FSX Blurry Ground Textures & Affinity Mask not working properly
I was browsing the fspilot shop today and found FSX Extreme Booster V2. It was only $12 so I bought it but haven't had much time to tinker with it. Is it a worthwhile program to tweak FSX based on my system specs.

OK so if I've got this correct when creating the .bat file doe the addition resources to run do I select them all as A8 for 168 affinity in the directory line. Many thanks, Chris

FSX Blurry Ground Textures & Affinity Mask not working properly
The 4790K is a quad core processor. So I have 4 cores with HT on so 4 cores/4 threads. So in my windows task manager I see usage across all cores and threads. When I was running with AM=84 there was a little usage on CPU1 & the rest spread between CPU3, 5 & 7 (which are my threads am I mistaken?). So how does the .bat file work as I also have flight recording software that's also running aswell as fs real time. So I would need to setup real time, weather program & the flight recorder in the .bat file to keep them off 0. So how would I configure that would I just create a text document with the install location of each program and then the code to prevent it using core 0 and then save as a batch file. A bit new to this (batch files) so not 100% sure.

FSX Blurry Ground Textures & Affinity Mask not working properly
Ok so I understand this correct, I have a Quad Core CPU, so your saying to leave AM out of the config, and start addons using a .bat file. I use rex texture direct to load the weather textures and start Flight Sim from there. I then use FSGRW (FS Global Real Weather) as my weather engine. I have 4 Core HT on. Thanks,

OK thanks so I should set AM=116. I have 4 cores and 4 threads.

FSX Blurry Ground Textures & Affinity Mask not working properly
So I have deleted the additional video card entries. It would appear that the textures are not crisp when taking off from an airport or looking at mountains on the ground at an airport when the weather is clear skies. I don't have High Definition monitors I run at 1680x1050 resolution. Would that have any effect on this? I have the i7 4790k which runs at 4.4ghz. With AM=84 set in the FSX.cfg when I open the FSX process in task manager and right click affinity, all cores are still ticked but only 3 cores/threads are being utilized and I would have thought if AM 84 I supposed to use 2/3/5 for example then that's what would be being used. The config I have copied in, was taken from a YouTube post of someone with a lesser spec system than mine getting great results. I have just now taken out there video card entries as pointed out here. Would be really nice if I could get sharp crisp textures.

Whoops I can delete the GTX 780 out as I'm using 1 GTX 970. My CPU is a 4790K @4.4ghz.

FSX Blurry Ground Textures & Affinity Mask not working properly
Hi Folks, I've been trying to tweak my FSX recent to try and minimize the blurry distant ground textures. I have just updated my graphics drivers, to the latest from nvidia and that helped with the anti-aliasing but not the ground textures. I have affinity mask 84 set in config, but whenever i start FSX it's selected to use all the cores. https://www.dropbox.com/s/apvt0mnqqqhpd05/FSX%20Affinity%20%26%20CPU%20Usage.jpg?dl=0 Here is the processor tab showing the CPU usage across the cores: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0nefusct1f89fik/FSX%20Processor%20Tab.jpg?dl=0 Here is a photo of departure today (this doesn't actually look to bad, but I've used a new config I got from an online guide) https://www.dropbox.com/s/ya0y3276wbk4lpl/FSX%20departure%201.jpg?dl=0 If anyone on these forums could help in assisting me to get the Affinity Mask working correctly, as I have Preapar3D aswell with same AM=84 set and when I open the task manager it's only using 3 CPUs (Admitedly it's using different CPUs to what's selected but at least it doesn't select all Cores) [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 [bufferpools] BP=0 Poolsize=100000 [GRAPHICS] SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672 D3D10=0 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 P3D affinity mask?
Ok thanks for all those good replies. I have disabled AM and am running on all cores and CPU usage hits 60% overall sometimes during flight. Core 1 is now being used 100% before it wasn't and load for the rest of the game is shared across the other cores. Other cores are running about 40-50% usage where as core 1 is at 100%. I will need to see what it like with the ground textures when it's daylight (current flight is a night flight).

