  1. Depending on which TIR software verssion you have it is either F7 or F8 that gives U "precision" mode which means a more steady and slower tracking of your head position,ie less jerky. I believe it is important to have True view disabled when using TIR but double check with the set up instructions in EZDok.Alex Chung
  2. Steve,Make sure you assign click buttons for the FMC,OH,MCP and centerpedestal as well as throttle quadrant. Next turn OFF all the DHM and head shake movements for these views so that you can have a steady view while clicking with the mouse. Only use the the DHM and other shake effects for the pilot and copilot views as those are the ones that matter when you take off, land etc and want to experince those effects. Don't forget to press F7 to make things smoother and more precise. I have a Saitek yoke and throttle and have assigned the thumb pan toggle switch such that when I toggle left, I get the pilot view(with head shake),toggle right, copilot view with headshake, toggle forward for OH panel(No head shake),toggle down, FMC(no head shake) and all this is done in the VC. I have other buttons I use to get the pedestal and TQ views as well.I do all my preflight with these rock steady views and use the mouse quite easily. I also set the MCP view with no head shake so that I can change the altitude, speed, VNAV etc without having to keep my pointer steady while dealing with head shake. Finally, use the PTP button for ALL your in VC views and you will find that you "float" smoothly from one preset VC view to the other. Hope this helps. I wouldn't fly without it now.Alex Chung
  3. Duh! Thanks Zach, that was it. I selected low res VC model. Thanks again.Alex Chung
  4. Doesn't matter, no VG with or without eyebrows. Do you have VGs in you SP1 NGX?Alex Chung
  5. Dear PMDG staff,Have the vortex generators on the nose been removed from SP1? I used a special EZDok view to see them from inside the cockpit as seen in this video I posted a few weeks back(visible fairly early on at 0:05). Anyone else noticed they are gone or is it just me? Alex Chung
  6. Yes,I have the same question, RSR said to uninstall then install the base package that I bought but I cannot find the base package and when I sign into my account for the base package it says link expired!Does this mean I have to buy the base package again!! I want a clean install as RSR recommended before applying SP1 but that seems impossible. Where did the original base package go that I originally bought? I cant find it anywhere on my computer(Downloads section, Documents and settings etc) For that matter I cannot find the original installer for the 747-400 either! PMDG please help. All my other installers that I download go to my downloads folder and they are all there. Is there a self destruct function on PMDG installers that makes them miraculously dissolve after a certain amt of time?Alexander Chung
  7. I have Windows XP/32 SP3,FSX SP 2, quad core Phenom II OC'd at 3.9, 8800GT akimbo Nvidia GFX card,4 GB DDR3 RAM, UT2,GEX,REX HD, Track IR, EZDok, Bojote's autotweaks and this is what I get with the NGX at Flytampa's Kai Tak. Alex Chung
  8. All the women on that album have stunning talent and are all pretty easy on the eyes too! Alex C
  9. Posted this on the PMDG NGX forum too. Enjoy. At 2;30 there is a pretty neat head shake effect from EZ DOK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QsMIv4_-bHk Alex Chung
  10. No secret really. I only have a 512 MB GFX card and am running XP on 4 GB RAM and have autogen on Normal and Scenery complexity on Dense. I use UT2 and REX HD optimized 1024 textures. When I fly I place a premium on smoothness and I spent 3 weeks tweaking everything till I got the smoothest experience and then stopped. That was 1 year ago. I think a quad core OC'd to 3.9 goes a lot further on XP than on Vista or W7 but that's just a hunch. I also fly with Track IR and EZ Dok and set the tracking in Track IR to "smooth" so it all adds up. Lets also not forget what a quantum leap in simming the PMDG NGX is. To get this plane to be this complex AND this smooth is a true testament to the coding prowess of all those who work at PMDG. Kudos to RSR,Tabs and all at PMDG! My sentiments exactly, Darryl. Cheers! Alex Chung
  11. Thanks all for those kind comments. Nic, my rig is very middling as you can see but it does a great job for me and the NGX: Phenom II Deneb edition quad core OC to 3.9, NVIDIA 8800GT Akimbo GFX card, Windows XP SP3, MA785GMT MB, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 300 GB 7200 rpm HD, 750 Watt PS and 22 inch screen. I tweaked with Bojote's auto tweaker and went for smoothness rather than FPS counting. I use FS recorder and edit and render with Vegas Pro and thats it! Alex Chung
  12. Jay,Dennis, Michiels and Noah, Thanks you guys. Please call me Alex, I am just a simmer like all of you on this forum. The song is "The Soft Goodbye" from Celtic women(Track # 15). Go to iTunes to get it, nice little song innit? Isn't it funny how people of different backgrounds and professions can come together in the enjoyment of this thing/obsession we call a hobby!
