    Yes Blender is very nice. I remember there being a beginners tutorial on setting it up for 3 window view. It became much more user friendly following the fellas instructions.Another freeware 3d modeling program that might be worth someones time for exploration is Art of Illusion. It can export Wavefront Object .obj.http://www.artofillusion.org/For graphics, Inkscape sems to be a nifty freeware program someone might find useful.http://inkscape.org/Of all the 3d modeling and graphics programs though that I've fiddled with, I always seem to return to Sketchup for basic modeling, and Paint Shop Pro for texturing.jimb

    Yep,I guess this is a bust. I was able to render a cube with brick2.tfx but couldn't get it to render preview. Will fiddle with it a bit more;. Doesn't seem as friendly to use as others like Sketchup, Anim8or or Wings3D.There is a newer one dated Nov 2009; but it to I haven't been successful.http://www.ee.qub.ac.uk/graphics/openfx/index.htmjimb

Thanks goes to Hans again because I found them on the CD he sent me all those years a go.I'm not sure what the files are referenced in "1. download #13920""2. download #13955"I wish now I had taken an additional time to record the missing/oops download ID #s when I made that list way back when.So I couldn't send those.     This is a fine package Dave. Thank you. I went and poked around via Bing Birdseye view. You captured it just right. Before install I renamed LGS' version and flew there so I could compare. Yours is a vast improvement. I do wonder though why they ".die'd" it out. Any guesses? It (thiers) didn't seem to error on me, so got me wondering why.You folks really ought to install Daves.     Hi John,I'm glad you like it. Looking at some notes I found in an old folder, it turns out I was in the works of gathering info on building a Mukilteo station house and tower as well. I took a look at lighthousefriends.com and it is a fine piece of architecture and will be a major challenge to get it right. Mukilteo is across the water from Admiralty Head.I also found a Cape Meares light house I had made while rummaging around on some of my hard drives. I'm going to rebuild it though because it opens in ModelViewer with an error (about the textures). I'll need to make some better textures as well. The light house is in outer terrain Oregon.Speaking of airplanes, I did find a folder where I was working on the XP56. Its in terrible shape and I can tell why I abandoned it. I was making it with Sketchup and it was going very terribly. That one for sure will stay abandoned.Another folder had a ford Torino I had started.Some other named folders with notes where apparently I had made some 3d objects for the Thief II game.Intriguingly, I found a folder on my lap top named Dr1 and with-in what appears to be a new dr1 model from JonP and some notes. I'm going have to investigate that and see what I can recollect about it.There are textures in there as well.Will concentrate on the Cape Meares lighthouse though so I won't forget. jimb

