  1. Just like these sarcastic, elitist, condescending comments from certain FSXers toward those who still use and enjoy FS9. Will someone please lock this pointless thread. This horse has been beaten to death for the 5,000th time.
  2. I love the Carenado Christmas Sale. This is the second year in a row that I picked up three aircraft. This year it's the 185 Bush, Seneca, and Caravan that I've added to the hangar. I've only had time to take each around the pattern once, but so far I'm pleased as usual with their products.
  3. After spending another afternoon messing with this, I have come to the conclusion that it is what it is. Paul, thank you so much for your suggested tweaks. Unfortunately I tried them all and none of them seemed to help my case much. What did seem to help a bit however were your settings in Catalyst Control Center. Most simmers seem to prefer Nvidia, so information on ATI settings is in short supply. After applying your numbers in CCC I decreased my zoom to less than 1.0 while in spot view after Rockliffe mentioned zoom level in a previous post. From a few of the responses after I posted my screen shot it doesn't sound like I have it "that bad". I'm satisfied with my investigative efforts to make it look as good as it can, so I am now going to lay down the cfg file and the GPU settings and enjoy flying.......meh, I'm sure I'll be back to tweaking one day :Liar: Thank you all for your suggestions and moral support.
  4. I spent the majority of the morning playing with my video card settings without much luck. AA and AF are now set at 8X in CCC. I even let FS build me a new cfg, but that just made things worse so I returned to the original I was using (the one that contains the settings I posted earlier). For the record I have a very clean system that is defragged regularly, and I have confirmed both the CPU and GPU are running at the advertised clock speeds...I've attached a pic so you can see what I've been dealing with and how similar it is to Rafal's problem. I haven't had a chance to try your latest suggestions yet Paul, but I will as soon as I can and will report back.
  5. Hence my frustration brother. My FPS (and everything else for that matter) are fine, it's just my ground textures at a distance (see Rafal's pic). I have GEPro, Ultimate Terrain, and FS Genesis Mesh... I'll post my cfg, but I promise you I have tried every number I could find in that post and thread you linked to (and many, many other threads as well). Including installing that "4GB patch" thing. These are the settings that have given me the best results, but as I've said not nearly to my satisfaction... [GRAPHICS] FULL_SCREEN=1 PERFORMANCE_MODE=0 DEF_PERF_MODE=7 TEXT_SCROLL=1 AUTO_LOD=0 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=2 TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_MAP=1 TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_OBJECTS=1 EFFECTS_QUALITY=2 GROUND_SHADOWS=1 SMOOTH_VIEW=1 IMAGE_SMOOTHING=1 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1 LANDING_LIGHTS=1 IMAGE_QUALITY=0 TEXTURE_BLDG=1 TEXTURE_GND=1 TEXTURE_WATER=1 AIRCRAFT_TEXTURE=2 SEE_SELF=1 TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 LOD_TARGET_FPS=24 NUM_LIGHTS=8 [DISPLAY.Device.AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series .0] Mode=1680x1050x32 MipBias=6 TriLinear=1 [DISPLAY] UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=35 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=4000 TextureMaxLoad=10 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=.9 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=.9 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=.9 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=.9 WarnBadSecondary=0 [TERRAIN] TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000 TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=0.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=200.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8 TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5 TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1 TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4 I 've changed the DETAIL_TEXTURE, TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD, TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT, TextureMaxLoad, and tried every conceivable suggested number under the [TERRAIN] heading. I've even tried the terrain.cfg tweak, but no joy. Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are both set through Catalyst Control Center and are at 4x respectively. I'm willing to listen to any suggestion. Thanks for having a look.
  6. You would think after all these years I would stay out of threads like this because I almost always leave disappointed. I have the exact same issue as Rafal and have made myself live with it, but once I see a pic from someone who doesn't have the blurries I just can't help but give the tweaks another go. Alas after trying every tweak from the link in the previous post I have yet again come up empty. I would give FSX a try, but I simply have too much invested in add-ons and can't justify (nor afford) paying for them again. Therefore I will continue to peek at threads like this in hopes of finding the magic tweak. Long story short, I feel your pain my friend.