  13. Was doing touch and goes for hours a few nights ago and my wife was listening to music as I was doing this. Heard this song and thought it conveyed the feeling I got from flying this great plane. I work as a surgeon and simming is a complete escape for me.I just can't stop smiling every time I fly her!Check out the head shake effects at 2:30, saw it once on a real recording of a 747 landing at St. Maarten with the pilot's handycam shoved up against the canopy. Enjoy. Alex Chung
  14. Can't remember offhand. Will have to check once I get back to my rig. Thanks Alex Chung
  15. For those of you who want something a little mellow. Not too bad for a middling rig: AMD Phenom II Deneb @ 3.99, air cooled, NVIDIA 8800 GT Akimbo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 32 bit XP OS, EZDok, UT2, Track IR and REX. I can't get over how smooth PMDG made this bird! Alex Chung
  16. Here's my newest video on the NGX. Keep in mind I have a middling rig at best but I am pretty happy with the results. It is remarkable that PMDG have been able to engineer this bird to give such smooth results even on my low end rig: AMD Phenom II Deneb @ 3.99 air cooled, 4 GB DDR 3 RAM, NVIDIA 8800 GT Akimbo(512) card and 32 bit XP OS, EZDok, Track IR, UT2 & REX. Thanks PMDG! Alex Chung
  17. Also if you are enabling Fail Operational mode,CMD will only come on and allow LAND 3 if you select the Flaps 35 VREF+5(not FLAPS 40) in the CDU and apply that speed to the MCP. Alex Chung
  18. It has this annoying wandering from side to side especially with heavy winds and can't semm to hold a steady flight path. Alex C
  19. Now I am getting confused AGAIN. Nowhere in RSR's update did he mention to install hot fix #1 AND #2. My question to PMDG is, if I did not install the first hotfix(2916 released on 8-15), do I have to install both or just the 2nd one(2922 released today)? Alex Chung
  20. Dear PMDG, Just wanted to thank you for this awesome add on. After years of having products hyped and then becoming disappointed with them on release, it is soooooo nice to have a rock solid product that does almost anything that you ask of it just the way it is supposed to. Sure, it has its little niggles and hiccups but good Lord,...the aircraft performs so well so much of the time and the systems are just incredible! To top it all off, the smoothness of the simulation is second to none(even on my middling rig). I have just figured out the HGS runway overlay thingy and completed a short flight in IFR and peasoup conditions at night without a hitch! I didn't see anything outside my cockpit except the runway at the origin and the runway at the destination!!! The plane flew the 45 min flight plan and profile without a hitch, respected all altitude and speed restrictions and the AIII annunciated/assisted landing was out of this world! I still can't get over how accurately the runway overlay works! Anyways, enough ranting. Good job guys and thanks a million! The best $70 I have ever spent on this sickness I call a hobby. p/s the best part is I know I haven't even begun to discover all the intricacies that this baby has to offer because I haven't spent enough time exploring the manuals completely yet! Alex Chung
  21. I am no expert but if you have correctly input the rwy length and elevation and GS into the HCP and pressed enter,I would make sure both your FDs are on, the airport altitude is set correctly in the overhead panel, both the pilot and copilot NAV radios are tuned to the correct ils freq, you have activated the ils on the CDU ARR page correctly, the CRS is set to the correct value for the ILS runway and the "mode" on th HCP is in "PRI" mode and the "STDBY" is in "AIII..arm" mode. Once you have captured the LOC and GS, the "AIII.. arm" should switch to "AIII" and the runway overlay should show up at 300AGL. Make sure you are close to VREF and have full flaps as you approach the threshold....maybe it wont show if you are coming in too fast. Good luck. Alex C
  22. By the way guys, where is the TOGA button, it used to be a screw on the 747400 but when I press the screw on the NGX I hear a click but nothing happens. Alex Chung
  23. Has anyone compared the two? I have the Virtavia version but it does not have any wingflex. Is there even a 3D cockpit in the Area 51 version? The Area 51 version was released recently to very little fanfare and I would not have known it was out until I saw repaints for it on AVSIMs main page! Alex C edit:Sorry just found the other topic a few pages back. Just one question remains: any wingflex in A51 version?
