  1. Here are 2 images of the Hoops2 Challenge. The challenge was modified to use the DagoRed2 Mustang, it is otherwise stock. The first image is using the new hi-res terrain. Notice how deeply buried it is. Hoop number 17 I think. I'll step up to a challenge; but the mustang just seems too big to squeeze through. The second shot is the same challenge using the stock terrain.I'll re-check, but I think our hairy friend in the Bigfoot challenge is under ground as well as the stranded hikers in another challenge. Hoop #17 New terrain: Stock terrain. Hoop 17 is 3rd from the mustangs nose:

  2. Here is a Google Earth view up the pass. I wonder what resolusion GE uses for these images? Lake Constance is in the foreground. I think Impasse Lodge is fictional.Certainly appears as though a determined individual could build a bush strip if they wanted. Enough real trees near the lake for some sort of rustic cabin. Would all washout I suppose come a thaw. Our stock terrain( FS9 with FSGenesis is also the same) more matches the google 3d image. For some reason our new flt3 hi-res terrain and FSX with FSX FsGenesis doesn't show the wall at the end of the pass. Is it possible for snow depth to affect the srtm images at the time the image is taken; in such a way that the snow surface is recorded as terrain surface? Could snow get that deep in that pass so-as it reaches the top edge of back wall? If you go deep enough in, there is a wide spot in the pass where flt3 stock terrain(where Naji planted Impasse Lodge) and fs9 indicates.

  3. Here are 2 shots of Flt3 with the new hi-res showing the fbo must be buried up under the ridge. The second shot is Lake Constance. Flt3 doesn't seem to render the location as "water". The Seawolf is "gears-down" on the lake. Had to use zoar because lake isn't "flat".I exported the Impasse Lodge Bookmark to Poi.Txt using Andres Fled Bookmark Manager for any one wanting to import the location to their own bookmark or Poi:***************8479 111433 Impasse Lodge ft7503; a line begining with this character stops FU3 from reading it and all other lines below it. So you can put what ever you like here. You can have up to 71 lines above this ;Information provided by Jon Lewis (Glidernut)This file was generated by FLED BookMark Manager (Andre Meystre)Layout: UTM Longitude, UTM Latitude, Point of Interest, ft000 elevation value from the FLED Bookmarks FLED BookMark Manager can convert this file to a FLED Bookmark file fbookmk.dat located in the main folder of FU3 ******************************Shot of the ridge. If you go here with fled and open the Impasse Lodge Package, you can see the objects below the surface. Perhaps everything could be moved a bit to the right of this shot because its a bit more level:Here is a shot of the Seawolf on the lake. I guess this area would need flattened somehow and class changed to water:lastly, entering the new hi-res pass: Shot with Fled:

  4. "A quick note on Impasse Lodge, all I get is a steep hill with no models / objects. I tried a Cessna trainer, chose the icon for Impasse Lodge and watched an aircraft toppling over while being parked. This can't be right. Let's start a new thread and post some pictures showing what it should look like.Hans Petter "My Error. I have 2 versions of Flt3 installed; 1 is with the stock-original terrain detail, and the other is with the new hi-res terrain detail. I had been flying the stock Flight3. Impasse Lodge is "buried" in the new hi-res terrain, with the fbo centered on a ridge. I have opened the package with FLED and cannot figure out how to get the models to "pop-up" to the surface. I've tried moving or jiggling the objects in the hopes fled would somehow "surface" the objects. I opened Andres Airport Editor and edited FBO.cfg, FBO2.cfg, M0AAAG.mod, M0ABAG.mod, "Z" plus 3 meters to see if that would raise the elevation of the models. All I proved for my efforts is I know-not how to correct the placement. 2 other ideas is to flatten that area or move everything to a level spot next to the ridge. So, correcting the package for the new hi-res terrain is way out of my abilities.Following are some shots of the Impasse Lodge entrance using stock Flt3 F5 view. You'll see that Flt3 stock terrain and textures does render Lake Constance complete with what seems to be a waterfall. The Seawolf is parked at EOR.I'll recheck my fastmail acct and see what has happened there, as you are on my safe list in my address book. I want add a note regarding the new hi-res terrain that the challenges were designed for the stock elevation and so need edited somehow. ie, some hoops are buried.View at pass entrance. Lake Constance is in the foreground."Further into the pass.At the FBO. Buildings on left and the Seawolf is way in the background patiently waitng for me to take her out on some Cascade fun. Finally the view from behind the Seawolf looking down the pass.

  5. Jim, how about uploading the Impasse Lodge files again? Naji's file as well as your recording is presently unavailable from the library. Hans Petter
Hello Hans, I didn't know we were allowed to re-upload files (until we get an absolute word that a particular file was unrecoverable), especially another authors. But I will upload Impasse Lodge Flt3 here real soon. First I'll try and find the original zipped version.Take care, jimbUpdate: I read at the Library Forum that the original author's can re-upload their files. Forum title is, "Need help downloading a file, Getting the Oooppss message".

