PROBLEM DESCRIPTION I evidently have two problems with the operation of my FSX. The first I have been dealing with for over a year. My computer is about 5 or 6 years old, but it was designed and built specifically for the FSX program. I originally had the Gold Version with Acceleration. When it was installed, following tweaking, it performed for four years without any problems at all. I have aircraft only from Carenado and Alabeo and scenery only from ORBX. Then, apparently for no reason at all, it began locking up my computer after even a short flight. I would begin a free flight either from a saved flight or just from the startup page. I would fly without any problems for between 10 minutes and 30 minutes then all of a sudden, the program would lock up the computer with only a constant annoying sound remaining. Each time, I would have to press the reset button to get the use of the computer back. No blue screen - just the last image of the flight and nothing else. This happened every time I used the program. I asked around the forums but was unable to solve the problem. Then finally, after hearing about the new Steam Edition, I decided to start over from the beginning. I stripped the old FSX-Gold version and installed FSX-SE following the directions outlined in Steam's "Transitioning from Boxed FSX to FSX:SE Parts 1 and 2. There is only one installation of the program on my computer. Everything worked great for the first few months then all of a sudden, the same problem started up again. There seemed to be no reason for this - no new aircraft or scenery installed, it just started doing the same thing - locking up my computer. Then, it dawned on me that I did install a new printer prior to this happening again. And it was a wireless printer. I then thought that perhaps the cause of the lock up was due to the computer and the printer "communicating" thus disrupting the program. So I hard-wired the printer to the computer using a usb cable. And for the first time in many months the problem was solved. I could fly any length flights and no lockup - I felt so smart. I had solved the problem. I had intended to go back to the forums telling them to beware of the wireless printer problem. Well, this worked for a good while, then again, for no apparent reason, the problem started up again. This time I turned the printer off completely, but still no change - on every flight, the computer locked up again. Since I have an older video card, I reverted to a very early driver, which was recommended to me by someone on the forums. This seemed to help, but still the problem continues. So, at my wits end, I am finally using AVSIM's FSX Crash-To-Desktop-Guide, even though I'm not having a CTD, but rather a lock-up of the computer forcing me to reboot. Now, before this lock-up problem most recently reappeared, I had another problem and so far, it has only happened on a flight from Juneau to Haines, in Alaska. I've tried this flight three times and each time, as I'm setting up my approach into Haines Airport, the program is interrupted with the message "Failed to Read from File". When I clicked on the 'close' button the following was revealed "Runtime error (then the path to the FSX-SE program) followed by 'R6025', followed by "pure virtual function call". Thus far it only happed at the Haines airport, but then the first problem appeared again before I had a chance to experiment with eliminating sceneries and testing - testing - testing. I understand that this is a 'windows' problem, but I haven't found a resolution to it. I opened a service ticket on Steam regarding this "failed to read" problem and did follow their direction to "test the local files". When I did this, as directed, it revealed that "8338 files failed to validate and will be reacquired - current content build ID 1070054". On June 21, 2016, I tried the program again to see if there was any improvement. I began a flight from a saved position, again in SE Alaska and flew west. After flying for approximately 25 minutes, same thing, except this time and for the first time, it did not just lock up the computer, it took me to a BSOD with the following message: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode. Collecting data for crash dump +++ Initializing disk for crash dump +++" I just hit the reset button and rebooted the machine. Now, prior to this latest crash, the only change to the FSX-SE program was the "reacquiring of the 8338 files automatically performed by Steam during the 'validation of files process'. No other software or hardware were added or removed. Now, just one other piece of the puzzle. Since I wrote this, I've made a half dozen flights in areas using only the default scenery - except I do have FTX Global and Global Vector and the FTX tree enhancement, which each impact the default scenery. Each of these flights was in excess of 2 hours and never a problem with either the computer locking up or the "can't read from file" error. In addition to this Problem Report, I have also attached my