchug
  18. David,Thanks for your prompt reply and may I say thanks for a terrific program to add to an already terrific simulator, however this problem leaves me a little confused. Your Help file also indicated that the InfoMetar's database uses FlyII's default database (I think Airport.pod), however while Fly shows up my airports, InfoMetar doesn't. For example Jandakot airport "YPJT" (the airport I fly out of in real life) is not recognised by InfoMetar yet FlyII does. Also the town of Albany in the Southwest of the state has it's airport code in InfoMetar as "YPAL", when it is actually "YABA" (also recognised correctly by Fly). All this makes me wonder where InfoMetar is getting its information from. Not being able to recognise airports makes it a little difficult to gather weather for a planned flight in this region. In all other respects your application works great and I can see why there has been no need to update, I would just like to find a solution to this anomoly. Many thanks,Ken:-violin
  19. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to edit/update the airport database in Infometar 1.01? I am based in Western Australia and find that generating metar for any flight in this region using FSBuild and InfoMetar results in unkown or errant airport codes. This program is very useful but there has been no update since version 1.01 as far as I can find. Can someone suggest a fix?Ken:-roll