  6. I have got FS9 running like a dream now with really good graphics, but I spend 90% of my sim time in FU3 - just can't pull myself away from it. :( Stuart
Have you installed Naji's Impasse Lodge Package? That is one of my fav challenging landing/ take-off packages. Visually, while parked and looking down through the pass, it is stunning. Then the thing I'll do is boot up FS9, FSX, then XP9 and fly to the same area, imagine there's an Impasse Lodge there, and try and "land". Eye-ball wise the 2 FS games look better and have more detail (ie, there's a high elevation lake just before the entrance); but nothing that is as attactive and enduring as the Flight Unlimted sim. There is, and always will be something about the charm and wonder of the Flight Unlimited series.jimb

  7. Here is the Operation section of JonP's readme for the DHC6:Operation:- Keyboard flying. You will need your keyboard or a configurable game pad to get the most out of this aircraft. Of course, a good yoke with throttle is ideal but many controls (engine start and stop, flaps etc) must be done by commands because there aren't controls for them on-screen. - Please note that FU3 doesn't actually model turboprops so we cannot expect perfection. There is no reverse thrust for example so the brakes are over- modelled somewhat, to compensate.- Use <e> for start and <ctrl>+<e> for stop or <shift>+<e> and do it separately. - Forget mixture! If you have a mixture lever, set it to full rich.- Switch off 'auto prop' in 'Options' if you have it on. It will make low-speed control impossible and burnout your brakes!- Radios are: COM, NAV1/ILS, NAV, ADF, DME and a radar transponder. To access, click on the radio stack (or lower right of panel in F2 view) and operate as per 'standard' FU3 radios. To tune COM, NAV or ILS, click on the frequency display and enter the new frequency. The ADF and transponder can be tuned by turning the knobs.Startup:1. Always start with no throttle and the pitch set to 'minimum'.2. When ready to move off, set the pitch control to 'maximum' and wait for the props to spin-up to >1000rpm.3. Release the brakes and apply a small bit of throttle. 3 'taps' on the key- board is ideal. You should move off. Keep an eye on speed. Use the toe brakes for speed control.Takeoff:1. When lined-up on the runway, apply 10 degrees of flaps and 5 'taps' of up- trim.2. Run-up the throttle gradually to ~50% and wait for spool-up, then release the brakes.3. Immediately continue applying throttle gradually. If the engines rev-out or you notice the prop rpm varying a lot, you may be applying throttle too quickly. Like 'turbo lag', there is a lag in the response of the turbines and pitch control mechanism.4. Watch the speed and at ~85kias, rotate and hold the nose up. Initial climbout at 1200-1500fpm (adjust as required). Throttle back to 700 degrees on the ITT gauges (just below red). Raise the flaps around 120kias. Watch the speed vs. climbrate! In thermal conditions, you will climb quicker. Sometimes, 1200fpm is safer, especially if you don't need STOL performance. * Reduce climbrate above 3,000ft to ~1200fpm.For a STOL takeoff, spool the engines to 100% before releasing the brakes, use full flaps and pull the stick back at ~85kias. You may climb as hard as you wish but, when speed drops below 70kias, level-off immediately and regain speed. Flying:1. At level-off, reduce power to the 'red line' on the torque gauges, to avoid overspeed. 172kias is 'maximum cruise'. Vne is 235kts (off the scale).2. For autopilot operation, use the keyboard commands. Heading and Course may be set with the knobs on the HSI (Course on left, Heading on right).3. Switching on HDG at any time locks the AP to the current heading of the aircraft. Adjusting the HEADING knob switches the AP to the set heading, visible on the HSI. 4. All other autopilot operations are 'standard' FU3.5. Best operation is between 5,000 and 10,000ft. The DHC-6 is not pressurised so, take an oxygen mask to get to the actual ceiling of ~22,500ft!6. Use the 'External GPS' (map...) for positional info on long trips. 7. Range (on the 'red torque line') is about ~720nm.Coming down:1. To come down, reduce throttle down to '10' on the torque gauges and wait for the speed to fall below 140kts.2. Drop one notch of flaps and commence descent. Readjust power as necessary. To descend quicker, use more flaps!3. Max speed for the flaps is 150kts*Note: Due to the large wing area and huge flaps, be wary of using full flaps in high winds or heavy crosswinds. A faster touchdown in these conditions is safer. Don't try STOL in a hurricane...Landing:1. On downwind, reduce to ~120kts, flaps to 15 degrees.2. On base, reduce to ~110kts, flaps another notch, wind permitting.3. On final, reduce to ~90kts and leave there. More flaps if you think it's required (again, wind permitting). The combination of engine lag and high- mounted engines means you cannot simply apply throttle to get out of trouble. 4. Over the fence, drop throttle to zero and let her settle onto the runway. Bring in the flaps after touchdown and hit the toebrakes. For a STOL landing, slow to ~75kts with full flaps, cut power and drop onto the strip. It is possible to descend very sharply (good for obstructions) - just watch the vertical speed. On touchdown, immediately hit the brakes HARD and pull in the flaps to prevent bounce. On the ground:1. When down to ~20kts, release brakes and give the throttle-up again. Back to the parking spot, use the toe brakes for speed control.2. At the parking spot, engage the parking brake, set pitch to 'minimum' and hit <ctrl>+<e> to shut down the engines.

