  1. Any news on this front? By my reckoning the REX Simair project has the potential to absolutely revolutionize the flight sim experience by adding a new and deep dimension to the simulation, introducing strategy and giving meaning to your flights. I hope this thing has some traction and continues moving forward... I understand there was some copyright problems with EA but whats in a name anyways? Getting concerned that we aren't hearing anything about such an important product.
  2. Thanks flying bob! Sorry I am a little slow sometimes, I got it working now. Next step: figure out how to actually fly it - should be fun. - Phil
  3. Hi Jim, I must be missing something here. I have put the dds file into my texture.common folder per the instructions and this is my [LIGHTS] section in the cfg file: [LIGHTS] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing //light.0 = 4, 4.00, 0.00, 1.00, fx_vclightcarcnB light.0 = 10, 4.40, 0.00, 2.90, fx_vclightcarcnbB light.1 = 10, 4.40, 0.00, 2.90, fx_vclightcarcnbB light.2 = 10, -1.80, 0.00, 4.00, fx_vclightcarcn2B light.3 = 10, -5.50, 0.00, 3.85, fx_vclightcarcn2B I have also tried it like this: [LIGHTS] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing //light.0 = 4, 4.00, 0.00, 1.00, fx_vclightcarcnB light.1 = 10, 4.40, 0.00, 2.90, fx_vclightcarcnbB light.2 = 10, -1.80, 0.00, 4.00, fx_vclightcarcn2B I still get the dome light and not the cool looking dim cockpit lighting above
  4. Sorry to be 'that guy'... but I cannot seem to get this fix to work. I unzipped the .dds file on my desktop then dragged it into the texture.common folder and replaced the original. Then I copied the above text into the [Lights] portion of the aircraft.cfg... but I am still getting the full on dome light when i switch on cabin lights.... can anyone help me figure out what im doing wrong?
  5. Probably a n00b question but.. what are you using there for the driving bit?
  6. *bump* Anyone have any updated information on the Simair project? The REX website hasn't had much to say for a few months as far as I can tell..
  7. Hi All, I am having a rough time trying to get VAFS5 to read my location in FSX. The VAFS program reads that FSX is turned on and initially sees my correct geographic location but somehow the link between VAFS-Simconnect-FSX is broken in the preflight screen. I have tinkered with my Norton and tried everything with no firewall on etc. but to no avail. Weirdly enough, VAFS worked randomly for me 3 days ago but I did nothing different. I have no idea if VAFS's problem with discerning my location at the departure airport is related to FSUIPC or the program itself.. I do not know even where to begin in diagnosing and fixing Simconnect so I have turned to this forum hopeful for an answer. I have 3 Simconnect files that I can see.. FSUIPC log says it can see the SP2 Simconnect.. I think that is all proper but unsure. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I should mention that i have had no issues with other 3rd party programs.. i.e. Air Hauler which is able to plot my location without issue. Also using MyTraffic X with no issues noted. Phil using Windows 7 with FSX Gold + Acceleration installed Registered copy of FSUIPC v 4.827 I show 3 separate Simconnect folders installed in my windows directory.. not sure if that is supposed to be the case or not but I believe it corresponds to my upgrading from gold to acceleration judging from the date modified info. Problem is described in more detail in the thread below: http://www.myvafinan...-flight-screen/
  8. Hi all, I spend a good deal of time flying the freeware Dornier 228 by Premair. She isnt much to look at, but what can I say shes a good time and fits in well with my Air Hauler company. The only problem I have is the only DME guage is on the co-pilots side of the cockpit and that makes for an awkward view while flying in the VC on approach. My work around is to basically size the GPS so it fits on the dash and get distance from that. Since this is not optimal I was wondering if some one could explain to me how I might either move an existing DME gauge to a different location in the cockpit or if there is an add on that I could install onto a particular aircraft. Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks everyone, I am much obliged for the assistance. So, If I understand properly, my best bet for improving my system is to obtain the following: - i7 2700K - GTX 670 (and this must be better than my existing Radeon 5850?) Money is not such a concern for me, so if there are any higher performance options let me know (I plan on ordering within the next 24 hours)
