  1. Recently solved a really annoying problem I had after going through all the normal routes, flushing shader cache, etc. After deciding to try out Kostas tweaks to FSX including CFG changes, I had the attached screen showing on the free flight screen for all aircraft, this was replicated in game. Long story short and after following several dead ends, I discovered the problem was caused by having shader 3.0 mod installed and having reset the fsx.cfg file which removed a required line from the config file that shader 3.0 requires. Simply uninstalling the shader 3 mod and flushing the shader cache resolved it. As the problem was caused by a missing line from the fsx.cfg which is added in the shader 3.0 installation if one had this problem and then wanted to reinstall shader 3.0 this shouldn't cause a problem. 2. "You got a response and you decide to ignore it." I was away on business when you posted and didn't get the notification until just prior to my response. The post above directs you to our website where you will find comprehensive instructions on how to join the VA. All of our pilot's applications have been actioned within 48 hours which is quicker than other VAs I've flown for. "But hey, your an officer aren't you." Seem's a rather needless comment. You have the opinion that all Officers are impolite? If I came across as rude by not responding I apologise, I have iterated the reasons for this above. "Flying trips in the default caravan is certainly not 'my cup of tea', sorry." OK. there's no obligation to join, and many other VAs which will cater to what you want. and since the promo was made we have expanded, now flying the King Air and Islander. Also the promo features the Carenado C208B Caravan. "If you want to make your VA popular maybe you should do the same?" I still think you misunderstand what our VA is about. We appreciate that we won't be the VA for everyone and we make this clear. Those pilots that want to just fly the 737 should probably look elsewhere. What we offer is the opportunity to join a VA at the start of it's life, fly routes, earn money and know that when we buy a new aircraft a part of that is down to your individual effort. We think that this will appeal to a section of FSX users and only time will tell if we are correct. I don't wish to get into an argument, we're not selling a product here, we're just offering a different VA experience, that encourages shared cockpit flying, that shows you the results of your flying, runs regular events and offers something a bit different.
  3. Hi guys. I used to be an SAR pilot in the RAF, now flying Chinook. There is a network of satellites, SARSAT and COSPAS which monitor 243.0. They used to monitor 121.5 as well but that was turned off a few years ago. All new radios/EPIRBS/PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons) now use 243, and most sent a GPS data burst every 5 seconds. So the procedure would be: Aircraft ditches. You heroically save the crew and passengers. In your dinghy you pull the toggle to activate your PLB. After 2 hits from a beacon your distress beacon signal is forwarded to the nearest ARCC (Aeronautical rescue coordination centre). The ARCC will scramble the appropriate assets, in the doldrums (the windless area I think you mean), this would most likely be a long range SAR platform such as the USCG C-130 or as it used to be a RAF Nimrod : (. This aircraft will drop off a survival pack which will contain food, water, first aid kits, etc. The ARCC will also scramble intercept naval assets who will recover you if you are out of helo range, more than about 240nm from shore. So that's what would happen. If as you say you have a slightly more laissez-faire attitude to survival and only have an ICOM you would most likely transmit on Ch16, the distress channel which would be picked up by a nearby ship. If you transmitted on 121.5 a jetliner could pick up your transmission up to about 15-20nm laterally given a FL300ish as a cruise level, If they are monitoring it. There is no regulation I'm aware of that states it must be monitored, but airmanship would dictate that if you are not using a radio stick it on 121.5 or 243. I have used airliners numerous times on the distress frequency to act as a comm relay when we are not in range of any other rescue assets and need to pass a message. Hope this helps Dave Keep the blue side up.
  4. Eclipse Virtual launched this weekend. www.eclipsevirtual.com We are striving to set ourselves apart from other VAs in the following ways; We are a start up airline, our first aircraft is the Cessna C208B caravan. Only through our pilots flying do we generate revenue to buy new aircraft types and expand. On our Board of Directors we have RL pilots with careers in civilian and military flying on hand to offer advice and complete training flights using the shared cockpit feature. Our pilots can subscribe to our charter service. This feature allows the pilot to specify how often and the average duration of flights, we then generate flights to fulfil those criteria outside our scheduled route database. This ensures a new challenge and a different route each time you fly. We understand that there are many well established VAs out there and the choice can be overwhelming, but we have created Eclipse building on our own experiences of flying for those airlines. We know we offer a more involved experience that will constantly give you new, varied challenges. Join today at www.eclipsevirtual.com.
