  1. hello,i am back after a few days of vacation. i did some flying before i left and unfortunately, the artifacts were back. worst, my desktop wallpaper disappeared, some programs do not open, and paying videos sometimes crashes. i also encountered some BSoDs.so i have no choice but to call a technician in upon my return. diagnosis : virus. but i also showed him the games, so he thought that there could be some error from reading through my video card. his suggestion, to relocate the card to a different pci slot. initally, my gpu was located at pci-16 2, no it's moved to pci-16 1. if that fails, then i have a broken vga.after reformating the system drive and moving the card, everything seems fine. so i guess, it's more of the virus that affected my system.
  2. i did play starcraft (just to test it) but there was no problem. i tried call of duty 4 (my cousin plays this one, not me) and this one had really very heavy artifacts. my computer even freezes.i was planning to call on a technician next week as i am travelling on vacation this week, thankfully, i didn't jump into the idea of calling one today. after so much frustration looking for a solution, i stumbled on one site of some advise on how to cool down my gpu because i think this could be a problem. i found this great program that can control your fan speeds and even monitor the health of all your devices. it's called fanspeed from http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php. and i think this has helped. after configuring it, i played the game without a hitch. everything looks good, i got all my clouds 100% full and in 3dimensiion, my terrain is in the highest setting, traffic is 100% and so far, no artifacts.i have to do some test play again tomorrow to just be sure. i just hope this is the solution.thanks again for the replies.regards.LL
  3. i have updated the latest driver to my gpu, i don't overclock my gpu or cpu.i did some search on video artifacts but somehow, i cannot find a way to underclock my gpu, just to test if it works. nvidia has compiled it's control panel into one window and there is no clock frequency option there anymore. tried riva tuner but it does not display my gpu in the custom option. so i guess i have no choice but to bring this in to a computer technician.just keeping my fingers crossed as they can be expensive and don't want to spend for another gpu when this one is not even one year old.really appreciate everyone's advise.

  5. i just got this computer last march. so everything is fairly new. i opened the case and everything looks clean. although i have overclocking, i don't overclock my gpu because i have good fps anyway.here is a shot of my gpu while playingbesides, if it overheats, i'm supposed to get a warning from my mobo right?with regards to artifacts, not sure what this means and how do i go about it. same with if my gpu overheats, is there a solution?sorry, am not so techie.
  6. i have been using fs for years now and never encountered this problem. but today, all of a sudden, when i played fs9, i notice a lot of flickering on my screen. the red information text on top is distorted and i begin to see strange bitmaps appearing everywhere. sometimes, the entire cockpit view would be like a screen shot of an entire bitmap file of the aircraft. i am not sure if this is a hardware problem, but all my other programs seems to work fine. i tried updating my drivers, defrag my computer, cleaning registries but the problem persists.here are some screenshots of the game. here, the bitmaps are showing around the plane body here, changed the scene to day time here, changed aircraft to default aircraft cessna, notice the dashboard is just black here, notice lower left on the ground, some bitmaps of the aircraft replaced the ground texture well, same thing happening to the water changed aircraft to 748. everything just got weirder after a while, things got back to normal but the red information text on upper left have gone mad finally, though some portions of the text returned, there are still black blocks.after quitting the game, that's when my monitor starts to show weird issues as well.corei7gigabyte x58-ud7corsair 2gigx3 ramnvdia geforce 460 gtx seany ideas??hope to hear some response. thanks.LL
  7. i have posted this earlier but later noticed that it was in the wrong forum so i hope this is the proper forum for this.i have upgraded to a new sytem from pentium 4 to core i7; a totally new system, including the case.my problem is, after installing everything, i became muted.i can hear everything, the ai traffic, other pilots, etc. but my atc window is blank when i am supposed to speak and there are no voices supposed to be coming from me.for example:atc window displays 1] request clearance; so i press 1 to request clearance. then, i get an empty atc window and no voice (although all other sounds continue. after a while, the ATC responds appropriately to my request and the ATC window displays the words it is speaking. the ATC window displays all other conversations except mine.any solution to this?i did not have this problem with my pentium 4 cpu, is it related?thanks.

  9. hi ronzie,thanks for your reply.i am runnung fs9 (updated)with windows XP.i have the same addons as with the pentium 4.i don't see advdisplay.dll in my modules folder.my system is:core i7-950MB gigabyte ga-x58a-ud7vga evga gyx 460 TI 1G SEmemory 2Gx3 g.skill ripjawswhat does RC really mean? where can i find the RC options?
  10. i'm curious if you have tried using taxiway E1 on this scenery (taxiway to get to runway 19R). there is something invisible there that crashes the user plane.

