  1. Hello,I just tried both methods. The one suggested by Col Scott worked, the second method didn't, but maybe I made a mistake somewhere. The file you need to edit is the first mdl file in the model folder.Kind regards,Ren
  2. Maybe Rafal should answer that as he has apparently discovered them more often. As far as Manchester is concerned it's both the charts and the AIRAC.Regards,Ren
  3. Rafal wrote that he will bring the subject up in the Navigraph forum. Apart from that I have made two attempts to send them a message, but both attemps failed. Any suggestions?
  4. @Paul: I thought it would be wise to follow your advice and brought everything back into the original state. I don't intend to touch it any more. Again, your help is very much appreciated.@jvile01: Thanks for the additional explanation. This issue makes me think of changing light bulbs in my car. A decade or so ago I would stop at a petrol station to buy a new bulb, changed it and continued my journey. Nowadays I make an appointment with the dealer. :( Kind regards,Ren
  5. I based my initial post on Navigraph data (current airport charts as well as AIRAC), which I assumed to be correct. Meanwhile I discovered that the UK aeronautical information service (NATS UK) indeed mentiones 108.90. So it seems that the problem lies in the Navigraph data rather than in the UK2000 scenery, although it is at least surprising that Navigraph would make such a mistake. Fact remains that the non-compliance between the widely used Navigraph data and the scenery may create (already has created) confusion. As far as changing an airport file with AFCAD is concerned: I was not aware of the wisdom brought forward by ronzie and psolk and I'm grateful for their posts. I did not have difficulties though in opening the particular EGCC file with AFCAD (filename starts with AF2) and making changes, such as removing double nodes and correcting missing links. But I should also add that after changing the file ATC behaves strangely in assigning approaches, e.g. giving instructions for a visual approach for rwy 23R . Can't imagine what the relation is with the changes I've made. :( Regards,Ren
  6. Hi Ray,Not yet. I first tried to bring it up in the UK2000 forum, but I need to register, which apparently may take up to 48 hrs.Regards,Ren
  7. Hello all,Just to prevent frustrating situations during approaches, especially when flying on-line, I thought I'd share this: The ILS frequency for runway 05R, which comes with the fantastic Manchester Xtreme scenery (108.90), is not correct. Up to date maps and AIRAC cycles show 111.55 as the right frequency. Thanks to good old AFCAD (or ADE) this can be solved within seconds...Regards,Ren
  8. In addition: Have checked the behaviour of the autoland status during a short flight. Yellow 'no autoland' light is on during cockpit preparation and extinguishes as soon as the engines have been started. Light comes up again after shutting down engines. Guess this is how it should be. As far as I know the autoland feature is fully automatic, and does not have to be enabled separately. You might do an extra check as to whether the FMC programming has been completed correctly.Just a thought: Did you download the service pack (1.3)? It might be a 'glitch' that has been fixed with this update.Regards,Ren
  9. Hello Luke,As a fellow PSS 757 user I'll try to help you. First: Be aware that autotuning of the ILS can be switched on/off via the setup/settings screen (when in the cockpit hit Shift 6 or 2nd clickspot from left on the lower edge of the screen). Second: Be aware that the PSS aircraft comes with a completely outdated NAV database. So you may find an ILS frequency in the FMC (init ref page) but that may be an old one. Then you get the 'ILS dots' - as the frequency is recognized as a 'typical' ILS frequency - but not the needles. Solutions: Get an up to date NAV data base from www.navdata.at (payware) OR make sure that you have the correct ILS frequency before the flight and tune it manually (with the course) in the windows on the left side of the master control panel. As far as the autoland issue is concerned I'm afraid I don't know what causes the mishap at your end. I haven't come across this problem. Will try to do a search in my 757 though, and let you know when I find a possible cause.Kind regards,Ren
  10. Hello,I use AlacrityPC, but do not download weather from within FS9 (using Active Sky). Nevertheless an attempt to help you. In the profile you've created, look under the 'services' tab and check whether you have disabled 'Network connections', 'Network DDE', 'Network DDE DSDM' (in fact any service which has anything to do with your internet connection. By the way: When you select an item in the list and move the cursor over it, an explanation is given as to what happens if you disable the item; that would make fault finding not too difficult.Good luck!Ren
  11. Thanks for the explanation KJ. I'll give it a try.Ren
  12. Hi all,It seems that this discussion is somewhat suffering from a language problem and as far as I'm concerned from insufficient computer knowledge. For me it is still not entirely clear what the tool does exactly. I understand that it performs an action automatically, which the clever 'CPU tweakers' among us previously executed manually. Never heard of this type of tweaking before. I have a dual core AMD Athlon (with an optimizer running in the background) and have always assumed that FS would use both cores. Do I understand it correctly that tweaking the CPU (either with the task manager or with this new tool) forces FS to use both cores, thus increasing performance?Kind regards,Ren
  13. Hello everyone,To whom it may concern: Airsimmer has released its first update for the Airbus, keeping its promise to do so before the end of the year (access via TabletPC). Have not tried the new version yet, but from experience posted on their forum it seemes that another service pack will have to follow in due course...Happy holidays,Ren
  14. @ Gatesession: I'm not sure whether I fully understand the question. I'm not much of a 'nightflyer' in the first place and haven't done any nightflying with the REX water textures. If you refer to Real Environment Pro water: Cannot remember to have seen that, but then I rarely fly with a clear sky....Regards,Ren
