For fans of Flying Wild Alaska, Unalakleet airport is there with all the details. I don't see Jim Tweto around though...

The Maule's VC seems more confined now. I think they changed the default view. It makes it look more realistic for being in a small cockpit.

How to download the additional DLC for Alaska
Gerryo03 replied to jcomm's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
Thanks. I was getting unsuccessful installs from the marketplace. -
The other element to a good landing is the set up. When you get to the airfield, imagine a 1 mile box around it. The intent is to fly over box so that the opposite side of it is right over the runway you are landing on. Fly the leg parallel to the runway you intend to land on at about 1000 ft AGL. Reduce throttle so that the airplane is flying not faster than 90 kts. Deploy flaps about 10 degrees. The plane will try to climb as flaps are deployed but push down on the stick to keep it leveled. When you are about 1 mile flying in the opposite direction of the runway, make a 90 degree turn towards the runway. Deploy more flaps about 20 degrees. Now make your last turn toward the runway on the final leg. Apply more flaps, about 40 degrees. Your plane should be flying at about 60 kts now. Be careful no fly below the stall speed (around 50 kts depending n the load). On final the descent rate should be about 500 ft/min. Once over the runway, throttle down to a flare, let the plane settle down It takes practice but landings should be smoother.

When I exit the plane, i go to Google Earth , street view as stroll over a couple of blocks around the airport's surroundings. This lets me get a sense of the ground view, I get also to see traffic and people in the area.

Control your sim with your tablet

Jas I looked for the subject in the FSX forum up to April 5 and could not locate it. Could you point to it? -
Do you have a favorite base of ops? I like flying out of Hana. It is in a cozy corner of Maui, conveniently located to make short cargo or passenger flights to nearby islands. I wish Flight would make missions where we could fly for money, from a base, purchase new planes to haul more passengers, etc. It would add continuity to the game. Cheers :drinks:

Bug - Airplane crashes at setup
Gerryo03 replied to Gerryo03's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
When you get the new plane, does it work? I get locked in the fly by view. -
When starting a new flight, my airplane immediately crashes as the program initiates the flight. It seems that the airplane is not being started at the correct elevation with respect to the ground and this is being interpreted as a crash. Then, my pilot record is updated with a additional crash. I also get stuck in the fly by view as a result.(A work around fix has already been found for this)Has anyone dealt with this bug?
-
Thanks for your quick response dburne and J van E. However, I could not find the files mentioned. Would they change if I am a Windows Vista user? Are these files in the MS Flight folder? Where would I find the appdata file?

I keep getting stuck in the fly by view. Until Microsoft fixes this bug, is there a file that can be changed to remedy this?

Microsoft is taking a gamble in redefining the game concept and parameters, specially when it comes to us "old farts". However, MS enticed the audience with the "free game" feature to get instant audience recognition. It is like going to the store and trying a sample of food hoping that the customer buys the package. Not a new tactic but nevertheless a gutsy one in today's market.

The Kano model is a marketing concept where a product is favored by the customer due to "delighters" features. These delighters eventually become expected features so that new delighters are needed to continue to drive sales of future product generations. If expected features are omitted from the product this would create negative customer reactions thus driving product sales down.In Flight a new set of delighters have been introduced when compared to the predicate FSX product (faster frame rates for lower end machines, more graphic detail, progressive missions and challenges). At the same time expected features have been taken out (ATC, Track IR integration, third party content, real world weather) - yikes!. This is an interesting and gutsy gamble taken by Microsoft in the hope of driving new sales by redefining the product with a basic new set of delighter features. Flight is indeed enjoyable and attractive but hard core simmers eventually may be driven out if the expected features are not integrated back into the future product updates. Will Microsoft move be successful in redefining the flight sim product concept? Stay tuned...

In the Maule the Hobbs meter in within the tachometer (RPM meter) on the extreme right. It has a rolling number display of 5 digits.

I have been monitoring the Hobbs meter in the Maule. It does keep track of the hours flown in that plane. Nice little detail.