  12. there are already plenty of third party addons (both payware and shareware) that are way better than fs in improving the visuals.why not better intelligence for AI and better logic for ATC/ground.1. better pushback. should be up to the apron taxiway. not just pushback a few metres and have a 747 or any plane make a 180 degree turn at the apron? ridiculous!2. have traffic stop when a planes is pushebacked or delay pushback when there's a plane taxiing.3. AI should taxi smoothly on intersection nodes and not jitter ones they touched those nodes.4. Shouldn't planes make a slow turn on instersection? why the jittery and fast turn on intersections.5. why do small planes hold short just at the tail of a heavy jet? can't they stop farther apart.6. why hold short a plane in the middle of the runway when it is crossing a runway? just because it's center of gravity hasn't crossed the runway line, doesn't mean it's nose or body is not on the runway.7. use of taxiway should be whoever is the nearest, not whoever got the assignment first. the first plane may still be 3 km away, but the 2nd plane is just 10 metres away.8. restrict the use of the apron-taxiway and use the actual taxiways instead. isn't the taxiway designed the way it is because there is no obstruction or parked planes around it, then why have planes use the apron-taxiway when they can use the unobstructed taxiway. 9. aircraft weight should adhere to restrictions and limitations. a 747 is assigned to land on a grass runway when there's a concrete ils runway? at the same time, a cessna is assigned to the concrete runway?10. aren't narrow taxiways narrow because they have obstructions nearby? why make a wide-bodied aircraft use them?11. why are turbo-props faster than a jet on approach. they can literally overtake you on approach.12.i'd like to see holding pattern for arriving aircraft. first one in, first one out, and that includes user aircraft.13. in the tropics, trees and grass don't really go that brown. majority is still green.14. can we not have a runway that has two ends instead of a one end runway?15. change in wind direction should also make atc change the active runway end.16. the ability to remove default airports that way, if a designer needs to lower the airport altitude, the default runway don't show up.17 runways that conform to the terrain elevation, meaning sloping runways and not FLAT.18. flat roads and rivers especially along mounntainsides and slopes.19. isn't a straight line the shortest way from point A to point B. then why the zig zag taxiway assignments on taxiing to runway or to parking.20. shouldn't be that the assigned runway be the nearest threshold and not the nearest runway. just because a runway is nearby doesn't mean it's active end is also nearby. 21. ATC to strictly follow closed runway ends. if it's closed for take-off then it should be. if it's closed for landings, then that should be the case. but for FS it's not really the case.

