  1. Sorry for all the questions... Have you noticed blocks of autogen popping up in the distance instead of a smooth transition. For me, I noticed chunks of autogen populating in squares. I've never seen this before so I don't know how to fix it.
  2. I eventually capped my frames at 45. Also, are you using the texture size tweak? I fiddled with it at level 10. I don't know if I'll keep it though. If LM can get the dynamic lighting under control, then this set up is perfect I think.
  3. Doubled the performance for me in every situation except for dynamic lighting.
  4. Now we have 2 confirmed cases of the 8700k apparently living up to its reputation. @tooting What performance are you seeing with Dynamic lighting enabled. Its hit or miss for me. It depends on which scenery I am using. Sometimes its great, other times it drops below 20fps and isn't that smooth.
  5. I guess I misunderstood you. My apologies. Correct me if I'm wrong... The SSDs don't really play into actual performance fps wise nor would they on stuttering right? I figured they would only help in initial loading and maybe prevent against blurry ground textures. However, I could totally be wrong. As for a new OS? I used the same version of w10 but I agree that the overall performance would be snappier because it's a fresh install. However, would it truly help with actual performance? i would assume not. I never took an interest in benchmarking nor have I ever wanted to do a write up before. I'm not as knowledgeable as Rob A. is on this subject. Excuse my ignorance and feel free to educate me!
  6. Thanks for the kind words. I've been simming since I was 8 and thst was 20 years ago. I know you are seriously contemplating an upgrade from your 2700k. I hope you really consider my experience. You won't regret it!
  7. Someone above me quoted what I had said in an earlier thread. I stand my my subjective opinion. To be fair, I decided to build a whole brand new system. Here's some food for thought. I play ghost recon wildlands quite a bit. I played it with my 1080ti at 4k on my 2700k at 4.8ghz. I played it last night on my 1080 ti at 4k on my 8700k at 5.0ghz. I saw no increase in performance whatsoever. The cpu utilization topped out at 30%. Hardware canucks used games like wildlands to shape that a new CPU is not going to do anything. They are right!!! For games like wildlands.....which is how most games use the gpu and cpu today. Now for p3d v4. I saw doubled performance figures in EVERY scenario except when dynamic lighting was activated and ON for both the airport and airplane. My cpu utilization for p3d v4 was around 70 to 85%. Meaning that p3d is not like most games these days and the hardware canucks video is irrelevant to p3d. Say what you will but the fact that your comfortable with 22-30fps just means thst you are so used to it thst you have settled. When someone like me who upgraded their machine to the 8700k see those fps as unacceptable because I'm getting 40-60 fps in most situations. If dynamic lighting would be more efficient, I woukd consider my new set up the perfect p3d set up. Obviously some will disagree.... Hell! I noticed a significant improvement in Train Sim world because of the new processor. I remember a scenario thst once I hooked up my locomotive to a set of about 50 or so cars, my fps yanked with my 2700k because did all the physics computations it had to do. Now, there is not a drop in fps which means the 8700k is a much different beast. I wish you could come over to my place and see for yourself!!!! Anywho, go enjoy flying. It seems most of us get caught up in the nitty gritty these days and forget while we are in this hobby.
  8. That write up wasn't at all supposed to be a scientific method which compared the two set ups. The thread was explicitly titled "my upgrade experience." Meaning it was just that. My experience. Some things had to change with the new CPU. Like RAM AND THE motherboard. Csnt get around that. At the end of the day, I do agree thst it wasn't an apples to apples comparison. It never was meant to be. I just wanted to show the performance gains thst I saw upgrading my pc. Most people on these forums are going to be naysayers and say thst the 8700k doesn't do anything for p3d v4. If you have a 7700k. Probably so. However for someone who has a 2nd generation or even 3rd generation i7...i don't understand how someone wouldn't see an improvement. Look at the guy 2 posts above yours....he said he tripled performance in a specific scenario he has used before. I would love to throw my old hard drive in the new computer and fire up p3d v3. If I could I would.....i actually might try that to see if it will even boot to the old drive.
  9. The 8700k tanked at FlyTampa's EHAM. I had to drop the autogen levels way down for any real performance on par with other add on airports.
  10. For those of you inquiring as to why I didn't take pictures with my old set up first, it's because I didn't even think about doing something like this until I saw the performance gains. Because of this and because i only have one power supply, I'm unable to move said power supply back to my old pc. Also, two things.... Someone mentioned that it isn't a real comparison and more of a personal experience. The thread title explains just that. I also explained that it wasn't a scientific method of a benchmark. The whole idea was to see how my brand new rig performed straight out of the box and for anyone else to compare their set up with what my pictures showed by going into THEIR own p3d set up and changing their settings to match mine and see how they compare to mine under the same situation. I honestly didn't think I would have to provide before and after pictures when my idea was for each person to individually compare their current set up to mine. Sorry if this is causing headaches for some. I just wanted the community to see what the 8700k was capable of because it's so hard to get one right now and no one has given any feedback whatsoever.
  11. Yeah you're absolutely right. I went into pens nrocal configurwtoe and turned off the new night lights option and performance went up to about 30fps and was still perfectly smooth. For what it's worth. Fyi...to be honest...i was a little frustrated with thst scenario.
  12. Very well could have been. That being said, I realized that I didn't specify thst I had never used v4 on my old system. Only v3. That may have made a big difference. Just out of curiosity, for those people who habe a 2600k or 2700k and are using p3d v4, are they getting the same performance as I am in these pictures? If so, that's so cool!
  13. It's late and I'm tired.... My set up is super smooth. I was just saying that with my high fps along with how smooth it is....when it does drop down to lower fps (on par with what my old rig was only capable of)....it shows how much of an improvement this new rig is from my old one. I was comparing old vs. New performance. I really hope this makes sense. All I can tell you is that I don't have any stuttering when I use v sync along with triple buffering. It's really really really nice! Like I said, I'm really tired so im.sorry if this didn't help.
  14. I can select and deselect dynamic lighting in their new control panel software. I figured because I could do that....it was indeed SFO v2. hhhmmmm ill have to check then,
  15. I don't know to be honest. I had not used p3d v4 until I built this PC. I only used p3d v3 on my old one. On my old machine, I couldn't get past 33-35 fps unless I was in cruise. My new build paired with the upgrade to p3d v4 got me back into p3d. All I am saying is that I have literally doubled performance. That's just my set up though. Maybe my old PC was on its last leg and I didn't realize it. Maybe P3d v4 would have given me the same experience on my old 2700k. I hope my report helps those on the fence about upgrading to the 8700k and are currently using a CPU like the 2700k.
  16. I had the i7-2700k paired with the 1080Ti. If you are coming from p3d v3 and decide to upgrade to p3d v4...like I did...I doubled performance in most scenarios. To the point to where when my FPS drop back to my old mid 20s levels due to certain lighting and what not....it really feels like a huge performance degradation.
  17. does it work with p3d v4? I used it for version 3 and it was pretty cool. Also, one has to have already purchased another product in order to supply the airplane models correct?
  18. I do have MT6....is it v4 compatible? I am quickly finding out how much of a pain it is to realize that not everything was made 64 bit compatible. I am VERY curious to see what AI traffic does. Also, Ill run the same things with dynamic lights turned off in the sim. The only issue is that if dynamic lights are disabled, then PMDG airplanes wont have lights.....period. That's all I have installed right now.
  19. I dont...i apologize. I only had one powers supply so I took it from my old computer and moved it to the new one. I figured people with these older processors already had an idea of what performance they are already getting with their current rig.
  20. For those of you who want to know how my 8700k upgrade went....check out my write up.
