  1. Same thing here. Was bugged when I tried it with the Carbon Cub deluxe. I restarted the game and tried it with the RV-6, and the aerocache appeared.
  2. It's an even sadder day when people are using EULAs to defend corporations that fire entire teams on a whim. For once, can we have a discussion about what's right, versus what license agreements say? Way too many people cling to laws. I'm not in favor of getting a refund; I'm debating what's right versus wrong. If you read my post completely, you can tell by the nature of it that I'm not here to debate contracts. I'm trying to have a reasonable discussion about what Microsoft said we were getting with Alaska. I guess that was my first problem though; expecting to have a reasonable discussion with people online. My thoughts exactly. I'm not quite sure why everyone felt the need to jump ship after it was canned. It's not like we'd be getting any more content for at least another month at the minimum.
  3. I'm not in favor of getting a refund by ANY means, I love flight. That said...if you really want to get down to it. https://news.microso...wilderness.aspx We were indeed promised things that still aren't in game; mainly new jobs (a bit ironic, isn't it?). Now we can argue over what "new" means (and the context of it), but you have to agree that some people would be mislead by such statements. Overall I don't care though, I really enjoy flight and will continue to enjoy it over the next few months. It seems with almost any kind of video game....there will always be people who believe they are entitled to a refund; tis a sad state of the world.
  4. The only thing I feel "cheated" about is aerocaches. Advertised as a feature of Alaska, they weren't even in the game until basically 3 weeks after launch. And then the game gets canned. I'd like to see the rest of the aerocaches at least make it to the in-game interface. Other than that, I have no interest in getting a refund. As long as they keep releasing what's left of the aotds, I'll be happy.
  5. I'm buying the Carbon Cub as a *hats off* to the MS Flight developers. Regardless of the state of the game, those guys put their hearts into the game; and it showed. They put a lot of time into making the Carbon Cub for the dedicated fans. They probably won't see any of that money from the purchase, but at least they will know people are still enjoying their creations. I had some amazing times with the game, and I'm sure I'll get plenty of more enjoyment out of it.
  6. This is sad news. With the recent releases of Alaska and Cub Deluxe, I was really looking forward to the future of the franchise. Regardless, I'd rather have Flight in it's current state, than not at all. It was fun while it lasted, and I'm sure I will continue playing the game over the next few months. There's no question that the entire game was handled "mediocre" at best; and that's really what's most troubling. Could you imagine how amazing this game could have been? Overall, the entire MS Flight game has only made me more amped for future sims. In my opinion, the future is bright. It could easily take 5 years or more, but I'm positive about it.
  7. We've all read that....what we want to know is the ETA on actually getting those in the game. As it's read, one would assume (haha, big assumption right?) that aerocaches are already in the game; otherwise what's the point of advertising a feature for a new product....that's actually not in said product. Oh well, we've just got to be patient at this point.
  8. It amazes me that Microsoft posts this information to beta testers. What about other PAYING customers? This information needs to be posted on their official website. Absolute terrible business practice. I feel so out of the loop on this game. Microsoft needs to work on their communication skills big time.
  9. If that's the case, they really need to work on their communication skills. A simple two sentences on the MS Flight website could have explained that. As it stands that's a pretty deceptive move on their part. Classic bait and switch. Luckily we have a very perceptive community that can pass on the news. Regardless, it's good news and I hope we'll have missions sometime in the near future.
  10. I'm pretty sure there are no missions. Also, I think we might have to go out and discover the aerocaches for ourselves (at this point in time). Perhaps the flight team will eventually add them into the menu/UI.
  11. Overall Alaska is an excellent buy at $15. The only thing I find "missing" are missions (not challenges or jobs). I really enjoyed the missions in Hawaii, kind of disappointed to see they were omitted. I won't even touch the Cub outside of the challenges...I'm eagerly awaiting for some new planes.
  12. I don't mean any offense at all, but do any of you actually have video game programming experience? There is simply so many factors that we, the public, are out of the loop on. They might have to jump through 100 different hurdles to get them working correctly. Everyone here makes it sounds like it's super easy to create one of these.....for a small team it's quite a serious undertaking to get a full-scale cockpit working correctly with all the "gizmos". I'd be willing to bet the MS Flight team is considerably smaller than any of the teams that worked on the FSX games. But I totally agree with you on the virtual cockpit point; there's really no excuse for basic airspeed/attitude indicators being omitted.
