  1. Many thanks guys, its pretty clear from the answers that it was a daft question in that 16:9 is not a "magic" HD aspect ratio compared with 16:10, just a sales pitch given to 16:9 aspect ratio. I actually prefer the 16:10 ratio I have on the 22" and if the picture quality is basically the same between 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200, then I might just stick with 16:10. I was fooled by the badging of the 16:9 monitors as Full Hd thinking these were of superior picture quality. Thanks again!
  2. Firstly thanks for the answer and apologies, don't think I made the question very clear. So, just as you said, for the HD 1080p the monitor will be a 16:9 aspect ratio. The question I was trying to ask was just that, if I want full HD quality, does the monitor need to be 16:9? From what I can see on the internet, I can easily buy a 16:10 monitor but they do not seem to be HD. Clearly the HD monitor will be the best solution so if that means 16:9 then no problem at all.
  3. Apologies if this is a daft question, I'm looking to upgrade my monitors to 27" and realised that my current 22" monitors are 16:10 aspect ratio. If I want full HD quality, do I need to go with 16:9 aspect ratio? The 16:9 obviously loses a bit of vertical height but if its the way to get the best quality picture, then I'd be happy to go that route. I plan to go with 1920 x 1080 as I've read if I increase the resolution I will suffer lower frame rates. Thanks!
  4. Gentlemen, Many thanks for your valued input, much appreciated! Just a final question, would you say that based on maintaining the 1920x1080 resolution, will there will be a noticeable reduction in picture quality jumping from 22" to 27"? Maybe very subjective? Thanks, Gary
  5. I'm planning on changing out my 22" monitors for 27". The existing are 1920x1080 and plan the same for the replacements. I've read that resolution higher than 1920x1080 is preferable but comes at a cost to performance. I don't want to compromise on frame rates in any way but feel my overall experience will be greater with the larger monitors. I just want to make sure I don't fall into a trap as I'm not expert on this subject? Also wanted to check there was no issue in mixing monitor sizes? I currently use 3 x 22" in a pyramid configuration with the lower monitors being for VC and External Views and the upper monitor for Active Sky. Don't plan on changing the upper monitor, only the lower 2 but want to make sure there will be no issue with using 2 x 27" and 1 x 22"? Many thanks in advance! Gary
  6. No problem at all for the minor mistake, your updated advice was spot on!! Many thanks!
  7. I've tried using the above format but cannot get it to work. I've entered N5030W01500 into the Legs page and also tried directly in the Route page but no joy, just get "invalid entry". I can insert easier coordinates like 5015N no problem but the coordinates with minutes I'm struggling! Any thoughts??
  8. Fantastic reply, thanks for taking the time. I'm off to get myself organised with Navigraph.
  9. Just wondered what source of navigation Data for the FMS flyers of the 777 are using? I was not too chuffed when programming the FMC with a Flight Plan taken from FSX to get the dreaded "not in database" message to variour waypoints and airways from the FSX generated route. I sometimes source routes from Vataware but often find the same issues with "not in database". What is the best way to get current airways and routes suitable for the T777? Many thanks!
  10. I accept your point that the engine sounds present in the cockpit may not be exactly the same as the front of the passenger cabin, despite the short distance between them. However, whether the recordings are compressed or not, the engine sounds, recorded and available on YouTube, from the forward passenger cabin are very similar to the real thing and knowing that, that was what made me ask the question about the engine sounds. I also have a commercially available cockpit recorded DVD that presents the same engine sounds as those witnessed in the passenger cabin, again hence the question. Not going to be a definitive answer to this one but quite a few of us think the sound is not quite right. However, overall the package is fantastic and unlike others thankfully I have not encountered any issues. Well done PMDG!