Computer Specifications, the List of Crashes from AppCrashView and the AppCrashView report for the crash, on June 19th, which locked up the computer just prior to the crash giving me the blue screen of death on the 21st. Strangely enough, I ran another AppCrashView following the june 21, BSOD crash and nothing was recorded in ACV. I also have the Windows Event Viewer Overview and Summary as well as the Blue Screen View Report. I'm an older guy and have been flying FS since the old FS5 days and it's one of the only things I do for enjoyment, so resolving this is pretty important to me and I would be forever grateful for a solution to this long standing problem. OK, Now, I have only FSX Gold version installed together with a lot of add ons. I've decided to delete the boxed version and install the steam version. would you recommend also uninstalling all my aircraft and scenery? then loading them back in one by one. - so in essence starting completely over from the beginning. Hello, I've read the definitive guide to the Orbx products and it was helpful. currently I have FSX gold edition and have ultimate terrain, UTX-US, Alaska and Canada; all of the regional scenery packs and numerous airports, mostly in the NA part of the world and a number of FSGenesis landclass software titles. I will soon be upgrading to the Steam edition of FSX and will reload all my a/c and scenery. I was wondering if this would be the time to upgrade the scenery to FTX Global and all its parts. I generally don't fly outside of these areas but perhaps I would if the scenery with Global was that much better than the default. Can I still use the regional scenery packs and the airports I currently own? Would the Global products negate the necessity to install the UTX products? Is Global a vast improvement over UTX? (UTX is pretty old - i'm guessing it must be). How about the FSGenesis - would that be necessary to reinstall with Global? I also have read that there are a myriad of freeware airports supported by Global, true? Trust there is no problem with the Steam edition supporting all of the FTX products. Just wondering, since I've lost 2 hard drives over the last several years and have had to reload all my FS stuff and it taking 2-3 months to do so - Does anyone use Carbonite or another on line backup program? how does it work for you - is it a simple reload back onto a new HD? I have all my FS stuff on a separate drive, but there are still plenty of things that end up on my main drive. so even when just the main drive went down, I still had to reload everything. Any ideas? Thanks Joe, Sorry for my thick head. I guess my main question is: it seems to me I originally had the words "Add On Scenery" as an entry in the scenery library. I deleted that entry by mistake. By deleting that entry in the scenery library have I negated all those scenery files in the FSX\Add On Scenery folder? If so, How do I reinsert the words "Add On Scenery" within the Scenery Library? Does this make any sense? each of the 8 or so folders in the FSX\Add On Scenery folder - most of which are FSG mesh, does have a 'scenery' sub-folder. Are they loaded automatically into FSX when it starts up by virtue of their being within the 'Add On Scenery" folder - even if the words "Add On Scenery" do not exist in the scenery library? Gentlemen, I have a computer which was o'clocked to 3.8Ghz. It worked pretty well with FSX - then my windows 7 became corrupt and had to be reloaded. Not too long after this I saw the 'bsod' and saw the notice that "Overclocking Failed". I confirmed with Belarc that my processor was now back at 2.5Ghz or so. I would like to take it back to the builder and have him reset the o'clock, but I've heard that it will corrupt all my software and I"ve spent weeks already re installing everything. . . Will the software be affected if I have the settings returned to Oclock status? Thanks!! Donn

Hi Guys! I recently had to reinstall all my fs softare and recently noticed that there is no longer a listing for "Addon Scenery" in the scenery library. I don't know how it went missing, but I'm thinking it needs to be in the library in order to 'see' any scenery listed in the "addon scenery" folder. correct? I have a CH Fighterstick and the Throttle quadrant and the CH pedals. I have them all plugged into a hub which comes back and plugs into my cpu. All was well then I had to reinstall the operating system and all my programs. From then on, each time I start FSX, the controllers do not work until I unplug and re plug in the hub into the usb on the cpu. Is there a work around for this - It's no big deal, but its just a bit annoying. Thanks in advance!! Donn

At first it seemed ok for about the first week or so. Then, when I booted up, sometimes the monitor would go right into 'power save mode', and go to sleep directly. Then I had to shut down the system by holding down the cpu's power button. Other times (as I held my breath), it would go into power save mode right away, but then came to life a few seconds later