    Hello Dave,Thank you for the kind words. Well, contrary to my statement on another post, I decided to go ahead and upload the Admiralty Head Light Tower. Only difference between the uploaded model and the earlier screen shots are I went ahead and added a ball and spike to the top of the light tower. Hopefully everyone will find it useful.I also included in the upload an "extras" folder that contains the 3d model in 3ds format as well as the textures in gif format. I did this because I'm sure it needs improvements so anyone can can edit it as they wish.The "extras" also contains a small scenery package that places the tower and station house at the correct geo location.Folks will need to install my Admiralty Head Station House model though; or the scenery package won't work. The station house is a seperate download located in the Avsim Library: ahstat1.zip, DLID 67246."It would look good on the streets of Olde London Towne. More Victoriana to follow?"Umm, not sure. The model belongs to Looking Glass and all I was doing was kind of seeing how their Thief Gold game models looked in their Flt3 game.Can you give me links to victorian street lamps in Olde London Towne? Maybe I can figure a way to model them. They won't have lights though. I still can't figure out how to make lights on models.     Didn't need to mess with the .bin, just converted the .gif's from the T1G pal to Sea pal then used RobD's FixMip4.4 to make the mips. The object doesn't light at night, but at least the little red sfx at top kind of glows (between those two crescents).     Hi John,I am right happy that you like the bus. I use Sketchup for 3d modeling and texturing. Anim8or to resize and position.The dbus is pretty old so I probably used Sketchup v4. The program is excellent for dunder heads like myself. When I have a photo, and know the dimensions of non-complex subject(only if I can find real blueprints or descriptions); I could almost generally make an exact replica; then apply the photo as texture. Sketchup4 is no longer available and the new version is to complex for me to cope with.As you point out, this ends up with an unusually high amount of textures. Its why I rarely make public anything I do, because most times they're either impractical, or just awful. For example, way back I made a Bell Rock Lighthouse tower when I saw lots of you guys were creating a UK region. Well when I got done with the model, it has to many polygons, so I just dropped it and let it sit. Just like the dbus, pixelated, to many textures, so I just abandoned it.Other programs I have tried and even with multiple hand holdings from many folks, I still fail to grasp how to use it.LithUnwrap program you mentioned I think I tried to use it once to texture a model, but when the thing got "flattened", I couldn't tell which part of the model was what, so shamefully I had to uninstall the tool.I still try to model with Sketchup7. Recently when it looked like the Seattle Hi-Res region was being extended up to Vancouver I started model the Fisgard Lighthouse. I wasn't able to cope with Sketchup7's different ways of uses photo to create exact dimension models, so abandoned that as well.     I found the original downloaded seatle-caves.zip from the Avsim Library. I'm not allowed to re-upload to Avsim as I'm not the original author. I typed it out in long form below.I think most of our latest missing files here at the library are because of the attack, and the original authors are un-aware or maybe un-available to re-upload.you all take care,jimmybMy oldest files were on my 2 maxtor hard drives that "toasted" on me (last year?). They were a 60gig and a 40gig. I heard a pop from my desktop tower, then an even more dreaded smell of burning electronics. I quick, pulled the power. On investigation, found that one of the hd's had a chip melted and the hd adjacent to it had black soot on a corner.These 2 old hd's were some of my oldest and also contained my majority of all: -Janes Attack Squadron (Thunder Over Europe)(I lost all of Warbirds' custom JAS skins except for P51 Beautiful Doll. Gone are the P38 'Beat", a custom skin for the B24 "Dragon?' and a custom skin for the B17)(A lot of U4EAs stuff),-Janes series combat sims-LB Gold, LB2, F18, FA, WW2F, IAF 688I hunter/kille, F15, USAF-All 3 Flight Unlimited files (I had a full copy of Tommy Lehto's stuff and his notes-all gone now), -All Need For Speed High Stakes stuff, -All Grand Prix Legends stuff, -bunch of my custom 3d models(not fit for public, they were really awful). -All my Fly and Fly II stuff (which is really bad because Terrascene is no longer available here at Avsim because of the attack. Theres not much use for running FlyI II for me now as the original game discs didn't come with much flyable areas).-My only working Ghost Recon, -Only working Rowan Flying Corps Gold, Mig Alley and BoB. -A Thief Gold custom mission I was making. Basically near everything I had been accumulating over the years for old pc games. A very few I had backups elsewhere. I could re-install all the games. I re-installed some of the games just fine from their cd's; but I think they worked better because I had installed them originally while I was still on Win98+fat32. So I lost near all of my "old-stuff". I have been buying western digital brand hd's now and they are pretty good."Hey JimmyB, didn't you back any of that stuff up"? Yep, on a 320gig Seagate FreeAgent usb external hd. Which tipped off my laptop stand and hasn't worked since. I pulled it out of its case and plugged it in directly to my desktop motherboard. Its a barracuda sata hd. It still doesn't spinup so either I have my mobo configured wrong to read sata hard drives or the hard drive is bad.maybe i should change my name to boomerang?

    Thank you for the links. I was finally successful in the Lake Renegade. Here's a link to the screen shot. Appologies for the lighting. Beautiful scenery. I have to add them to my wish list for a future purchase. I recently bought 3 of the 19m mesh from FSgenesis, and so with my fixed income I have to keep to a tight budget.

    I was watching History Channel, Extrreme Airports and just had to open XPlane9 and give it a try. I failed it every time. I used XP9 for this because the runways follow the terrain contour. It was a blast trying it though. I was in the default C172; tried full flaps, near to stall just trying to putter up over the hill before pushing down to hopefully gently touch down.I tried it with FS9 and was successful in the Quest Kodiak amphib passenger variant. Though the scenery was much more appealing visually; I found it much easier because of the flattened runway. It was still fun though and very beautiful. Departed from TNCM Princess Juliana. Good sim times.jimb

    Back in Jan I had compiled a spread sheet of our Flt3 library files and their status. Here, I'll try and paste the section where I sorted for your name to include files that were a team project. Hopefully this is helpful. Any other authors interested I can post their list as well; I'll just leave out your real names for security purposes. Posting Others' lists where it was a team project may flag duplicates; but it should still be helpful in getting the files safely back up to our library.
