  1. I would like to try this out before I buy, but it's a shame that there's no trial mode. At $50 it's quite expensive.

There's no trial mode because it's a no-brainer.  The best planning software this side of realworld commercial ops.  Simple as that.

As to price, $50 is a bargain.

Why is it worth it? I currently use EFB and design my flight plans online. How does PFPX add to the experience?

    Realism

  2. Reminding myself that you should address the issue and not the person raising it, I'll just say that that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. As real as it gets has its reasonable limits. For example:

    1) I don't don a uniform when I fly. In fact, I flew in my underwear last night. That might be grounds for termination at most airlines, but that doesn't mean I'm prepared to repurchase the PMDG 777. Sorry Ryan.

    2) I like to drink in the evening sometimes. Scotch or wine, sometimes beer. Sometimes all three. ----- Grounds for termination, a visit from the FAA and criminal prosecution.

    3) I've been known to fly straight through grey towering CB clouds just to see how the plane reacts. I did a flight from KJFK to KBOS during the height of Hurricane Sandy just because. I may have to try that again with Active Sky Next. Again, considering the number of flights that were cancelled that day, I'd have some explaining to do if I chartered my own flight with my airline's 737-800 to take some folks up to Boston despite the fact that NYC airports were closed due to weather conditions (like flooded runways). ----- Again, grounds for termination, a visit from the FAA and criminal prosecution.

As Real as it Gets--without being ridiculous.

  3. Lowered lod to 4.5. No more oom yet.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

You might find that you can get away with 5.5. That's still a 15% decrease from 6.5 and may be enough to cure the OOMs. It worked for me.

The other useful tidbit is to disable unnecessary scenery areas (via the Scenery Library) prior to each flight. This is useful when passing over detailed addon scenery that you are too high to enjoy. For example, there's no need to have FSDT's KJFK loading during your flight from KIAD to KBOS. But, if it's enabled, it will be loaded and use a portion of the VAS unnecessarily.

  4. Yes, I guessed so. No problem.

I just felt that you stomped in and offered no further advice to that which had previously been given (along with a few smart comments). Cultural differences I guess, because when I engage a lawyer (and my business requires that I do), I expect them to take a more open minded and friendlier approach. Good luck with the american legal system.

    Let's look at this objectively:

There are 9 replies to this thread (prior to this post)--a thread that touches on one of the most pervasive problems in FSX.

Of those 9 replies, the breakdown is as follows:

    1 from the OP himself;

    2 from Olli;

    1 each from Alstif and OldMaintGuy;

    2 from me; and

    2 from you.

All told, the OP caught the attention of just five people, one of whom (you) posted twice without offering a lick of advice to the OP.

The advice I gave was 1) to corroborate what offers have said and 2) most beneficially, to suggest to the OP that his title may result in fewer people turning up to help the him.

Are you suggesting that titles are unimportant?

Perhaps, in your next post, you'd be kind enough to weigh in on OOMs. Or would you rather continue your ad hominem attacks?

  5. Oh dear. Why such a negative reply? I think the replies he received before you stomped in were quite good AND in the correct forum.

A thread does not have a name. It has a title. What title would you suggest?

On another subject, I have seen many of your posts. Are you really a lawyer?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk

Excuse me? How is what I said negative? I simply made the point that giving his thread a proper title would help the OP draw the attention of people who can help him with his issue. If that sounds negative to you, I'd urge you to think for a moment about what it is exactly that a title is supposed to do. I only looked at his thread out of curiosity. Others may pass it by simply because they have no idea what the question is.

If that explanation isn't sufficient for your purposes, at least you'll note that I went on to provide advice on two of the settings affecting OOMs. If my goal was to stomp in and be negative, I wouldn't have bothered with all of that.

And, yes, I realize a thread has a "title," not a "name," which is why I referred to it as a "title" in the first sentence of my initial post. But at least you're detail oriented. That much I can give you credit for.

Edit: I also think it's ironic that you would chastise me for my advice and not bother to answer the OP's question. Who's doing the stomping??

    Yes, I'm really a lawyer.

  6. Hello, Guys!

Have you played MS flight? If YES then please tell me "What's the difference b/w FSX and MS Flight?"