  13. I don't think anyone here was implying there will never be anymore cockpit planes. This game has so much potential and it can be upsetting to see that it hasn't lived up to the standards yet; with a HUGE emphasis on yet. Bottom line is, there isn't a huge market for flight sims. Microsoft knows this, and I'd rather them take their time than rush something to market. If they need to build up some more capital with cockpit-less planes, the more the merrier. Microsoft is obviously listening to us (trackIR), and they know what we want. Just be patient....any game that starts as free-to-play is going to have a small team. Making a cockpit plane is a serious programming undertaking...Microsoft isn't just going to be throwing out full-cockpit planes every month. They first need to see what people are interested in....and see what is going to sell well enough for their time investment.
  14. Alright I think I've found the culprit. In the Games for Windows Marketplace settings, everything is set to install/download on the secondary drive (it's been set that way since I first installed it). Yet for some reason I see the Microsoft Flight patch install files stored in my user folder\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\4d530d2 Hovering over the files in the folder reveals subject: Microsoft Flight Perhaps patches are handeled differently than doing a direct download from Games for Windows Marketplace? Regardless everything is good now. Thanks to everyone for helping me narrow that down :D
  15. Yep, did that a while ago. Thanks anyway though :) Gonna be doing a reinstall sometime soon so that's a good reminder :P Very strange....I wish I knew how this installed itself (automatic updates/drivers are not enabled). Maybe Windows just decided to move/recreate some files on it's own; that just happened to coincide around the hour I installed the flight patch. Oh well...thanks for the help everyone. Very informative post.
  16. As someone who uses a small 30gb SSD for my OS, storage is tight. (And let me just get this out of the way- I'm getting a new SSD within the 4-5 months). All games (including Microsoft Flight) are installed on secondary hard disk drives. I've installed well over 40 games over the past few years and I only experience these kind of issues with Microsoft games specifically; they seem to always install extra things to the root hard drive. After the latest patch, I noticed that my SSD lost about 500mb of space. After some further investigation, I noticed most of the new files were located in the eHome folder (located in C:/ProgramData/Microsoft). After a little investigating it turns out this is specifically something that deals with infrared devices (trackIR). I have no plans to purchase TrackIR for the foreseeable future, so I would really like to get this extra 500mb of crap off my hard drive. Can I simply delete the new files without causing any harm to the game? Thanks in advance for any help! Edit- Just wanted to say that perhaps I'm totally off base with this (definitely assuming a decent bit of information from google). If I'm way off base please let me know. But there's no question that I have lost at minimum 500mb of space of the root drive; nothing has been installed/updated in the past week with the exception of the MS Flight update.
  17. Correct....I know that. What I said is still valid; try calibrating the monitor if it seems to dark. I don't have the issue on my plasma downstairs....but my LCD exhibits it (doesn't display the true colors, blacks aren't accurate at all). Luckily my monitor has custom presets that I can save; I've made a MS flight preset that I switch to whenever I boot up the game.
  18. Just wondering, have of any of you tried calibrating your monitors? To me, this seems more like a contrast issue than a brightness issue. On my LCD, I have noticed it can be dark; but mine is no where near as dark as that. LED monitors are known for their saturated colors...I would definitely try messing around with the contrast. Won't be perfect but it should look a little nicer than that.
  19. The entire gaming market has been this way for at least 5-6 years now. Microsoft Live operates in the exact same fashion. FYI, Steam is arguably the best digital game management software. No DRM restrictions, easy updates for all your games. The competition doesn't even come close to steam in regards to stability/usability. And steam or no steam....you're being monitored. No way to stop that....the Internet is open by design. Steam is not one of the largest companies in the world....I'd be MUCH more concerned about the FCC/ISPs monitoring your traffic. If you're really that paranoid, you might as well stop using the Internet now. I'm not joking. What do you think happens when you go out and visit websites? Ever heard of a cookie? I'm not trying to be an &@($*....but it's quite illogical to avoid steam because you're worried about being "monitored". I guarantee you Microsoft monitors a bunch of crap with their Live Marketplace. And I'd just like to add this...most people don't own anything. They don't own their house. They don't own their car.
  20. Well, that shreds what little respect I had left of IGN.Seriously, 5.0? I wonder if the reviewer even bothered to turn off all the flight handicaps; judging by the review he didn't even bother to go into the options at all. It's almost as if the reviewer forgot the game was indeed free; commenting on how it's lacking radio communication and "real life weather".I would be insulted if I worked on the dev team. This game is so much better than a 5.0. And it's even worse once you consider how often IGN throws around 9.0+ ratings. So many ignorant people in the comments section; a lot of people passing judgement onto this game without even playing it. Oh well, that's the world we live in.They don't know what they are missing. Sure, it's not 100% realistic. But from one pilot to another, it's got just the right amount of sim and the right amount of arcade. It's a very relaxing game. It's almost as if the reviewer has a personal vendetta against this game.