P3D affinity mask?
Thank you for your help. I put AM mask of 255 but that just selected all my cores and threads. Ihave manually unchecked Core 0&1 and AMD is running on all the rest. I think I will remove the AM altogether after I finished my current flight and see how the sim performs. My main reason for trying to set this up was to help remove blurry ground textures.

P3D affinity mask?
Hi I know this is an old topic. But was wondering I have an i7-4790k which is quad core with 4 cores 4.4ghz with hyperthreading on. Would an AM of 244 be suitable for my system. Just really confused as I tried to use this calculator: http://www.gatwick-fsg.org.uk/affinitymask.aspx?SubMenuItem=hardware I used the expert mode and selected Logical 0-4 as I have 4 cores & Thread 1-4. It came back with AM mask of 2097 but I believe I've done something wrong as anotherember pointed out that value should be for a 6 Core CPU.

P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
Well that tool that is linked about asks you to use expert mode which asks how many logical cores you have & how many threads. In my case I have a Quad core so I selected Logical 0 thru 4 / Thread 1 thru 4......is that not correct? I will try 116 as I had 84 previously which I don't know where I got that from. On my windows task manager when I right click on P3D>Set Affinity it shows CPU 0-7 but only 3, 5, and 7 are ticked running under affinity mask of 84......will see how 116 goes.

P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
Yes I have HT on but I believe I have worked out the affinity mask wrong as I have just use that tool that was linked earlier and I used the expert mode. Selected that I have 4 logical cores & 4 threads. Gave me an affinity mask of 2047.

P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
As I understand it at the moment P3D is only set to use Core 3 & 4 and Thread 7 with AM setting at 14. I'm curious if that's why I'm seeing blurry ground textures and I also don't have Full HD monitors but that should effect the textures. I will try AM mask calculator you have linked. I read somewhere a while ago that P3D should use core 1 aswell, is this correct.

P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
Ok thanks will have a look. Is the affinity mask even needed in 2.5?
-
P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
How do I correctly set the affinity mask? At the moment I have it set to 14. I have r core and 4 threads. Is there a calculator I can use to calculate correctly so it uses the correct cores.

P3D V2.5 High CPU usage when loading flight
Hi folks, Haven't posted in a very long time. Was wanting to know is it normal for my CPU usage to hit 65-75% usage on the loading of a flight? I have a 4790K 4.4ghz, an EVGA GTX 970 For The Win. I used the affinity mask setting to only run p3d on 3 cores and I have been putting up with blurry ground textures. I believe P3D is still very CPU intensive and I'm reading the usage of the 4 cores from Realtemp when loading into a flight. Can anyone help me with some settings I should try especially to remove blurry ground textures. Thanks

FSX Freezes after clean install of FSX & Windows 7
I would just like to update everyone as I have solved my FSX & P3D freezing. The issue was related to 2 things. 1) A faulty graphics card (which is now replaced) 2) the EVGA precision X software was another cause. Uninstalled this after installing new graphics card and haven't had any crashes. Apparently the latest version of the provision x software which was just released the day I got my new card fixes all the previous freezing problems but I haven't reinstalled it. So thanks for all your help. I've marked this as solved.

