But he's already said he doesn't have the space for a TV.

Are you serious about TVs having better quality control than monitors? Mine came with a calibration report for colour accuracy that makes it 100% sRGB. Doubt you'll get any TV to that standard unless it's professionally ISF calibrated and is high quality.

If you're referring to dead pixels then I haven't seen any on any monitor I've bought in the last 12 years.

Your 65" is certainly immersive but spreading 3840 horizontal pixels over that size compared to a smaller monitor will mean text is not as sharp. You can have immersion and fine detail but not both with either TVs or monitors. The user chooses.

From my experience; yes I would have to make the statement that TV's seem to be of a more consistent panel quality control than dedicated monitors these days.

Of course price range will play a part - a high end monitor will likely be better than a cheaper, larger TV.

I'm not advocating everyone gets 4K TV's over monitors for desktop use and I don't expect most folks to buy a £2.5K TV like my Sony XE93 just for PC use - its extravagant and I concede that.

    However, since getting into flight sim's roughly 6 years ago I've used a 24" 1200p, 32" 1440p, 43" 4K and 34" 1440p Ultrawide - nothing even comes close to the immersive "experience" of the large 65" 4K.

Yes, the pixel density of 2160p over a 65" screen will have an effect on text clarity. However, with windows display scaling its perfectly usable for day-to-day pc usage (I'm sitting typing this on it now) - and it really shines when running a sim.

In a contest between TV's vs monitors at a given price range, my money would always be on the TV's having better quality control and less issues such as dead pixels, backlight bleed, IPS glow etc.

With LG showcasing their new OLED variable refresh rate 120Hz TV's at CES last month, its clear that dedicated "gaming" monitor tech is beginning to transfer over to higher end TV's, these are likely to be epic!

  2. Steer well clear of SLI - even in "normal" games its a hit or a miss, its generally accepted that SLI is not a good idea for P3D.

I would always advocate getting this single most powerful Nvidia GPU you can afford for P3D.

With AMD's Radeon VII about to launch it could force Nvidia prices down (if it performs), so either hang off and hopefully see price drop on new Nvidia cards or try to find a second hand 1080Ti (that hasn't been abused by a crypto-miner)

  3. If it's primarily for flight sim's, and you have the space - get a 4K TV.

You'll get more bang for buck on screen real estate, and TV's have far better quality control than monitors these days. Even on high-end monitors you will no doubt be playing the "panel lottery".

For reference, I run an RTX2080 and it powers my 65" Sony XE93 TV beautifully.

  4. Hi guys,

Quick question regarding the new RXP 530 as a popout.

I used the legacy RXP 530 a few years ago on the Emuteq Garsim panel, at the time I was using FSX and P3D v2 and I found there was a brutal fps hit as soon as the popout window was undocked and dragged over to the Emuteq. It was so bad I abandoned the Emuteq and boxed it away in the attic (it's still there). Would love to be able to being it back to my P3D v4.4 sim with the new RXP 530, is there still a large performance impact with the new GNS popout on second screen?

    Cheers

    Gordon

  5. Would love to have the JS back in my hanger, thoroughly missed flying her since moving from FSX to P3D v3, then v4.

Regional props are my thing, I spend most of my P3D v4 hours in the Majestic Q400 - really looking forward to both the JS and Flight1 KingAir for v4.

I have no expectation of release date, I'd rather it took a while longer and came out the stable polished.

    Measure twice, cut once.

    Hi Gordon

Welcome to the LINDA community forum. I can not tell you directly whether LINDA will work with your CP Flight MCP as I have no direct experience. LINDA will work with most devices than generate a button push that can be detected by FSUIPC (full version). It will only work with knobs if they also generate a series of button pushes when they are rotated. The biggest problem you will have is out of data to any displays.

LINDA was originally designed and built around the VRi Combo MCP panels. It works with both the Boeing and Airbus variants.

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks for that Andrew.

Can you comment on the quality/feel of the vrinsight mcp?

Being used to using a high quality product like the CP flight mcp has spoiled me and makes me steer away from cheaper/lesser hardware panels.

If the vrinsight 737 mcp is a good quality unit then I'll definitely pick one up as I've been itching to give Linda a try for my other add-on aircraft, using the mouse to interact with the controls is a major immersion killer.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have the following issue?

When I change views using the razor, a couple of the keys will extend and retract the flaps as well.

Does anyone know how to stop that from happening?

    cheers,

    Colin

Delete the default key assignments for those other functions.

  8. Hi guys, I was thinking about giving Linda a try for various aircraft that I normally have to use the mouse to interact with. I currently have a CP flight 737 MCP (EL version) and efis panel which is ideal for 737 operations but I'm getting a bit bored of the 737 and would like to start using different aircraft in the sim; does Linda interact with this type of hardware or would I need to get something more generic like vr insight mcp or goflight mcp panels?

    Cheers

  9. Hi,

    Firstly congratulations on the release.

I was an RXP user years ago, I had your gns 530 running on an Emuteq Gns 530 panel. I did however make the jump to p3d v2 very quickly so I had to abandon that setup, sad day!

Does the gtn 750 touch actually support a touch interface via a third party device. I.e. can we unlock the 2d gauge to a touch screen monitor or tablet somehow? Using the mouse on the gauge kills realism.

    Thanks

    Gordon

  10. I've also been having this autogen issue with v4 - I've created a thread on the LM forums but haven't had any feedback yet:

    http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=125808

I've just done a "quick and dirty" test:

With settings pretty much maxed out I took off from Manchester EGCC in the Carenado Citation and flew to Gatwick EGKK but stayed at 3000ft @ 280knts the entire flight and I had thick, luscious autogen out to the horizon for the entire flight.

Restarted the sim, same settings and the same flight - but this time I climbed hard out of EGCC to FL300 then bascially glided back down on approach to EGKK. In this second sceneario I had the autogen problem, once I descened through the cloud base at around 5000ft and the ground came into sharp view I had absolutely no autogen to the horizon in any direction. I flew on at 4000ft for about 4 minutes and some autogen started to sporadically render, it wasn't until I paused the sim for about 1 minute that my autogen came back to normal!

All other elements of the scenery were perfect - beatiful sharp textures.

No lag or stuttering and my fps were solid the entire flight.

    Odd!

  11. I believe there is an issue with scenery add-ons that aren't built with the P3Dv4 sdk having a dramatic effect on fps with dynamic lighting.

Hopefully as scenery developers start releasing add-ons built purely with the v4 sdk we will see an improvement in performance with dynamic lighting.
