Expansion needs update.
I run FSX/Accel, windows 7 64bit. I checked in the CarenadoNavigragh and the "cycle" is updated properly. Their were 2 install versions, 1 for mac I assume and the other for Normal. I used the Normal. Flights work well, its just after a flight when I shut down FSX, when I retsart it and chose the 300 again it crashes it guaranteed. Usually it will load fine the "next" time FSX is loaded, after a crash. Without the expac, I can retsart FSX all day always re-choosing the 300 and never a crash. I've reinstalled everything a 100 times and its the same thing everytime. I always start FSX, ASN ect... as admin and my Navigragh is always "active" and updates and runs just fine. I chose "mapping" it it finds "all carenado products" and then updates. When I start FSX it always loads the new cycle but only for that 1 time as it was designed to. Everything works fine, its just the crashes.

Expansion needs update.
Well, basically after messing around for about a week and spending countless hours I can tell you for me the 300 Expansion does nothing but cause issues. For example, with just the main aircraft installed I never have any CTD issues. With the Expansion installed I have crashes when ever I reload FSX after a flight in the 300. Every time guaranteed. It also crashes FSX sometimes right after a flight in the 300, as I'm trying to close FSX. There are also other minor issues that just make this already beautiful yet finicky airplane a pain in the &@($* when the Expansion is installed. So for me I DONT use the expansion and all is well, but I would really like to see the bugs worked out so I can use it. It just feels like it was thrown together and not really tested before release. The plane is wonderful though and my favorite small aircraft, however it could be a lot better with the Expansion bugs worked out. Crash.

Installing ASN XGauge
Ok great..I think i have the latest downloaded already but I will double check. I did not realize the 737 was updated with this feature...this is really great news thanks so much for everyone's reply.

Installing ASN XGauge
That's true, but I just wanted to know if it worked with PMDG products. Mainly the 777 and 737. Yes the 777 does have the WX which I use all the time, but the 737 has no such feature. This is not 737 forum but does the XGauge work on the 737?

Installing ASN XGauge
I wanted to know that it was safe to install on the 777 and if I should use the APPEND or INSERT mode for install. This is ASNs in-flight pop up gauge. I am running FSX/Accel.

Glare-shield Panel Light
Since the new update was installed, at night time adjusting the Glare-shield light causes the plane to bounce and the game to stutter bad while adjusting it. This is the inner knob that controls the MCP panel light adjustment. Can anyone confirm this also? I'm running FSX/Accel on 1024 settings. Thanks, Dominick Lafayette

EFIS APP Mode
Hi Mike, I was talking about the EFIS APP mode. When I enter the flight plan into the CDU before flight, I enter in the runway that ATC clears me on to take off from, and on destination I go to LEGS page and enter the code for the airport (ex. KIAD) and then enter 185(speed)/*ALT (altitude of destination airport) into the line to the right of the code. Then when I get close to the airport I wait for ATC clearance to the selected runway, and then I enter that runway's LOC frequency/course into the NAV RAD page of the CDU. Your recommendation is to go to DEP/APPR page of the CDU when cleared for landing runway, and enter that runway. If I do this, should I even bother to enter in the destination airport code when I enter in the initial flight plan, or do I leave it blank until I get the landing clearance to my destination?

EFIS APP Mode
I'm trying to learn how to let the ATC guide me in approach instead of assuming that the runway I entered in the FMC will be available. Obviously it's much more realistic as this can change by the time you reach your destination airport. However not having any real training( i'm not a real pilot), the challenge for me is situation awareness when on approach, compared to just following the FLP all the way to the runway. FSX default ATC is not the best, but it is as real as I can make it unless I used I live ATC program which at this time I'm not interested in. So far the best way I have is using both the APP mode in conjunction with the airport fix (/35, /20, /10) for awareness and it's a great help. I'm not used to using the APP mode so I wanted to make sure I understood it as much as possible, so thanks much for the response. If anyone else has some additional advice it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I'm considering this case closed. Thanks again, Crashbar.