Has anyone notice that AIs actually have the same approach speeds? a piper, a cessna, a baron, dash, etc. these small planes are actually faster than a user 747 during cleared approach. and the thing is, ATC has this sneaky trick of letting them cut you off during approach. so even if you are 9NM apart, when they are cleared to land, their speed suddenly jumps to the slowest speed that by the time you are cleared to land they are still making their finals and you end up going around. if they are even 2NM away from you at the cleared approach path you'll have a hard time overtaking them and surely, they'll get ATC clearance before you do.is there a way to control their cleared approach speeds from the aircraft.cfg file?i also notice, because i have TCAS all the time, i set the range to 24NM during expect approach and as i near the clear approach, the sky looks empty. as soon as i have all the approach for myself (that's what i thought), there would be a jet behind me easily overtaking me and getting the landing clearance just seconds before i get them. so annoying!well if there's going to be an FS11, i am asking this Microsoft people to improve the system rather than the visuals.suggestion for that, ATC should only speak "cleared approach" once every 60 seconds. once spoken to one plane, ATC will automatically send the next incoming plane to a holding pattern. first plane in, first plane out of holding pattern.also with "cleared to land" it should only be spoken by ATC in 60 second time frame.
  14. i just got nick light fix v2 and i still get solid triangle lights. how do you install this light system? or did i miss anythign in the installation? i just did what the read me instructed.
  15. oh that's weird. yesterday, after 10 attempts to open the afcad i get "error in decompiling the bgl". but today, it just opened without a hitch. thanks! btw, i am more on the creative side of scenery design and don't know much, probably anything, regarding the mathematical portion of it. you mentioned about adding exclusions and writing approach codes. i am tweaking around and found the exclusions but there is no option to exclude approaches. and how do you write approach codes (i assume it's on the XML file but which part and what codes?). is there a tutorial on this, can't find it on the net? also in ADE. my runways, start locations have errors in their altitude but the altitude setting is grayed out. anyway t make the altitude box editable?thanks.
  16. hi thanks, i already got the 2 runways running using the star method. from the sound of it, the issue i raised seems impossible for fs9. with ADE's latest version though, i get an error when opening afcad bgl files. is there a process to open files created by afcad? i just don't want to redo the whole afcad thing, but i would like to try my luck in ADE. maybe i could figure out something from there.
  17. hi,is it possible in fs9 to have 2 (almost) perpendicular runways where one runway has either ends active depending on wind condition: but the other runway can only have one active end no matter the wind condition?i tried closing one end of the other runway but when wind conditions shifts, although all AIs don't use the other end, they use the other runway which is quite a distance to taxi and causes a lot of disappearing planes because of holds when plenty of AIs are arriving / departing due to facing traffic.
  18. hi thanks, unfortunately, my search did not seem to get any keyword matches.although i was able to find another solution from another forum by simply changing the particles from 19 to 25.indeed, the controller will only work if the emitter is set to 0, but that would result to a very solid white spotlight.i think i can be happy with the spotlights appearing 10km away.thanks again.
  19. i have done my research and have gone through a lot of forums regarding the issue of apron lighting. as what i understand, having the emitter set at 0.00 will show apron/ramp light effect when you start FS more than 10km from the airport but with this, you get a very solid and very bright effect from a very far distance. so the other solution is to create a controller. my question is, how exactly do you make a controller?-is this also an .fx file?-should this reside inside the effects folder?-what filename should you give this file?here's a sample of my controller-----------------------------[Library Effect] Lifetime=5 Version=2.00 Radius=200Priority=0 [controller.0]lifetime=0.0, 0.0 type=3 distance=5000.00, 5000.00delay=10000000.00, 10000000.00x offset=0.00, 0.00 y offset=0.00, 0.00 z offset=0.00, 0.00effect.0=fx_apronlight, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00-------------------------------------------------------------------------i saved it as apronlightcontroller.fx and placed it inside the effects folder.but still, my apron lights disappear when i start away from the airport and does not show when i arrive at the airport. but it shows if i start my fs inside/near the airport. did i do something wrong in the process?
  20. i just spent the whole day retesting the scenery. unfortunately, found out that even using the 777 also has the bleeding. i tried doing an afcad ground but the bleeding is worst. with top down view the taxiway and aprons don't show. you have to be around 100 ft above ground to see it and as you descend, the grass begins to bleed through. does this mean the area is not really flat. i am redoing this scenery and in my older versions i did not have such problems.
  21. my flatten is now only FSTflatten. i have rid of fssc flat (area16N, AFD.bgl, and LWM flat), but i still have LWM flats outise the airport area to create a smooth slope because the default scenery makes cliff-like slopes.i tried using the 777 and the bleeds disappear. so, any recommendation as to what freeware is best to use for ground polygons for fs9?thanks
  22. hi everyone,i am doing a scenery and i have this annoying polygon bleeds that is driving me crazy. the scenery includes a landclass which i did using sbuilder. the ground (taxiways, runways and aprons) are done in fssc. when i create bgl file, all seems normal. but when i start fs9 somewhere outside the airport range and arrive at the airport, the grass bleeds through the polygons.i have done several methods to correct the problem:1. made sure that the flatten are is correct.-this did not solve the problem.2. simplified the polygon shapes.-still did not solve the problem.3. removed the AFD.bgl file (it is created along with the Area16N.bgl file)-did not solve the problem.4. tried the process of elimination to find if any file is causing it.-this only drives me in circles and did not solve the problem.5. used FSTflatten program instead of sbuilder or fssc flatten.-still did not solve the problem.the weird thing is, the bleeding only occurs if i start someplace and arrive at the scenery. if i start at the scenery, everything is fine (although i notice that shadows flicker (or disappear in some areas and these areas happen to be where bleeding occurs).so my theories are:1. is there a conflict between sbuilder and fssc that may cause the bleeding?2. or is it my installation of fs that's causing the problem (am i missing some files).3. or could be the height (cockpit view because on spot plane view, the bleeding has disappeared) of the aircraft i am on? 4. something else which i may not be aware of?hope someone can help me find a way to correct this.thanks

  24. hi jim,thank you so much. this is actually the first time i understood the process. although i must say, i got lost on the part of recompiling all the tweaked mdl files back to bgl and assigning it a new GUID. correct me if i am wrong but the process of recompiling to bgl, based from what i read, is to create an xml file (similar to the one you sent) and in that assigning any value i can think of for GUID. then drop the xml file to bglcomp for conversion to bgl file? when i do this, there should only be one instance of xml and one instance of mdl file existing inside the bglcomp folder, else, it will not know which mdl file i am referring to? which brings me to another question if i may ask: each model or object i tweaked has to have a single xml file for recompiling or i can use one xml file for all mdl files? from what i understand is that you can only have one instance of the textures for runway 12 objects in your system else, all instance of an object in any scenery installed using the object would appear untextured (?).i must say i am impressed with your familiarity with the library objects. i never mentioned a vehicle and yet, based on the GUID code i gave, you sent me a sample of a car. : )lowil
  25. hi jim,basically i am just adding extra objects to a scenery. these are rwy12 objects. there was one forum where somebody mentioned about adding some code to the property of an effect thereby controlling it's visibility range, but i could not find it anymore. i thought i could also try that with objects. major reason why i am doing this is i don't have the patience and the time to recreate these objects on my own; and to minimize the framerate hits. some of the objects are hidden behind buildings and are only visible once you go around it so it makes sense to have it "invisible" when it's not visible at all. or objects like trees where from a distance, i could only show several instances and they would only populate when you are very near.i could not find what i am looking for with the link you provided, although there are plenty of interesting stuff. thanks.