Also what do you think will Microsoft add new Aircrafts like B777, A330, A380 etc in next versions? Some people say that Microsoft will finish the FSX in future. So how much is it right?

    Best Regards,

    AP,

MS Flight is a video game, right up there with Call of Duty and Angry Birds.

    FSX is a simulator.

  7. I am not sure what forum to put this under. It is related to OOM error. I did a fresh install onto a seperate HD for FSX and my addons. I have never had any problems with OOM in the past except in KLAX after a long flight. Now I installed KJFK V2 and MSE ultra hi res NYC and within 2 minutes of loading I get a OOM error. I was in the PMDG 777. When I use REX ESS plus OD it happens immediately. I have airline density, general aviation density and vehicle density about 20% and vehicles 5%, boats 5 %. I don't know what the issue could be. I also use MyTrafficX. I like flying with lots of AI so it is more realistic. Any ideas what I could try. I changed LOD Radius from 4.5 to 6.5 in cfg and added HIGHMEMFIX=1. I have about 8 other MSE 2 states installed as well and a handful of 3rd party sceneries and planes. Any help would be appreciated.

If you re-post your thread and give it an informative title, you'll have much better results.

But, yes, reduce your TML to 2048. If that doesn't work, consider reducing the LOD radius to 5.5, then 4.5 (default).

But, again, the best thing you can do is give your thread a meaningful name.

  8. Very much disagree with your Point (3).

The internal FSX limiter is broken and you will almost always get better results using Unlimited in FSX, and then setting a frame limit of 30 in nVidia Inspector, or CCC (for ATI users).

The FSX Limiter is not efficient and seems to involve a large processing overhead to limit frames, so not using it, hands that processing power back. Limiting frames at driver level tends to be much more efficient.

This was debunked some time ago. The wisdom now suggests using the internal limiter (30) and enabling 1/2 vsync in Inspector--assuming your monitor has a 60hz refresh rate.

  9. Dear 777 Pilots,

Can somebody advise where I can find a real flight training program for T7? I'm looking for flying lessons which include standard operations and non-standard operations training. I'm a pilot with A320, T154, Y40 experience and would like to discover T7 in a very professional way. I dream to have a training schedule with concrete tasks. For example this weekend I would like to train all engine failure situations and I need professional task story like place, weather, route, weight, fuel, failute type and task target. Even I have no idea for Touch and Go patterns. I know how to perform it, but not sure about weight and fuel values which are used for real lessons at simulators and live. Weather issues are also interesting. Crosswind final approach technique etc.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advacne!

Nothing is better than a type rating. Look at PAIFA. I'm an alum myself.

  10. Does it bother anyone else when topic tiles are completely meaningless?

I can't help but feel I may be missing good information because I just don't feel like reading topics with meaningless topic titles.

And worse yet is when I see the same topic weeks later and because the title is so vague I stupidly read it again....

Indeed. There's a recent thread (posted in triplicate no less) under the FSX forum titled "Request."

    Good stuff.

  11. My specs are:

    4770k @ 4.8 GHz

    ATI 7970

    512 GB SSD

In the demo (defualt 747 with broken clouds) I'm running around 27-30 fps. is this good?

Great--apart from the whole ATI thing. But, you should still fare well, assuming all of the other specs (like RAM, storage configuration, cooling, etc.) are on par with the 4770k.

  12. Wow. Unflyable?

If I threw $100 million on the doorstep of every PMDG 777 owner, 98% of them would skip off into the sunset as happy as could be. The other 2% would complain that I gave them all 100's and no 50's, or that a couple of the bills had bent corners.

There's no pleasing some people. I have YET to see a single CTD, or anything similar that would prompt me to throw a tantrum and declare that the 777 is unflyable. I call that crowd the Two Percenters.

  13. You have to have a very skewed understanding of business and economics to believe that this sort of thing will impact business decisions. If the economics make sense, Microsoft will sell or license the code to Lockheed Martin. If the economics don't make sense, It won't--and a petition won't change the analysis. Period.