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
So an update. I have no addons installed into FSX and fsx is installed into x:program files (x86) flight simulator x. I copied the contents from FSX DVDS and Acceleration DVD to my external hard drive and ran the setup file as admin from there. I have deleted and rebuilt the FSX.cfg file but still my crash report is for the ui.dll but I have no addons installed into FSX apart from fsuipc and fs real time. I did a test today and noticed that if Ieun fsx in full screen mode which blacks out my 2nd monitor it runs fine. I can then press alt and enter to go into windows mode and it loose the top of the window so I can't press the red x at the top of the window to exit flight sim I have to kill process. I have never ever had so many problems with FSX since I bought it in 2010. And I've had to reinstall it quite a few times. I've got ms visual c++ 2005,2008,2008 sp1, 2010 2012 & 2013 installed. For some reason when I try to install 2005 sp1 it installs but I still only have 1 entry for c++ 2005 in Add/Remove programs. I've also got .net 2.0, 3.5,4.5,4.5.1,4.5.2 and all security updates for it. I decided to try my luck with prepar3d and it installed fine took some time, I can actually fly with it as long as I don't minimize the main p3d window to browse the internet or do other things. If I open them ontop p3d continues running normally but the moment I minimize and then try to restore the window it loads the last view frozen but same as FSX I can hear the sound changing as I cycle through views but view remains on the frozen view. I'm at a complete loss as to what's wrong. I'm 100% sure I installed windows correctly but this time around straight after installing windows I manually downloaded from Microsoft website and install Service Pack 1 for windows 7. Not having any problems with windows itself that's normal it just flight sim. I'm almost regretting upgrading my computer now as before everything was fine. Just FYI I have the power saving feature enabled on my EVGA Supernova power supply and am running an EVGA GTX 970 ftw. Hoping I can get both FSX and prepar3d running properly.

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Hi Steve, I have FSX installed into x program files/Microsoft games. This time around I installed FSX buy right click on the setup file on the DVD through windows explorer and going run as administrator & also turned off antivirus. I loaded the simulator & after a few minutes of flying around with default helicopter it froze but I could still here sound as if I were changing through views. I'm going to try some different graphics drivers as I think these may be the cause. I was ran a sfc/scannow which didn't show any errors.

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Hi Jim, So it turns out my freezing is not fixed. Just loaded up to do a flight in the aerosoft Airbus and same freeze happened about 2 minutes into the game. This time the faulting module was ui.dll. Bit of a loss what to do now.

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Ok thanks Jim, do you think it would be a good idea for me to run a repair with antivirus turned off? Question how do you run the install as administrator (my account is an administrator) but when running off the DVD you can't right click and say run as administrator. So even though I'm the only user on my.pc and under accounts it shows just me as administrator there are still those other ones you have pointed out.
-
FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Hi Jim, I am the only user on my pc and my account type is administrator. UAC is disabled (pulled the bar right to the.bottom to never notify), the only thing I didn't do is disable my nod32 antivirus. I never thought the my actual discs could be dirty, that could be worth cleaning them and do you think it may be worthwhile doing a repair of FSX & Acceleration once I've cleaned the discs and disabled antivirus. Cheers

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Hi Jim, Thanks for your quick response. I was told that the freezes may be caused by the CPU voltage being too low. I increased the CPU voltage and it didn't make a difference about 10 mins into flying the sim froze. The freeze was that I could still here sound changing when I pressed the views button, but the view was frozen. I shutdown FSX and put the uiautomation core dll into the main FSX folder restarted FSX and flew around trying every possible thing from pausing/un pausing, menu clicks, changing views and minimizing and expending FSX window so I could still use internet etc.....and no freezing. Gonna test it more in depth tomorrow, but that's when I got the CTD error on exiting FSX not that I was too worried as the sim was working but would be nice to iron out any bugs. Also why is it that when installing FSX off the DVDs it gets stuck at removing applications for 5 minutes then continues the install? Same with Acceleration pack it gets stuck on updating component registration. I saw another member tried extracting the setup files to the hard drive and then running install as administrator and that fixed their problem, but how would that work coz you have to insert a 2nd DVD normally so when it gets to that stage does it just find the files in the folder you've extracted them to?

FSX Freeze Fixed, But CTD on exit module mfc90.dll
Hi Jim, Thanks for the quick response. I think I may have the faulting module wrong as this is a fresh install of FSX with Acceleration with no addons tweaks.....I was going off memory for the CTD error. I will test again and come back with the correct faulting module. Also from what you've said about the uiautomation core dll its strange that it fixed my freezing issue but it has. Also with the Microsoft Visuals I believe I have C++ 2005 installer i think which installed with FSX, but I don't think I have SP1 for 2005 with it. I'm a little confused though do I need the 32 Bit versions of 2005 & 2008 and service packs or both 64 and 32 Bit? Thanks, Chris
