  1. Hi Damian, Jim,once again a few remarks on those WINDS ALOFT :I did a couple of flights and found out that always when I hit the North American continent the winds go crasy ...Yesterday EDDT - KMIA - perfect winds ( accdg. to navlog ) until 5750N, between TAFFY and HTO the forecast called for round about 260/60 but AS6 gave first windspeeds up to 120 kts and later the wind starts swinging around the compass rose at 120 kts and forced the speed of the a/c from stick-shaker to Mach .97 : STRUCTUAL DAMAGE !!Supp.range at 225 nm !Karl, Berlin
  2. I am 68 and a retired airliner ( ground jobs ) and I don't feel "OLD"...I sim just for fun , mainly flight planning and fuel management - I don't want to learn flying anymore . . . Karl, Berlin
  3. Hi Damian, thanks for all your attention - here two new reports :( Supp.range at 200 )1. Yesterday KSAN-KBOS - at FL 390 wind swung around the compass rose and speed went all the way between 0 and 120 kts - forecast was at 75 to 95 kts - a/c speed went down to stick shaker and up to 90ties of Mach ! So I interrupted the flight ...2. Today GCRR( Canary Islands ) - EDDT - perfect forecasts and smooth transitions of the wind - sometimes from 320 degrees to 180 with windspeeds of 60 kts with no major speed changes !I use a unreg. version of FSUIPC ( 3.7 )- in any case if you recommend I'll buy it for FSX ...Kind regards from BerlinKarl
  4. Hi Jim,here now a report of yesterdays flight - I never kept exact wind readings before...Route : KSFO-KBOS 747-400 FL 390 EET 04:21 .pln import into ASv6 : 1300 ZT/O : 14:22 zWind readings : First fig. ASv& pln / sec. Fig. ACT ASv6LIN 297/097 sameMVA 296/077 298/0431526 TCH 258/055 268/030-045 was on the way to TCH for a longer period 226/058OCS 248/053 237/0471609 BFF 243/068 233/073 1632 ONL 235/065 225/0571658 MCW 231/063 230/0601722 BAE 227/104 232/073ECK 255/120 249/0751757 YXU 260/120 286/075From here to TOD the wind shifts started to swing around from 120 to 300 degrees with speeds from ZERO to 100 kts in a matter of seconds !!Shortly after TOD at 32000 ft the wind was even more eractic and the speed went up and down ( econ desc. at m.86 ) and finally the flight was interrupted due "STRUCTUAL DAMAGE " ( I never had this before - roughly 500 hrs in the logbook ! )You mentionned RL flight planning - thats what I did in the first 20 yrs of my 40+ years in aviation - we used FORECASTS ! I believe ASv6 uses spot winds, which are obsolete after a few hours. Especially if you plan a LONG-HAUL flight with 10+ hrs it is better to use forecasts and leave the work to the pilots ...I don't know if you can implement forecasts into ASv6 - USAFE OWS is a good source in the net ! Can be reached via www.baseops.deFinally I must say that the service for the FS community is excellent and I appreciate it very much.Karl, BerlinEdit : YES, I use FSUIPC !
  5. Hi Jim, I use the USAFE charts only to compare the winds Karl,Berlin
  6. Hi Jim,NO forced conditions - supp ceiling was 10000, now increased to 40000range was and is 50 nm.Will chk new settings soon and let you know.Sometimes I also use USAFE wind charts, which are somewhat different from your wind values ...Karl, Berlin
  7. When I plan a flight I import a pln into AsV6 about 1 hr before dep and use the winds aloft from Nav Log for my fuel calculation ( my own excel tool ) - but during flight those winds are sometimes completely different - either the wind velocity is wrong ( or different ) from what AsV6 gave one to two hours ago or the wind direction is completely off, so the calculated flight times between the waypoints are wrong. On yesterdays flight from EDDT to KPHX between GEP and LBF ( 434 NM ) the Nav log gave me a wind component of MINUS 89 - actual w/c was PLUS 12 !!Does AsV6 use different sources for planning and online winds ?Any ideas appreciated ....Karl, Berlin
  8. I closed ASV6 and started again and everything was fine ....Karl, Berlin
  9. Say again after good morning ....Its all working ok now !Karl, Berlin
  10. Cannot load todays wx - all whats coming up is yesterdays wx .... ??Any clue ?Karl, Berlin