EFIS APP Mode
Would somebody mind giving a description of how the APP mode on the EFIS works in the ND for the 777. I have found one video that appears to explain EFIS and using the APP mode in the ND, but it's in German. I have not been able to really find any other source that goes into detail on it. I'm wanting to understand it better so I can use it for more situational awareness. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Crash.

For those with FPS issues.
When you guys complain about FPS what are your specs? What texture max load are you running with what add-ons? Have you taken the time to read on forums and do the few tricks to the fsx.cfg files as recommended in this forum? I only ask because I run this plane anywhere with REX, ASN, UTX, GEX ect. ect. and get around 60fps in non-add-on airports and city's and 30fps in heavy add-on scenery's. I"ll bet anything most of you having issues run 4096 max load texture, high road and airline traffic and max settings....with most if not all the add-ons listed above. If this is the case, then it's not hard to understand that your straining your system. I run 1024 textures using NVIDIA Inspector and I can guarantee you couldn't tell the difference....except the FPS lol. If you use NVIDIA Inspector correctly that's what it does, but this is only 1 little small change you can make. Take a few and read up "tuning FSX" in the AVSIM forums...it's all their and tested. Hope this helps, Crash.

select direct to wpt in fpl
Switch CDI to GPS mode in left MFD. CDI has 3 modes: VOR1, VOR2, GPS. I always set this before flight. Then during flight you can switch between HDG for heading follow or NAV for GPS follow. GPS will follow WPT's. Make sure you have A/P master on of course. To fly directly to a WPT by skipping other WPT's can be done by deleting the waypoints up to the one you want to fly to via the FSX FLP menu and save it. When it asks you if you want to reset your flight just select no and it will update in your GPS. Hope this helps, Crash.

Missing Waypoints
Haha ya when ATC brought me in on the approach pattern to KTPA they sent me 40 miles past in the opposite direction then brought me back in and handed me off to tower at 25 miles away perpendicular to the runway lol. Think I'm going to check out RadarContact, although I have read up on problems getting key registration. I don't think I'm ready for live ATC yet, need to learn the lingo lol.

Missing Waypoints
Big thanks to everyone especially downscc your exactly right...thought I was doing something wrong lol. Btw I studied the tutorials and manuals for a week before I even started up FSX.......theirs just so much information that 2 weeks isn't enough time to bring it all in. This forum has been a great help though thanks again guys. Just did my first flight with a complete route and it went great, very pleased. All except the default ATC......it really is horrible and quite unusable imo lol.

Missing Waypoints
Actually it makes perfect sense, and I believe I even proved the point just a little while ago when i just added in the missing waypoints directly through the FMC and took them right in with no problem. This is another example of re-checking everything over and over and being able to understand the flexibility of the FMC. Thanks again Kyle, happy flights.

Missing Waypoints
Ya I just purchased NAVIGRAGH a week ago, same time I bought PFPX and the NGX. I bought the quarterly subscription and all NAV info is updated.

Missing Waypoints
Hello, OK again I'm still new to PMDG and before I post questions I do try my best to research solutions, in this case I can not find one. I have created a FLP from KCHA to KTPA using PFPX. This may be a PFPX issue but I thought I would start here first. The problem is when I load this in the FMC it only shows roughly half of the flight plan waypoints. The last waypoint shown in the LEGS page is SZW. The next waypoint at cruise, HEVVN and the following TOD/descent waypoints are not shown. When I go back to PFPX on the map when I zoom in I can see all the waypoints to the airport including the alternate path to KSRQ, and all the waypoints are shown on the PFPX flight report. I also noticed that ASN shows the same waypoints that the NGX FMC shows when I load the same FLP. It does not show the missing waypoints which leads me to believe the is something in PFPX but I'm not sure. The same phenomenon happened when using PFPX to create a FLP from EHAM to LOWI using the same runway approach used in tutorial2. I hope I was able to articulate the problem some what and any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, crashbar.

