  1. Hi Scott, I think that's why I shifted away from FS a few years ago and now just make 3D printed models for shapeways - no texturing involved. Pity I only ever completed one aircraft for FSX using 3D Canvas/Crafter (Download link should anyone want it 16Mb - https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=6B528339820717E!406) Cheers, Paul
  2. My first model for FS has been released. A true FSX version will follow shortly, although this one will probably work OK.Available from www.classicbritishfiles.com , comes with 6 colour schemes plus two others available. For those that like flying low and very slow.
  3. Polygons facing away from the viewpoint are not processed by the video card so only about half the polys get rendered in an external view.Probably even fewer rendered on an internal view.
  4. An alternative FSX modelling tool (not free, but cheaper than 3DS at $70) is being tested with 3D canvas pro.It compiles models using the FSX SDK xtomdl program and provides all the features of the 3DS materials, attach tool and animations. This is all with a view to using the tool for Train Sim2 (hence the website)http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=86363Overview:http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=86566more here:http://decapod-3d.spaces.live.comI'm just finishing off another FSX aircraft to prove it all works.
  5. >99.5% of all scenery in FSX is extremely simple. The>exceptions are obviously aircraft models.>>You're right, just as long as people don't think they can build complex models with it - and they will try.The MS Trains Sim 1 sketchup export has produced some really nice models. There are also a few texture stretching issues with sketchup behaving differently from other 3D packages, but thes can be got around.Once I've finshed with the 3D canvas exporter, I might have a go at writing something - it could be a long way off though.
  6. >3DVia is useful for building very simple shaped buildings, at>this point, and not much else, and even then, only for>importing into Virtual Earth.>>You can't even launch the app from your desktop.>>SketchUp is MILES ahead of 3Dvia (and, I'm a MS a really excited user!) It's>really a shame there's no way to get a SketchUp model into>Flight Simulator X.Getting a sketchup model into FSX just requires a bit of Ruby programming.I wrote a sketchup exporter for MS Train Sim 1 - however, I really would not recommend using Sketchup for anything but the simplest models, it is not designed for game models and poly counts can easily go through the roof.OTOH, 3D Canvas Pro is a cheaper (not free) alternative to 3DSThere is already and exporter for FSX, though it still needs a bit more work to add some extra functions.http://amabilis.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/704...241#12410443241ACEs are aware of this software, I gave them a demo at Devcon last month.
  7. I'm coming over from the UK.Not for the planes but for ACES other project - Trains(Though I am interested in planes too :) )Paul
  8. Sorry for the extremely late reply here, but I only got FS2004 in December.I have built FS2004 scenery with 3DCanvas, I have also managed to get a working biplane into FS2004.http://amabilis.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f...131#76110445131...I also wrote a plugin to export directly to Trainz...http://amabilis.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f...44710503711/p/1
