Future of FSX
Hello all. I'm a RW pilot (1000TT, SEL, MEL, INST, COMM) but have been out of both RW and sim aviation for several years. I just passed my BFR and have checked out in 3 Archers...to be followed by a C172 and next summer a Cirrus SR20. (With a little T206 time mixed in). In addition, I recently moved to Idaho and had NEVER flown in this area before. So, I dusted off my FSX, bought MSE/IDAHO (which is GREAT) and added an Archer and 172 with almost identical panels to what I am checked out in. I have to say that FSX has been INVALUABLE in the process of re-familiarization with guages (especially the Garmin 430). But most beneficial is the GREAT terrain in the MSE package. I've flown from Boise to McCall and Sun Valley several times in FSX and have to say that when I followed up in the real aircraft, I felt as though I had flown those routes before...because I HAVE. Next mission will be to polish up my Instrument skills and procedures and will fly essentially every Approach in this area so when I take my IPC ride it should go pretty smoothly. I guess my point is that I'm not so much a hobbiest or gamer but rather use FSX for the reasons cited above and it has been a GREAT help along those lines. So, thanks to all at AVSIM and the 3rd party developers for keeping this software highly functional. Best, Jim

Is MSE Installed
Hello all. I just got MSE Idaho and had some issues getting it installed (most self-inflicted issues.) I THINK I have it up and running but how can I verify that the MSE scenery is what I'm looking at when I fly??? THANKS! Jim

Returning User Advice
Hi folks. I was once a VERY active flightsim user and member of this forum but I've been away for a few years. I read on another AVSIM forum that basically all new development on MS Flight has been halted. Is that correct? If that is so, it seems a shame since I though a quality "cloud" version would help with the classic "stutters" and other such issues. In any event, I will soon take delivery of a pretty advanced Dell 8500 desktop with 12 gigs of RAM, 3rd Gen Core i7 processor and a premium video card (either a GeForce GT 640/1 gig or Radeon HD 7770/2 Gig. I don't have the specs in front of me but think I went with the 7770) (-: My current version is FSX. Do you think that will be the last of the breed for MSFT and that we'll just have to do the best we can to use it. Are the "stutters" still an issue even with the rig I will be getting? Is it worth messing around with Flight? THANKS in advance for any insights. Best, Jim

CFG settings
I have a laptop with dual graphics adapters. One is "built in" and the other is an ATI add on with more power. Both are referred to in the cfg...[DISPLAY.Device.Intel® HD Graphics.0]Mode=1024x768x32[DISPLAY.Device.ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 .0.0]Mode=1280x720x32[DISPLAY.Device.Intel® HD Graphics.0.0]Mode=1280x720x32The one I want to use is the ATI Mobility. Should I delete the reference to the Intel one? If so, do I just delete the reference or place REM in front of it. It's been a LONG time since I've edited the cfg file. After saving any changes, do I have to reboot?THANKS!!!Jim

Help a Returning Simmer
Hello all. I am returning to simming after a LONG hiatus. Fortunately, my original screen name was still available so some of you old timers might remember me.You could save me a TON of time by responding the the following:1. What is the best DA 40 add on (commercial is fine) in your opinion.2. Ditto re: the best G1000 add on...one that simulates a very high percentage of actual G1000 functionality.I ask because I am a real world pilot and will soon be checking out in a DA 40 with the G1000.THANKS in advance...and I look forward to a dialog with many of you in the future.Regards,Jim