    Trees

Hey Bill, I just started using this one... FS9TREE2.zip available in the library here. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Edit...it looks like the file I suggested and the second one you mentioned are the same, just named differently on each site. Anyway, as I said they look pretty good.
  8. Thanks for the info. I'm running 12.3, since FS9 is the only game/sim I run I haven't noticed any issues with it. Paul, I actually thought about you when I was typing that.. after seeing you mention it in several other threads I decided to try it and I realized you were right on. Interesting stuff Dave, thank you for sharing that and confirming what we've experienced. Still the question remains...why am I not seeing the 70-100fps (so I can indeed lock it at 60) that the OP is seeing? Particularly considering the fact that I'm running with a mild OC and they are not. Could it be that I still have hyperthreading turned on? I also don't have any whacky processes running in the background either. I'm just grasping at straws, but I would really like to get to the bottom of this because it has bugged me since I first built my rig. Keep in mind I'm just talking about a fair weather baseline, not the big graduated cloud layers in which ATi cards notoriously struggle (I've accepted that fact). Thanks again for all of your responses.
  9. You are absolutely right of course, and I do enjoy smooth flight locked at 35fps. However, if I have a machine capable of running my refresh rate and it isn’t I’m intrigued to find out why (I'm not complaining, just curious). As I said it is my first build and I’m learning constantly. On a side note, others will disagree but I feel I can tell a difference between 35fps and 60….
  10. Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I'm running an ATi card. What you say does make sense though, I wonder if the OP could share what Catalyst Control Center Version they are using since they seem to be using an AMD card as well (granted the OP has a 6870 running at probably a 900MHz clock, where as mine is a 6950 at 840Mhz, could that really be the difference?). I still can't help but think I've got something set somewhere that is holding it back. This was my very first build so that wouldn't suprise me at all. Don't get me wrong, my system is super clean and runs great, but I'd really like to lock my frames at 60 to match the refesh rate of my monitor and don't understand why I can't with my hardware. However with my FPS fluxuating below 58 occasionally that doesn't appear to be the case.
  11. I find this thread fascinating. With the hardware listed in my sig, my fps bounces around wildly between 55.5 & 63.5 (there are occasional spikes to triple digits, but only for a brief moment), yet the OP says they are getting 70-100fps (I even read a 200fps in one of her posts) on near identical hardware? I don't have any Vsync enabled that I'm aware of, so what am I missing? I run FS9.1, GE pro, UT, REX, and FS Genesis 19m mesh in full screen mode. I mainly fly Carenado GA aircraft.
  12. Totally agree, I'd love to see this tweak as well. I don't think you could put a price tag on it.I've got to say the best success I've had so far came from you Paul and post #11 from this thread.. http://forum.avsim.n...res-look-awful/I had tweaked my cfg until I was blue in the face and had zip to show for it. I had given up on fiddling with it further, but for some reason I decided to give yours a shot. Placebo or not is irrelevant. My brain says there is a marked improvement and I'm totally cool with that! Thanks again Paul :(
  13. After closer examination of the wingtip it looked like there were no strobes on this aircraft, and upon doing a little research it seems that not all Piper Archers of this vintage came with wingtip strobes. Ha, learn something new everyday.Carry on, nothing to see here... :(
  14. I've done some searching but haven't managed to come up with anything definitive so I apologize in advance if this has been resolved before.I recently purchased the FS2004 version of the Archer II and for some reason the wingtip strobes aren't flashing (or light up at all). It doesn't matter if I activate all the lights at once with the L key, or if I flip the strobe switch in the cockpit. The Nav, landing, and beacon lights all work fine, it's just the wingtip strobes I'm having trouble with. Just to note I've installed several other Carenado aircraft and their strobes are fine.Is this a known issue, or something I've got screwed up?Thank you in advance.