And, anyone in business will tell you that you get executive management's attention by presenting a well-written and persuasive proposal. If something like this is going to have any chance of being taken seriously, it's going to require someone with better writing skills. No offense to the drafter, but the reader forms an impression of your proposal well before he/she finishes reading it. Spelling and grammar mistakes will undermine the effectiveness of an otherwise strong argument.

  14. At the risk of being attacked by those of you with too much time on your hands, I have a suggestion I'd like to put forward for the upcoming T7 patch: increase the size of the click zones around the speed, heading and altitude knobs. Admittedly, I've adjusted my view settings to 78, -0.55, 7.5, but that's just so that I can get a better inflight view of all the instruments. Unfortunately, this also makes it very difficult to use the autopilot knobs when in flight. Respectfully, PMDG, I'm asking that you increase the click zones for all three autopilot knobs as part of your T7 patch.

Other than that, this bird is perfect. Congratulations PMDG on developing what is now the best aircraft available for FSX simulation. I can't wait for the expansion pack!

    Gil Ferreira

If you're using a realistic zoom setting (80-90%), you won't have a problem. Trouble is, many people are zooming so far out (because they want to see the panel and the view over the glarshield at the same time) that the panel is reduced to the size of a postage stamp. That's just not a realistic viewpoint. You'd have trouble manipulating knobs and switches from 6ft away in the real T7 as well.

  15. Hey guys,

I just bought and installed the PMDG 777, and i started up fsx immediately to test it, but non of the buttons on my joystick work in the 777.

Have any of you had the same problem and have a solution?

And one more thing, i downloaded the paintkit, and i was just wondering, how do you painters paint the tail?

    Thanks,

    Kim.

Most likely an FSUIPC issue. Try deleting your FSUIPC.ini and redo your settings within FSUIPC.

  16. With no budget, I'd be on the phone with CAE ordering a level D simulator.

Assuming you actually DO have a budget, I'd say your build will smoke FSX. Of course, you'll need to set it up correctly following one of the comprehensive guides available (Word Not Allowed, NickN, the official Avsim guide, etc.). Otherwise you'll be posting on here again with a thread titled, "High-End PC with Low FPS...Please Help!!!!"

  17. How can you test the OC before any software including Windows is installed? You would have to install Windows first which, as you have mentioned, runs the risk of corrupting one or more Windows files.

    ...

Software and OS is the same thing here....

See my post above. When I say "applications" or "software", I'm referring to programs other than Windows. Your operating system is the core of the operating environment, so of course you install that before overclocking. Stability of the overclock, at the end of the day, really is stability of the OS. Besides, Prime95 runs within Windows.

The OP is asking about FSX. And that should be installed only after you have a stable overclock.

  18. So the OS is not considered software?

It really doesn't matter to me, as I don't have the need to ever OC.

The OS is what needs to be stable. It's the foundation of your PC's operating environment. So, yes, you won't be well served in overclocking before installing Windows. For one thing, I'm not too sure there is a bootable version of Prime95.

So Trevor, What happens when you want to install a new program? Do you set everything back to default speed, install, and then OC again?

No, because you overclock BEFORE you install applications (other than Windows--see above). Once your overclock is stable, install away. If months from now you need to install a new program, go for it. I'm not sure how you would conclude that my approach (overclocking before installing applications) would require you to remove the overclock in order to install software.

I overclocked my 3770k to 4.6 in April and haven't visited bios or otherwise manipulated settings since. It's stable. I've since installed FSX and other applications without touching a thing.

  19. On that basis is Windows not worthy enough of being corrupt-free?

Install Windows then OC as there is a risk of damaging existing files? If that is the case then NEVER OC as Windows can go bye-bye.

What good are any apps installed if Windows has corrupted files? Get a blue screen after a supposed stable OC which was setup before installing FSX - which is the culprit FSX or a corrupt file within Windows? How would you tell?

Following that logic would tell me NEVER to OC and that way I would never have any corrupt files.

    Huh??

I'm not trying to be rude, but that scarcely qualifies as logic. It's a fairly simple concept. Manipulating overclocking variables after a software install can corrupt files. That doesn't mean you can't overclock. It means that you overclock the system BEFORE software is installed.
