  1. It's a bit amazing for me that this is one sector that's been relatively ignored in the FS community. I would really like to see many more choices in the corporate jet area. If any of you read FLYING or FORBES magazines, then you know that the ownership of these planes is increasingly rapidly as the airlines are more restrictive on their schedules. Very versatile planes that can go to the big hubs as well as that small strip where a customer may be located. We will probably have to wait until FSX, as I would not suspect that anyone is going to invest any time in developing any new planes for FS9. Vent off ;-) Mike
  2. Nope on both questions: data base was rebuilt just before this flight and the gear was down; it was the first thing I reached for as I started to climb out. The controller did say something preceding the go around command but I didn't catch it. It was a bit mumbled, but the "continental 1476 go around" certainly got my attention. Mike
  3. Had my first commanded 'go around' yesterday with RC. I was at about 500 ft going into Richmond, VA in the Coolsky MD80 when I got the command. Not sure why it happened as there was no other traffic at the time. Anyway, it taught me another lesson: make sure you have plenty of fuel as I had to do an "in flight refueling" ;-) in order to complete the flight. RC's flight critique said I did an excellent job, but still a mystery why I had the go around. Mike
  4. Given the way FS generates and handles AI traffic, I'm surprised RC does as well as it does. I always check the approach to the runway before entering as I generally run traffic at 100% and FS will suddenly pop in an AI plane, or two, (sometimes looks like dragonflies in a mating ritual) on a 1 mile final. You can usually spot airline traffic approaching the runway from about 5 miles out if your plane doesn't have a TCAS. I'll buy FSX if it does nothing more that improve the AI system over FS9; it's the MOST annoying aspect of FS9 for me. Mike
  5. I've used the direct to waypoint option a few times, I'll try that for my next wx deviation. Mike
  6. Distance depends on the flight plan; I don't really have a set spacing. When I asked for a deviation the waypoint was about 25 nm with a TS sitting right on top of it. Your answer seems to imply that RC emphasizes waypoints over the flight path they define. However, if it is needed to deviate for safety reasons, but then still return to the flight path, shouldn't that be allowed? How is it done with real ATC? Seems to go back to the other thread about getting credit for waypoints. A pilot should stick to a flight plan (hit the waypoints), but not be made to go back if one is missed, and also allowed to deviate if needed for weather. Mike
  7. Which means thunderstorms. Twice in the last week using AS6 I've had to ask for a wx deviation, only to be denied. I still deviated as a PIC I would not penetrate the looming TS straight in my flight path and of course got all sorts of grief from RC. Why won't RC give me a deviation? It mentioned crossing traffic, but with those 40,000 ft monsters around, safety for me is my primary concern ;-) Mike
  8. Improved graphics is ok with me as long as there not too much of a performance hit. To tell the truth for me the biggest gripe I have with FS9 is the AI traffic. If that could be improved ( and it can as shown by the attempts such as those from AIsmooth and RC4), then that would be a big step. If MS is planning on a port to xbox, that's also fine as long as we can have our add-on's also. My family may get annoyed with my use of our 50" LCD TV for flight simming though ;-)
  9. When I've noticed a conflict between what approach initially gives me for a runway and the theobvious wind direction I immediately request the more appropriate runway. Seems to work as RC will divert any AI in my way. Mike
  10. Thanks for this reply, Doug. It confirms what I thought should be a better response from RC: ream the pilot out for missing the waypoint. If that's what happens when controllers such as yourself see this happen, then that should be what RC tries to simulate. I have one plane I use that has a bug when swtiching from manual to autopilot that sometimes causes some large vertical speed excursions. I get yelled at by RC. Annoying since I'm dealing with a buggy add-on, but understandable from RC's point of view and I wouldn't want it changed. Mike
  11. I think this brings up a good point. Never having been a real IFR pilot, would this ever really happen that a controller would order you back to a waypoint??? "Getting credit" for hitting a waypoint is a very "gameish" aspect that I wouldn't expect from any serious FS add-on. The RC warning about drifting off course would seem more appropriate in this circumstance. Don't get me wrong, RC has completely replaced the default ATC for me. This is just one little aspect that, for me, needs to be fixed. Mike
  12. Back to square one: did a quick flight yesterday and had minimization, so it's not the new FSUIPC. However, I was able to repeat the condition where I could prevent minimization if I switched FS from full-screen to windowed mode before AS finished its processing. At times the minimization seems very random. Mike
  13. Haven't had much time this past week to do any extensive flying, but did do a quick VFR last evening. I haven't had any minimization for two flights now. The *ONLY* change has been the installation FSUIPC 3.6. I think some more testing is needed however and I'll try that next week and let you know if I can test some the build you mentioned if time constraints look better. Mike
  14. Auto-Submit has long been identified as the trigger. I think what the AS folks are trying to figure out is why Auto Submit for ASG is causing the minimization Mike
  15. I have to disagree with the above statement. Since having RC4 I never have a flight plan filed in FS. I just start up at the initial airport and let RC do the rest, and still get minimization. I also have seen no difference in minimization as to whether I process a flight plan in AS or not. I have done some VFR work in the past two weeks with no flight plan and stil got minimization. Mike
  16. For no good reason other than I like to do things myself, I have never used the Auto Refresh AI option, so it's never been checked in my case. I refresh AI manually within AS after its initial processing, and for now after the minimization :-) Don't have FSHotSeat even installed. Mike
  17. Hmmm... I thought I had replied last night, but avsim seemed to have failed to post. The only correction I have from my experience is that the problem is not specfic to 485. I've had the issue since the first release of AS6. I just recently tried 485 to see if the problem was corrected and it wasn't. One more bit of info: I tried again a few days ago and before AS finished its initial processing I switched from having FS in full screen to windowed mode and there was no minimization. I haven't had the time to follow this up to see if more definitively whether the minimization is dependent on whether FS is full screen or not. But, up until that instance I always have FS in full screen while AS is processing. Mike
  18. FSUIPC is 3.553. I don't really want to roll back as then I would have to put up with the old ADvDisp for RC4 which was awful. I've had this problem since the beginning of AS6, which was with an older version of FSIUPC. FSUIPC is unregistered version BTW. Mike
  19. Don't know if there *is* a solution yet. See my recent thread from the last few days: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=27257&page= At least for me it's not a big problem as it only happens once when AS6 does it initial "get the weather" and processing. After that, I can run a 3 hours flight with no minimization while getting updates every 45 minutes. I actually think it's a feature Damian put in :D When FS minimizes then I know AS is done doing its thing and I can go ahead and get RC4 up and running and do the flight. Otherwise I have to guess by looking a the hard drive light to figure out if AS was done or not.;) Mike
  20. Ok, the VC is definitely *not* the problem. Just tried with the Aeroworx King Air with both 2D and VC and got minimization on both. Don't have a clue now as to why I had several instances where everything was stable. We at least know it's not FSAutoStart. I also reset the PCI latency seting on my card from 248 to 64 before running FS. It's always helped in terms of frame rates; could that be an issue?? Mike
  21. Not yet. I did the test with build 485 with the VC. Let me try again without the VC and see what happens. I'll get back to you. Mike
  22. Just tried Build 485 and still have minimization with one small change: FS minimizes as AS writes the airport the plane is at, rather than the minimization occurring after the update is completed. Mike
  23. Using the Aerocommander with the VC I did 2 tests: one with FSAutoStart and one without. Started AS6, processed the flight plan and then started FS. In *both* cases FS minimized after the initial weather processing. Hope this helps. Mike