BARO/RADIO mins.
Kyle I really apprteciate the time you took for the response. It's exactly as I thought, airport dependant and all comes down to doing your homework and taking the time to plan correctly. I have purchased Navigrapgh and PFPX and they have made planning much easier. Learning to read charts is coming slowly but I have managed to put a few flights together utilizing most techniques used in the tutorials that went very smoothly. I have studied some of your video's and they were a tremendous help on understanding PFPX, TOPCAT ect.. From what I've learrned a successful flight is moslty about a good pre-flight plan and understanding your plane and its systems to help you be the most prepared for the unpredictabilities that weather can cause. On that note, my brain is overloaded and time to take a break. Thanks again Kyle and all for the reply's, extremely helpful, crashbar.

BARO/RADIO mins.
forum.avsim.net/topic/380875-mins-knob-radio-and-baro/ Thank you guys. Appears this has been answered and very well I might add. Thanks again

BARO/RADIO mins.
So is it MINS>RADIO for CAT II and MINS>BARO for visual landing such as in tutorial#2(LOWI). It seems to me that it is airport dependant and I need to refer to charts, but if it is airport dependant I would assume(I know scarry word) that a CAT II would be chosen over the other for this type of aircraft if available. Is this correct?

BARO/RADIO mins.
I think the hardest thing for someone like me who is diving into the "REAL GUTS" of aviation, but have a sickness for perfection is all the equipment/instrument redundancy's and amount of and choices available at one time. This aircraft has much more flexibility than I ever realized, which was something I did not expect with an aircraft this complex. I have a much better understanding now and have found your answers very helpful, thank you. I'm really enjoying the challenge of learning and properly operating this beautiful plane, I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future and appreciate everyone's patience. See you up in the air!

BARO/RADIO mins.
Hello guys........new to the PMDG family and still learning about this wonderful thing called flight so please bare with me if my question seems redundant and yes, I have tried to research my question online but am unable to find an answer that my brain can understand so here goes. I have purchased both the 737 and 777 for FSX, but my question is with the 737. In tutorial 1 on approach I set landing minimums in the EFIS panel from BARO to RADIO and RADIO altitude set to 100. From what I understand this is the proper procedure for a CAT II landing for ILS approaches. In tutorial 2 the MINS knob is on BARO and BARO dialed to 3700ft, the min transition. The MINS knob is never switched to RADIO which from what what I understand is required for CAT II landing. So in this tutrial to LOWI, this is a CAT I landing? A CAT I from what I understand is used for (most) small aviation planes and for when you are doing a visual approach. Is this all correct? Also one more question about using the STD button on the BARRO knob. Do I switch from flight altitude to flight levels at transition altitude on takeoff.........then switch from flight levels to flight instruments at T/D on descent? Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated and I can't say enough how impressed I am with PMDG planes.......thanks for your time, crashbar.

Daytime textures at night!
crashbar replied to crashbar's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumFigured it out! Shade was apparently the program making this issue whenever their was fog. Still though when using ASX 2012 in foggy conditions It looks very unrealistic at low alltitude whith clouds popping and at night it looks even worse. I think FSX own Fog depiction is much better. I wouldn't reccomend this product until they fix it or turn off all Fog options.

Daytime textures at night!
crashbar replied to crashbar's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumI give it more than enough time to load. I sat on the tarmack for over 10 mins, took off and not until I reached around 1,000ft. that everything went dark again, and then when I decend back under 1,000ft. it gets brighter and brighter. So you can just keep going under and over 1,000ft. and it gets bright or dark. It's wierd because everything will be fine at UpperHeyford(EGUA), but then at EGLL the sky lights up. It also did this at Bagram AB at night also.

Daytime textures at night!
I'm running FSX/SP2. I'm leaving EGLL(England) and headed to OEPS(Saudi Arabia). It's 2:30 in the morning and should be pitch black. As Active Sky 2012 is downloading the weather the pitch black turns brighter, brighter and brighter until it looks like daytime, but when I use the F12(Satellite View) it shows the area and half the planet for that matter night time. As I climb through 1,000ft. in my plane it starts getting darker, darker and darker until it becomes dark again. I am using REX OD for textures but dont see how that would play into it. My usual method for start up is: start AS '12 and then after it downloads info go staraight to "start FSX" I'm not sure if it's fog related or what but very starange...any idea's?