  11. First of all let me say that my comments are based on time clocked in the forward passenger cabin ahead of the engines, 4 flights this month and more than 100 over the past 5 years. That is specifically on the 772LR and 77W. I'd also say that the numerous YouTube videos from similar seating positions give a very realistic sound recording based on the actual experience in the forward passenger cabin and neither are similar to the sounds in the Sim. The reason I refer to the forward cabin is that the engine/environment sounds are very different at the rear of the aircraft and also I expected that the sounds from the cockpit would be similar to sitting 15ft behind. However, "Jet Tech" may have come up with the explanation that the engine sounds from the cockpit are very different from that of the front passenger cabin. In my first post on this subject some months ago that is exactly the question I asked but unfortunately there was no reply from guys with cockpit expereince. Thanks also to "Tabs" for the confirmation.
  12. The engine sounds post 55% are not accurate at all. I posted a similar topic just a few days prior to the launch when the beta testing videos were available. I thought the start up sounds and idle to 55% are awesome but it's gone adrift post 55%. I was slated by some of the "defenders of the PMDG realm" which was understandable and encouraged to rethink my position after being in possession of the software. Well, after many weeks of ownership and testing it has to be said that the YouTube video sounds are just the same as on the sim, not accurate at all. Disappointing as the engine sounds on the 777 are incredible. A few of the guys who defended my thoughts described the issue well by explaining there was more growl than whine. However, the growl is more typical on the RR powered 777s but not with the GE engines. Just wondered what the thoughts are on this, especially from users with significant experience flying or as passenger on the 772LR? Is it a limitation of what's possible to recreate within the sim world? Doubt that considering how fantastic a job PMDG have done with the other sounds and the overall package.
  13. Thanks Guys!! Sounds like very good news, Scandanavian13 had me worried there!
  14. Many thanks for that, I think that pretty much confirms it. The overhead was not actually mentioned in any of the posts but I'm assuming that can also be undocked?
  15. Just wondered if similar to the PMDG 747X you have the facility to undock certain panels such as FMC, Throttles, Overhead, Radio, etc? I appreciate that it's an exclusively 3D cockpit but my set-up utilises 3 monitors, one for cockpit view, one for external aircraft view and the third for undocked panels.
  16. Perfectly well put Jesse, better than I managed to in my original post! Yes "growl" vs "whine" covers the point exactly. The reason I asked if any flight crew out there could comment is that I can only compare with cabin environment and maybe only the "growl" can be heard in the cockpit? I find the childish comments quite funny, pity the posts can't be read objectively, however, clearly plenty passion out there for PMDG and the 777! Well done Jesse and moekarout for reading the post in the context it was written!
  17. Have been blown away by the various Beta videos but have a query for the masses on the cockpit engine noise post 55% N1. Based on my considerable experiences at the front end of the cabins, the start up, low rev and engine sounds to 55% are just incredible! However, the engine sounds after 55% are not in line with my experiences, albeit not in the cockpit. Loads of videos on YouTube of real life 772LR with good examples. Just wondered what your thoughts were? It may be the YouTube beta videos on my iPad dont do the sounds justice? Any flight crew with comments on real experience?
  18. Would love to know the answer to this "zig-zag" line problem. I've never had any issues with my FS9 system and running 3 monitors from 2 cards with beautiful lines. It seems I may have automatically upgraded my Nvidia drivers and suddenly have these horrible jagged lines. Running a GTX 285 and a GT9800 with Vista. I've downloaded Inspector but I'm out of my depth really. Is it a question of altering the settings to that shown on the guide? Interestingly I've always had a "zig-zag" problem with my FSX but only after I undock the external view and drag to a secondary monitor. If I look at the external view on the primary monitor then the lines are beautiful! Well...... That was until this driver upgrade..... Or so it seems??? Any help or advice greatly accepted and appreciated!
  19. Having a nightmare with this upgrade! Running Vista with a GTX285 and a 9800GT and my beautiful aircraft and scenery lines have been replaced with horrid zig-zags! I'm using 3 monitors with undocked views spread across. Just wondered if anyone else is having a similar issue? My FS settings confirm that correct resolution for each monitor but the end result is terrible. I've downloaded Nvidia Inspector but don'r really know if overclocking is the right option. The posts above all refer to W7 and W8, could it be a Vista issue? Any help greatly received, holidays approaching fast and currently grounded!
