  1. I'm guessing it's DXT 5 or something as opposed to 32 bit. Sort of like a compression algorithm, but that's all guessing
  2. I did notice how old the post was, but I figured that it was a good topic and I'm sure somebody, somewhere will be able to reference some info from this later on. The 8x SGSS issue alone was enough to make me post because nobody mentioned it before. That setting alone is probably whats was doing him in...I would guess that it would be the equivalent of running 16x MSAA, and on a GTX 650Ti, is an unnecessary burden.
  3. You are supposed to modify the fsx.cfg..not the fsx.cfg.txt. From your fsx.cfg it appeared as though you are missing [bufferpools] ..you have the bufferpools setting, but no title. That could just be you didn't copy that part, in which case no big deal, but if it's missing from the .cfg then you should put that in. And that 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling is way too much work for your card (and mine too.. 670GTX SLI) I am successfully using 8xCSAA with 4x SGSS and both my cards are getting up to 80C when in heavy clouds. I also noticed that you are not in the FSX profile, and those settings are in the Global profile in Nvidia Inspector. I'm not sure that it makes that much of a difference, but your other games may suffer. You know what I would actually do in this situation? I would just rename fsx.cfg to fsx.cfg.old...run FSX and then escape out. Take your newly created FSX.cfg and upload it to Bojotes website, where it will add a bunch of tweaks. Since you don't run with any ground or air traffic or Autogen, you should be getting a solid 60FPS, and you will after doing the bojotes tweaks. If you don't, then I would start to troubleshoot the computer and not the game.
  4. Thanks for that information, and I was somewhat hesitant to lower the LOD, but maybe that will produce a good increase in FPS. The only time I got an OOM was running the DRZ New York addon. That was a bummer too because I saw these excellent clips on Youtube showing off the detail of NYC and it was running smooth as silk. When I tried it, it was HORRIBLE and then crash. I found out later that it might have been filmed at 15 frames per sec and then just played back at 2X. Something was definitely different from my machine to what the clip showed. Yeah man, whenever you get a chance, I'd love to see what you've come up with as far as the config goes, and I'd like to know what you have changed so
  5. Thanks for covering the topic of P3D. I'll be coming here more often because I'm not finding as much good info as FSX has. I know the PDF you made is a few months old, but a couple of things concerned me with your choice of tweaks. For one, you mentioned that you play in windowed mode, yet you only have the ForceFullScreenVSync=1 command, and I was under the impression that for windowed mode, you would use ForceWindowedVSync=1. The other thing that piqued my curiosity is the HIMEMFIX command you have. Now I'm familiar with using it in FSX, but is it needed in P3D? And do you know if there's any detrimental effects in case it's not needed? Detrimental like excessive RAM usage? Also I did not see an Affinity mask command, and that is one of the best tweaks IMO. I have similiar class hardware as you, but maybe a little newer. I5 3570K @4.5// 8GB DDR3@ 1600/ GTX 670 2GB and a lot of ORBX pay and freeware, and a slew of different Carenado, Alebeo, PMDG, a couple of A2A planes, and a few Aerosoft's planes, and some others Plus I'm using ORBX, REX, and quite a few different airports and stuff. similar to you for the most part, but I'm not completely satisfied with how it's running, and I"m hoping to pick up a few tricks hanging out around here. In the meantime, I'll give your tweaks a test drive and see how they do.
  6. Dude!! I found some interesting things along the way here. So far the most dramatic change came from [bufferPools] usepools=0 It's starting to look good again. Of course I have no add ons installed and I'm only doing the default 109 ranch flight in a friggin ultralight, but I'm now getting solid 40 FPS and it doesn't look so jumpy and "wavy" as it did before. It's starting to look hopeful because I was about to throw in the towel and call it quits. So what I've done is minimal so far but I'll recap on my tweaks. I scrapped the bojote CFG and went with default. I have the bufferpools thing. My affinity mask is 60..so it's using 4 of my 6 cores...I have the himem fix and the disable preload and that is it for the .CFG tweaks. I have my Nvidia CP set for FXAA, High quality textures, max pre-rendered frames set to 3 as opposed to application controlled, finally triple buffering and vsync on...not adaptive..yet. I also have the external frame limiter modified for 40FPS and my internal limiter set to 48FPS and so far it is pretty darn good. I'll keep posting here on any new developments. Hey Krister, don't give up man....Not if you love flying the sim as much as I do.
  7. Yeah, I know your frustration buddy and I actually found the thread you are talking about http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=369500 ....Your situation though sounds somewhat fixable. If it worked great the night before and now it doesn't, it might be something running in the background on your computer...Like maybe a task setup to run at a certain time. You know, I'm a suspicious sort of person and I was thinking about the possibility of Microsoft planting something on my system to get me to buy into the new "Flight".....Anyway, I'm going to try the steps on that thread after my torrents are done. I'll be back to give any worthy advice if it turns out good.
  8. Hey I'm struggling with this same exact issue with an msi GTX560Ti. I used to have a GTX 275 with my hexacore AMD and I never got below 24 frames a second...EVER! Well maybe around New York and Seattle in a thunderstorm, but everywhere else was really smooth and playable. But now with this new card it's very weird. With no limiter I can see my sim hit extremely low frames right when the frame counter is telling me I'm in the 80-100 FPS and even if the frame counter is showing 24-40 frames, it feels really herky-jerky and unplayable. Now I've been playing FSX since I had an 8800GT and I'm very familiar with the tweaking aspect and never before did I have to use a frame limiter and never before did the game seem so...crappy. Let me start at the beginning of this dillema. I've had FSX uninstalled for some time due to hard drive space. Just got a new HD and set up it's own 150GB partition specifically for the sim. Installed the first disks..ran through default flight, installed Acceleration ran through the default flight. Totally unplayable (5-100FPS) with relatively moderate settings. My monitors default resolution is 1360x768 ...so by no means am I coming close to maxing anything out in that regard. I have not installed a single add on yet. Did the tweaking tool and setup external limiter and some others tweaks and with the default flight I'm staying right around the 30FPS mark, but it's not a smooth 30FPS...It's still jerky and in my opinion not playable compared to how it used to play with my old hardware. I'm starting to think that this vid card is not suitable for this sim and I've also noticed that my Windows Experience Index shows my card at 7.1 when my GTX275 was 7.4!?!?...Everything else plays great. This all happened today, so tomorrow I'm going to try some new (different) things and if it's a no go, then I guess it's bye bye to FSX and hello to ....something else like XPlane 10 or Prepar3d. It's really sad because I've got nice addons for FSX. In the meantime, does anybody have any explanation, or better yet a solution to this weird issue?