  10. My rig has served me pretty well, However it struggles on ultra high performance settings (particularly with the add on aiports like Aerosoft's CDG or Tropical Sim's KDCA). I have the budget to upgrade to a new processor, but what i need is better expertise to advise me if what i have in mind makes sense or if there is some other aspect of my rig that I should address in lieu of moving to the better processor. As indicated below, I have the i7 930. I'm not really comfortable overclocking without some sort of step by step guide from some one using my same equipment as I dont trust myself not to fry everything. So, all advice on how to improve my set up is very welcome, thank you in advance. Processor Intel® Core™ i7 930 Processor (4x 2.80GHz/8MB L3 Cache) Processor Cooling XIGMATEK Dark Knight 120mm CPU Cooling Fan System - H.D.T. 11. I enjoy the CLS A300/A310 package however i am trying to correct one issue which sort of cuts into the experience for me and that is the issue of their sound package. Essentially the primary problem is that when viewed from an exterior view the engines sound like they are at full throttle even if the engines are not running. I have of course visited the CLS forums regarding this topic but inquiries regarding this subject have been met with deafening silence and so I took the hint that it is one of those "acceptable losses" type of scenarios that is not going to be fixed, so I turn instead to the expertise of the AVSIM. My initial thought is to figure out a way to simply swap out the sounds folder that comes with the CLS package for some comparable aircraft's sound files that function properly. Would this work? And is it a simple matter of copying and pasting folders? This is the point at which I am unsure and do not want to commit some error that makes things worse. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.
  12. I am having the same issue, i gather from the above that the key to solving the problem is getting the check marks to stick for "Creater Owner".. for my own benefit and also for posterity's sake in the search function.. could you just briefly explain how you managed to do that?
  13. Hoping to ride along the economic boom in Angola I have created Blue Horizon Air Cargo in Air Hauler to serve FNLU, as well as short/medium haul routes in the Congos and Gabon. I began with one Caravan and have just today leased my first addition to the fleet, a lovely Premair Do-228. These two repaints are the first I have ever attempted (at least without crying and quitting halfway through) let me know what you think! The bird that started it all. Our primary base is on the desolate airfield at Cabinda (FNCA).. the company has minimal hangar space (need to figure out ADE to customize my FBO) so this one has spent some time sitting out in the African sun. Quite a workhorse shes been though. I cant believe this one is freeware. Great fun to fly. This picture is of only this bird's second flight with the company, having just left FZAM, a dirt strip in the Congo perched on a cliff. The approach into FZAM was a blast especially because I got terrible vectors and didnt see it until I was 3 miles out. Same flight, safely arrived at Luanda (FNLU). Here I was feeling high and mighty because I had escaped the tyranny of the single engine and upgraded to a turboprop, only to have to taxi past that Angolan Airlines 777. I originally planned on expanding into FNLU but the costs are outrageous compared to nearby Brazzaville which is also equipped with a 10k rwy and ILS so I think I will be moving more in the Congo direction.
  14. hey J102: I actually fly to Luanda a bunch, will you be hosting your scenery anywhere? I hope it includes the turn-offs on Rwy 23 so I dont have to do the Austin Powers turn when back taxiing :D
  15. I was just desperate for a solution to my runaway throttle problem, and my internet searches on the topic consistently brought me to topics dealing with FSUIPC. I use a Saitek throttle which is plugged into my Saitek USB yoke. I find that when flying slower GA aircraft its not really a big deal but when I am bringing a default 737-800 or my CLS A310 in on approach, I absolutely lose the ability to predict what my throttle is going to do based on where I have my lever positioned. I am not sure if FSUIPC can correct this, and I am apparently not intelligent enough to comprehend the manual without some plain talk help from some one who has used the program. @Word Not Allowed - thank you for your help. I apologize for posting to the wrong forum, I understand my n00b questions must be quite tiresome for you.