    FSX

FSX on sale since today here in BerlinKarl,Berlin
  12. A couple of years ago Air Berlin made a delivery flight with 738 from KBFI to EDDT - I believe no seats, no nothing - just 2 pilots - and after BIKF one reclearance after another . . .Karl, Berlin
  13. I cannot answer any further replies since I am out of town for the next 3 weeks !Karl, Berlin
  14. Hi Mats and George,I had a complete crash and formatted all drives - theninstalled XP plus all patchesinstalled a seperate partition for FLIGHTSIMinstalled FS9 plus patchesinstalled PMDG 737-800/900 from boxed version ( Aerosoft )w/o patch ( it was not nec )installed PMDG 747-400 via internet plus update VR1installed AS6 plus update to build 503Everything works fine except the saving of panel state . . . By the way the above installation is exactly what I had before - except the seperate partition.I had about 10 approaches saved - all Berlin airports and some other in Europe plus 31L at JFK - all for 737 and 747Karl, Berlin
  15. After reinstallation of FS9 and PMDG 737 and 747 I cannot save ANY panel states neither with the FS9 function nor with PMDG panel state saver - I like to save several approaches to different airports from TOD for practice - but the saved flights have no active route in the FMC, speedbug is at 013 (!!) kts, heading is always 000 and altitude is somewhere between 50000 and 2500 ft , descending at 10000 ft/min !!Do I have to adjust some settings in either FS9 or PMDG ?Before reinstallation everything was perfect . . . Karl, Berlin

    Saving panels

Hi Mats, after further checks I found out that if I start FS9 BEFORE AS6 all saved flights will work after a few adjustments !Karl, Berlin

    Saving panels

Hi, as mentionned in another post, it won't work since a few days. Neither in PMDG nor in the FS9 ...Can it be that AS6 has something to do with it ? I am a new user with AS6 and since then I have the problem.I saved quite a lot of cold and dark positions at several airports - of course without AS6 and they all work fine when I load them. All airborne savings will not work since a few days . . .Karl, Berlin
  18. Hi,had the same a couple of months ago - never again. I did not install ANY malfunctions, it just happened ! Probably a software bug, as I said it NEVER happened again.I just lowered the gear ( three green lights ) and made a overweight landing . . .Karl, Berlin
  19. Gentlemen and ladies ( ?? )I saved a couple of flights - always one saving at TOD and another for the specific runway ( both for 737 and 747 ) - and it worked fine . . . until yesterday :-mad I cannot load ANY flight - FMC dead, speed bug ZERO and so on . . .I did not foul around with the computer, no defrag etc !Any explanations ??ThanksKarl, Berlin
  20. @steveSo, I am back in town again - have been in GLA ( with a real aircraft . . .)No I tried only once - as I mentionned before I never was near to fill her up . . . will ckeck on this further.Karl,Berlin
  21. Tom,no it was way below MTOW - some 45K - Karl, Berlin
  22. Another thought :Is it possible that the outside temperature at DXB ( 41 C ) will influence the fuel tank capacity ? If so, another top point for the quality of the PMDG products . . . Karl,Berlin
  23. I checked the search function, but found no suitable answer.Question : in the PMDG manual it states MAX Fuel capacity is 386.000 lbs.I never reached the need to fill her up but on a recent flight from DXB to SYD I need for taxi full tanks - on the fuel page I had a surprise : Max fuel only 382.800 lbs !Who is wrong - the manual or my program ?thanksKarl, Berlin
  24. Just in case somebody is interested :The formula for windcomponent for winds aloft is:WC = Windcomponent = -68WS = Windspeed i.e. 75 ktsWD = Winddirection i.e. 300TR = Track or heading i.e. 275WC = WS X Cos((WD-180)-TR)X (PI/180)Karl,Berlin
  25. Hi,I could not find any forum for my question - I'll try here. Its most probably quite simple but anyway :I am looking for a formula to calculate the windcomponent for my flight planning project, I found a formula through Google but this will not work.Windspeed X cos( winddirection - track ) will produce funny results . . .Any ideas ?Karl from sunny ( and hot ) Berlin
