  1. Hey everyone! Thanks for the prompt and reassuring responses! Glad to hear I targeted everything right. Going to start pricing items this evening. And yes, the plan is for WIN7 to reside on one SSD drive, FSX on another SSD, and the mechanical drive for overflow storage.
  2. Hey all, Going to jump on the "critque my build" bandwagon. First time PC builder, looking for a peer review of the system I have specd out. Spent some time on a fewFSX specific system builder sites seeing what sort of systems they build, and then read through a majority of NickN's bible. I think I hit all the key spots. Was also pleased to see it came in below my self assigned budget. The common cry of "you can build it cheaper yourself" appears to indeed have merit! But again, as a first time builder, just want to make sure none of the finer details got missed, specificially when it comes to MOBO selection, memory, and perhaps even the case. OC'ing isn't an immediate objective, but figured I'd get the aftermarket cooler to be prepared. Just looking to get out of this pretty much what most others are: as close to smooth operation/display of FSX using the top-end add-ons. 3. I searched the forums, but I couldn't find anyone who has had a similar issue, or a solution.I'm trying to merge the PSS Dash-8 panel to the Dreamwings model, but upon doing so, I'm left with a couple of areas of opaque black spots by the left corner of the panel, and by the compass frame, that cover the rest of the outside view.I attached a picture for better visibility. I can move and resize the panel, and the black areas move with the panel. When I do, the outside view is revealed, so that's sized correctly. So it would seems it some sort of issue with the bmp. Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.BTW, I'm running FS9 on a Vista SP2 computer.-Joe
  4. Good question actually.Or at least in my case, a time frame, not a target release date, but some sort of window for release would be helpful in my case.I'm in the market for a new computer which supports FSX, but am reluctantly holding out knowing that PMDG has some big releases on the way.I'd hate to settle down with a new system now which may handle FSX in it's current state, but then find out it's brought to it's knees when the 747X, MD-11, and NGX are installed.Certainly if these releases are still sometime off (which I believe is most likely the case with the NGX, at least) I would probably bite the bullet, and I could least be get some enjoyment out of a new system, as opposed to sitting here waiting indefinitely.
  5. Jim,Thanks a lot for the response. It was spot on to what I was looking (and hoping) for. Definitely some very positive comments on the system, more so then I would've thought.Biggest hurdle now would be to figure out if I can part with the amount of money. Actually sounds like it may be worth it. Still, that's a large chunk of change to be parting with. At least I have some good feedback to consider, though.
  6. I'm curious to know what people's experience has been running both FS9 and FSX on any of the Dell XPS desktop systems? My current system, about 5 years old, has an Intel 2.53 Ghz P IV, 1.5 GB ram, and a very dated GeForce TI 4400 Graphics card. When it's behaving well, I can get acceptable performance out of it, but over time it begins to suffer. I am one of the group of people who doesn't necessarily want to spend a vast majority of my time researching what components would work best, as every time I try, there's a multitude of suggestions and recommendations out there. Unless someone out there can suggest/recommend/build one, I'd rather start with a base system and start building any knowledge on that foundation. In a nutshell, what I'm looking for is a system that can handle a well stocked FS9 with little to no performance issues, as well as, have some potential for handling FSX. From what I've been reading, there are few systems out there which can handle it well. I'd at least like to have a fighting chance in the near future, ie. be able to handle first gen dx10.The thinking is that with a system per the above, at worst, I can have a near flawlessly working FS9, with the potential of an acceptable FSX experience in the near future. Yes, I could wait a couple more months to see what FSX w/ DX10 brings. But in the very possible chance there's nothing dramatic to come of it, and performance is still lacking, I've wasted that much time where I could have at least been enjoying FS9 just well I would be months from now. Finally, I won't go so far as to so money isn't an option. I'd of course like to keep the price reasonable, but if it will cost a little extra to get the requested performance, that will at least justify the extra cost.Just wondering what sort of insight people might be able to bring to these inquiries.Thanks-Joe
  7. Anyone have any luck locating in the Seattle area?I spent 2 hours driving around to 6 separate retailers with no joy. I'm hoping our proximity to MS isn't curtailing out ability to enjoy this a bit earlier than expected.I figure picking up a copy today would be a good way to end another long week. Thanks.
  8. I was wondering if any of you Flightplan whiz's out there might be able to locate the flight plans filed by Boeing's Connexion 737, during it's recent world tour.Callsign was BOE51, reg. N60669Thanks!
  9. Saw it myself the other day on the frontpage. To me it seems like a really exciting and stellar idea, if it's indeed possible and is going to actually happen. I can't imagine how AI could get any better than what is seems they're promising to do with it. Guess we'll see.I'm surprised this is the first anyone's mentioned it. Curious to hear what others have to say on it as well.
  10. Could anyone possibly me send me the demo file so that I may try this out, provided it's allowed? I registered last night with the intention of trying it out today, only to find out downloads were suspended. If it isn't allowed to pass this on, I understand, just was really looking to try this one out. If need be, I suppose I could wait til downloads become available again. If not a problem, you can send it to Press4MECO@aol.com