  8. Hi,I don't know if the original authors of the SR71 are still around, but....Here is a link to Andre's new version of Resviewer and he has achieved some remarkable changes to Gideons original. One of his new features is you can look at an aircrafts air physics directly within Resviewer and edit the values.jimbhttp://www.agtim.ch/fu3/ResViewer.htmlps: Happy Thanksgiving to all! ahhh, I don't see the happy waving smiley anymore.

  9. Hi Jim,Hold Alt key down and move the mouse with left mouse key down to navigate quick in any direction.Use Alt + 2 to zoom out, Alt+1 to zoom in and if you want to zoom out very far hold Alt+shift down have the mouse centered and move the mouse away from the center - caution very fast - up = zoom out, down = zoom in, left and right will rotate the map.Once you reach your wanted position zoom as you like and set a bookmark.good luckAndre
Hi Andre,That did the trick. It "jumped" to the location when I zoomed all the way out, then when I zoomed in, there it was over Seligman AZ. :( Thank You,JimB

  10. In the FLED main window, I select: view, set top-down position. I type in: 35 20.05, 112 53.175.The top-down does not go to the geo location, still shows SeaTAC. The bottom location bar does show my target geo location. The zoar window will go to it. It's the top-view that will not go there.Selecting sync top-down position or sync zoar position has no effect.I closed fled, created a new folder named seligmanaz in packages. Re-open fled, opened the blank seligman package folder and it does the same thing.I'm not remembering how to use fled anymore. Can you guys help.I was just going to put some uncontrolled airports along I-40/ Route66. Was easier for me long ago. :( Thanks,JimB

  11. I keep the mouse trail and shadow off. Desktop: I use a custom Xp theme= no screen saver, a custom 800x600 desktop background I made. Appearance is Win Classic Style + I have Clear Type enabled.Desktop resolution: I usually have it set to 1152x864x32. Sometimes I'll drop it down to 1024x768x32.The ATI card: I usually have 3D AA= app preference, AF= app preferance. When I fly Flt3 I set these to 6 and 16 respect. Here are 2 shots of the Bravo panel. The first is Flt3_DDFix with the stock Bravo. 1024x768 AA= 6, AF= 16. As you can see, the rec line is showing and also the mouse trail will not go up into the rectangle. This is what gave me the idea that maybe performing the rectangle fix may somehow rid the mouse trail/ lag problem. The second is Flt3_DDFix with the rectangle mod applied to the Bravo panel. 1024x768 AA= 6, AF= 16. The mouse trail has disappeared. My preference is to keep the mouse cursor viewable so I'll know where it is, which system it is ready to access at all times. FPS Cost: Notice how I've lost 10 fps in the modded cockpit F3/ IFR view. Panning around in the F5 external view I understandably did not loose any frames(same as before the rec mod).

  12. I suppose I've been misunderstanding the current status of our library. I thought it was fully functional for new uploads.Regarding tools for splitting the file: Splitz(?), Winrar, 7zipIs FilePlanet the same as FileFront? If not; maybe there's a way to upload there?jimboff-topic: did you guys notice the screenshots forum return today? It was right above our forum list. Now it's gone? I guess I'm going koo-koo's?

  13. Far as I know, use ctrl + o to get into 3d cockpit view. Then you have to use the mouse to pan around. So, no way to use the mouse to "click" when in the 3d mode. There may be a way to reassign the panning in 3d mode via the key assignments screen. Push mouse up towards the top till the title bar shows, then select settings. I own the the Graphsim v9 version; but rarely fly it. Hopefully some of the X-Planes guru's will swing by and answer your questions more accurately and thoroughly.jimb

  14. Thank you for the tutorial. As an experiment, I applied your instructions to the stock Bravo. I wanted to see if it would fix the fsaa "lines in cockpit" and to see if the rec's were attributing to the the problem Lorenz was describing(mouse lag, mouse trails). I have also always had the mouse trail problem and the "lines" when running 4 to 6 fsaa and Flt3_DDFix.Applying the rec-fix has cleared up both problems on the bravo. I have tried it with the Flt3_DDFix.exe. In-flt: 1024x768.I have not applied this to any other aircraft. My desktop:WinXpPro Sp2Amd64 3700+ 2.4ghzDx9cATI Sapphire X1950Pro-512mb agpATT tool set to: 6aa, 16af, v-sync default off, refresh rate same as desktopDesktop: 1152x864x32JimB

  15. Hi Hans,Chris Lowe had repaired all the stock airplane cockpits that were showing lines when using anti aliasing; is that the same fix as you recommend? Also, Cockpit designer (v.2 + patch to v.4) is available at Gideons site: geocities dot com/alive dot geo/downloads dot html jimb
