Hi folks. I was once a VERY active flightsim user and member of this forum but I've been away for a few years.

I read on another AVSIM forum that basically all new development on MS Flight has been halted. Is that correct?

If that is so, it seems a shame since I though a quality "cloud" version would help with the classic "stutters" and other such issues.

In any event, I will soon take delivery of a pretty advanced Dell 8500 desktop with 12 gigs of RAM, 3rd Gen Core i7 processor and a premium video card (either a GeForce GT 640/1 gig or Radeon HD 7770/2 Gig. I don't have the specs in front of me but think I went with the 7770) (-:

My current version is FSX.

Do you think that will be the last of the breed for MSFT and that we'll just have to do the best we can to use it.

Are the "stutters" still an issue even with the rig I will be getting?

Is it worth messing around with Flight?

THANKS in advance for any insights.

Best,

Jim

Yes, no more FSX updates. It works well in a Windows 7, 64bit environment so hopefully that's the OS you are getting. Stutters are still the issue if not properly "tuned". I would recommend Word Not Allowed's Guide pinned at the top of this forum and the Hardware Forum after you install FSX. IMHO, I think FSX works better with the Nvidia video card but others here have successfully used fsx with a Radeon card. ATI was a little slow coming out with proper drivers when FSX was first released and everyone pretty much went to the Nvidia cards as Nvidia had already issued drivers plus display driver settings for FSX.

Is it work messing with Flight? It's free and it does not hurt to try it out at least. I think Microsoft just issued the last update to that flightsim and it will not be devleoped further (or so they say right now).

Best regards,

Jim

True man,

MS Flight is pretty well dead. I believe it failed as a replacement for FSX, and FSX is updated no more. Sad I think, but what else can we say? At least it works (most of the time :P )

FS2004 Forever

Hi Jim,

Welcome back.... While it is true what others have indicated that FSX is now at the end of MS FS development, with no further sims from MS that we know of (I have never used MS Flight, so can't comment), if you just like flying with some really cool aircraft (PMDG has a really cool B737NG, many other nice aircraft) over some nice scenery (watch out for ORBX, they have some really nice stuff, but limited in geographical area), the absence of any future development shouldn't stop a lot of enjoyment. Depends on whether "flying" is your thing, or if you easily get sick and tired of software and need something new to keep you going...

Thanks, Bruce.

True dat! FSX will never EVER die, knowing that it will likely never be replaced unless MS changes. This is because it is the best we have (unless of course Prepar3d takes over or MS comes back). We will always be developing for it to make it as up to date as possible with the ever changing real world, and so far its close. With a good system, NGX, awesome sceneries, and lots of other goodies, FSX is fantastic despite some of its bugs.

A friend of mine that works in the marketing end of microsoft told me that they are working on a new one that will replace fsx but thats all she was allowed to tell. When it will come out, no one knows yet, she did tell me that its way to big of a game to let die.

Are you talking about FLIGHT? If so, it's dead already.

This seems rather shadowy, but I'm kinda supporting the fact that FSX will likely reign supreme in choice if this 'new sim' is released much like FS2004 did for a while after FSX's release.

Not saying that I dont believ

Not saying that I dont believe you or your friend, but as the saying goes, i'll believe it when I see it.

After the last creation called Flight, I wont be holding my breath.

Yeah i'll look forward to it also if/when we get an official announcement. Until then I wont even think about it or get my hopes up.

Like Jim said, I won't hold my breath thanks to Flight, but even in the event that this sim is worthy of FSX replacement and doesn't absolutely melt hardware at high settings, I might still stay with FSX, mainly for the shear number of things developed specifically for it. Not sure and not making any promises though.

A friend of mine that works on the consuming end of Microsoft told me not to believe friends that work on other ends of Microsoft.
