  1. Is a stock GTX970 really better than a GTX780 for around £250? For flight sim wouldn't the main advantage be the 4GB VRAM? Right now I'm very temped to go for that GTX780Ti if there's a further price drop.
  2. If I went for the reference GX780 I think I'd always be thinking about the GTX780Ti: 210.6GT/s vs 160.5GT/s texture fill rate = +31% 336GB/s vs 288.4GB/s memory bandwidth = +17% But is it worth £90 more??? The more I look at the EVGA GTX780 Classified the more I like their SC edition! A GTX780 over £300 just doesn't make sense to me.
  3. I'm seeing a pretty big price drops on the GTX780Ti. Here's my options, what's the best deal? EVGA GTX780 3GB Classified 2304 CUDA cores 993MHz (1046MHz boost) 3GB 384bit GDDR5 6008MHz 190.6GT/s texture fill rate 288.4GB/s memory bandwidth ACX Cooler £342 Reference GTX780Ti 3GB 2884 CUDA cores 875MHz (928MHz boost) 3GB 384bit GDDR5 7008MHz 210.6GT/s texture fill rate 336GB/s memory bandwidth Titan Cooler £299 EVGA GTX780 3GB FTW 2304 CUDA cores 980MHz (1033MHz boost) 3GB 384bit GDDR5 6008MHz 188.1GT/s texture fill rate 288.4GB/s memory bandwidth ACX Cooler £268 Reference GTX780 3GB 2304 CUDA cores 863MHz (900MHz boost) 3GB 384bit GDDR5 6008MHz 160.5GT/s texture fill rate 288.4GB/s memory bandwidth Titan Cooler £203
  4. Right now I'm seeing prices for non-OC GTX780s as low as about £227! It's becoming very difficult to justify spending over £300 on a GTX780 (unless it's got 6GB VRAM) given that GTX970s are starting at around £250. The EVGA Classified that I was looking at is still way over £300.
  5. OK my brain us melting here! I don't have the budget for a 6BG GTX780 even with the price drops right now. I'm leaning very much towards the GTX780, my thinking being that if I find that I need more memory then I'd be better off going for a GTX970 in the future rather than getting a 4GB GTX770 now.
  6. Well I'm certainly keeping an eye on the prices of GTX7## series cards given that the GTX9## are on the scene. Perhaps around £350 is the most I want to spend on a GPU. I'm really not one for grabbing the latest and greatest new PC hardware ASAP! I prefer to wait and get a better deal. Anyway I'm not ruling anything out.
  7. Hey thanks for the "heads up". This might be useful for those following this tread.
  8. In case anyone's wondering, no I still haven't made my mind up! Although I'm not rushing as this will be for my new i7-4790K build. Right now I'm considering: EVGA GTX770 4GB Classified 1536 CUDA cores 1150MHz (1202MHz boost) 4GB 256bit GDDR5 7010MHz 147.2GT/s texture fill rate 224.32GB/s memory bandwidth ACX Cooler £318.99 EVGA GTX780 3GB SC 2304 CUDA cores 941MHz (993MHz boost) 3GB 384bit GDDR5 6008MHz 180.6GT/s texture fill rate 288.38GB/s memory bandwidth Titan Cooler £328.99 Perhaps the GTX780 will be a better match for a i7-4790K? Can anyone offer an objective opinion re the texture fill rate and memory bandwidth of these GPUs?
  9. I think they try to factor in ageing of electrical components, but it's only meant to be a *guide*. How did you measure your wattage by the way???
  10. Perhaps I should have asked are there any brands to avoid at under £50?
  11. The nVidia data sheet for the GTX480 says: Directx 11 (does not say 11.2) OpenGL 4.0 (does not say 4.5) HDMI 1.4a Displayport 1.1a How does that compatibility compare top the GTX6## and GTX7## series cards? Any major drawbacks in terms of compatibility?
  12. I currently have a Corsair TX series PSU in my main PC, I'd heard about the CX series but also come across mixed opinions. I'd prefer something a little cheaper. Would Seasonic be your #2 manufacturer to consider? What bout CiT PSUs?
  13. What resolution were you running at? Were you running max settings or a compromise? I'm not so interested in running max visual settings as I'm more into systems, e.g. I'll be running FF777 in X-Plane.