  15. Hello,Here are my 5 cents... REXfs9 is the newest member of my environment family, consisting of Active Sky 6.5, GE Pro II and Real Evironment Pro, the freeware forerunner of REX, coming from the same 'stable' I think. For clouds I thusfar used the excellent cumulus/cirrus by Pablo Diaz. REX is indeed a spectacular enhancement, especially the clouds. Moreover it is absolutely stunning, as Les already mentioned somewhere, that it is also a performance boost, even with clouds in full HD and without DXT3 checked, and all that on my 'humble' system. I agree with Mad Dog that the water is too blue for European conditions, so I replaced the water textures with the ones from the Real Evironment Pro package (dark water with nice cloud reflections and subtle wave movement).Having tried Les' preferences, I find 'Realistic' for the sky colour more suitable for the (North) Western European situation than True Blue. As for the cumulus setting: For the time being I prefer '02', which very well reflects weather conditions in my part of the world, certainly in this season.Kind regards,Ren
  16. Further on the taxi speed: I understand that I should remove the sim1.dll file. Have'nt tried it yet. Anyway on the EICAS I see that after enigine start (throttles closed) N1 reads 51% and N2 72% !. Not surprising that the aircraft starts running. Since no one else seems to have this problem, I'll have to sort out whether I'm doing something wrong here or maybe there is a calibration problem.... :( Regards,Ren
  17. Hello Bruce,Thanks for your reaction. Yes, I do have the sim1.dll installed...Regards,Ren
  18. Hello all,After the conversion of the VC textures to DX3 (thanks again Les) and a subsequent flight, the conclusion is that the performance in terms of fps is much better, but the rapid variations and the stutters remain, admittedly with a slight improvement. As far as Davids question is concerned: I don't notice any deterioration of the quality. I was considering to convert other textures as well (now that I have had some good training with the conversion program :( ), but reading here that the gauges may also be part of the problem, I think I'll put the bird in the hangar for a while, awaiting developments.By the way, one other thing nobody has mentioned as far as I know: The airbus starts rolling as soon as the parking brake is released and picks up speed very quickly. So the brakes have to be applied continuously during taxy. A bit odd, but I can live with that.Regards,Rene
  19. Hello Les,Thank you very much indeed for your swift reaction and help. I'll let you know what the result is. By the way, you must have had an early morning on this saturday :( .Have a nice weekend.Ren
  20. Hello all,In my opinion this a/c looks very good and works fine. The only problem I have with it so far is its rather 'stuttery' behaviour, especially when taxying, but also in turns in the air. I'm aware that my rig is not high end (AMD Athlon 3200+, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900GS), but other complex aircraft like LDS767, PMDG737 and Wilco's Airbus run very smoothly on it, with fps well above 25 (sliders set to medium or high, GE pro and Active Sky installed). The AS airbus shows rapid and large variations in fps, ranging between 10 and 35 within split seconds, causing miniature stutters. As I expected, shutting down autogen and pulling some other sliders back improved minimum fps, however the stutters remain, taking away a lot of the joy of operating this airbus. Maybe I just have to accept that this product is a number too advanced for my equipment.Kind regards,Ren
  21. Hello,For texture cleaning I would recommend 'find_all_duplicates_v2.4.zip' by Gerard Durand. It's in the Avsim library.Regards,Ren
  22. Hello everyone,Over the past few years I've been flying the Wilco Airbus (mainly A320), generally with much satisfaction (apart from the odd sudden engagement of the TOGA lock). What keeps me puzzled is the approach speed of this bird. The relevant page in the FCDU shows the VAPP, generally around 134 kts. One would assume that this is a calculated (advisory) speed, based on weight, wind data, temperature etc. However, when I use this speed on finals, it often appears too low. If on the other hand this speed is to be regarded as a reference speed, to which 50% of the head wind component should be added, the speed on finals frequently seems a bit too high. I would very much appreciate any comments/'wisdom' on this subject.Regards,Ren
  23. Dallyborr, thank you very much for your advice, I will certainly try this trick.Regards,Ren
  24. Hello,Like many of my peer FS enthousiasts I am constantly on the look out for improvements of the FS world (FS9 in my case). That's why I already have add-ons like Active Sky and Ground Environment Pro installed. FS Elemental seemed to belong to that category and the price of about 10 Euro's did not stop me from checking. The result (in my opinion): Their clouds are absolutely impressive. However, a number of other features I can easily do without, like the sudden blue colouring of my Airbus panel. What I found really annoying is the change of the water colour, which turned into a deep blue, almost purple, probably suitable for the Australian environment, but certainly not for Europe. I tried to exchange the water textures with the excellent textures of Peter Wilding (FSWater), dating back as far as 2004, but that did'nt help. I do not understand why the developers did not provide a simple user interface in which we are offered a choice as to which features should be turned on or off.Regards,Ren
  25. Hello James,You need a program to connect to VATSIM, file flightplans, speek online etc. I think the most popular one is Squawkbox, but there are others. Squawkbox comes with very good manual. What you absolutely must do before attempting a flight under VATSIM, is working yourself through the lessons which you find on the VATSIM website, under Pilot Resource Center. One of these lessons deals with the language, expressions etc. to speak to ATC.Although I've made some ten flights under VATSIM, I'm still a newbie too, so I know what you're going through, but it is very much worth the effort.Wish you succes!Kind regards,Ren