  14. I'm putting together some old LGA775 Core2Duo PCs to use as slave PCs in a sim network setup. Depending on the graphics card that I use, from a more efficient GTX750 to an older power hungry GTX480 (yes I know it also depends on the amperage on the 12V rail), eXtreme Power Supply Calculator gives me the following wattage ranges for PSUs: E8500 ~3.8GHz (OC) 348W - 590W E8400 3GHz 318W - 560W So I'm looking for PSUs rated 400W - 650W. Any suggestions for budget PSUs under £50?
  15. Still mourning by old GTX285 friend... we went though a lot together :( ! I'm planning a new i7-4790K build with GTX7## card. However I want to keep my Q9650 LGA775 PCIe v2 PC for use in a networked PC sim. Would a GTX480 for £80 be a good deal? I realise that there are far more energy efficient cards that offer the same performance, but for £80 I'd really be looking at a 1GB GTX750 PCIe v3 which is still outperformed by the old 1.5GB GTX480 PCIe v2 card.
  16. Hey sounds fine to me! Thanks for your thoughts. Now what the heck do I do LOL !!! I think in the end it comes down to what my multi display setup will be, but I haven't decided on that yet! I've been collecting old PCs with the intention of some clandestine sim using networked PCs and multiple views. Can anyone give me an example of VRAM use with X-Plane 10 spanned across three monitors running at 5760x1080? I am leaning back towards the GTX770 4GB.
  17. Sorry I got the coolers mixed up! The GTX770 has the ACX cooler. I'm very tempted to go for that GTX780, I just don't want to find GPU throttling at factory OC due to temps on that GTX780 with the Titan cooler. EVGA GTX770 1536 CUDA cores 1111-1163MHz 4GB 256 bit 7010MHz VRAM ACX cooler 142.2GT/s texture fill rate 224.32GB/s memory bandwidth £318.78 EVGA GTX780 2304 CUDA cores 941-993MHz 3GB 384bit 6008MHz VRAM Titan cooler 180.6GT/s texture fill rate 288.38GB/s memory bandwidth £328.99
  18. I've been following the development of PSX over the last few months. As a systems fanatic I think it's one of the best simulations of any modern airliner out there - e.g. the circuit breaker panel )). Plus there isn't the kind of b*** ***t marketing techniques used by some other developers on their support forum! Unfortunately since there are, apparently, no plans for PSX to include the 748 in the future, I'm more interested in the 777 or other fly-by-wire airliners. But is is very tempting!
  19. Starting to creep towards the GTX280! Which is the better deal: EVGA GTX770 1536 CUDA cores 1111-1163MHz 4GB 256 bit 7010MHz VRAM Titan cooler 142.2GT/s texture fill rate 224.32GB/s memory bandwidth £318.78 EVGA GTX780 2304 CUDA cores 941-993MHz 3GB 384bit 6008MHz VRAM ACX cooler 180.6GT/s texture fill rate 288.38GB/s memory bandwidth £328.99
  20. Anybody care to recommend OC GTX770s (2 or 4GB)? Top of my list are currently the EVGA cards. Because I'm not interested in OC the card myself, I'm interested in: Factory OC Value for money Warranty
  21. Well another reason to consider the 4GB version - I will check out the graphics requirements for P3D, I'm just not sure it's worth the extra £100! I see that the EVGA cards have either their ACX or Titan cooler (which I believe exhausts the warm air out the end of the card rather than into the case), any thoughts on which wold be better for a non-SLI setup? For those of you with a GTX770 how are you finding the temps before you do any OC yourself?
  22. Thanks a lot. I am considering various multi display configurations with networked PCs. Have you ever tried multi monitor setups with your GTX770? Do the FF777 and FF757 have options for 2D panels or some other configuration for multi display setups, or is it VC only? I couldn't find that info on the FF website.
  23. Can you give me an example using X-Plane where you are seeing an improvement with that extra 2GB? What's the highest VRAM in use you're seeing in X-plane? Also, I looked up your system specs and I see you have FF777 and FF757 which are both addons I intend to get. Have you seen improvements with those addons and your GTX770?
  24. I am really not convinced that at resolutions under 1920x1080 and a 256bit memory bandwidth, the extra 2GB of VRAM on the GTX770 OC cards is going to be useful! Can someone provide any evidence that X-Plane or FSX would ever access more than 2GB VRAM? I've been browsing GTX770 cards and since I'm not planning to OC my graphics card I don't need advanced OC features. Top of my are EVGA cards, unless anyone has any better suggestions?
