But very few of us are interested in that aspect.
So what's your point? It's their time and money for hosting, they can do what they want and it's great that they offer what they do for anyone else to try out to see if they enjoy too.
-
Well you can do API versioning to mitigate that to an extent.
Moving to a subscription model would help too, personally would rather do that than th old buy a version model with all the hassle to the ecology that entails, look at CCP and Eve Online for how successful that is in terms of managing one codebase.

I asked the developer about Windows 8 and the response was:
"VoxATC works on Windows 8, but you will need to install .Net version 3.5 if you have not already done so. It's available here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21"

I've also got Windows 8 and am thinking of buying Voxatc uk, would be interested to hear if it works on Windows 8 before trying out the demo and wasting the 7 days.

A number of us Flight1 Mustang users are unable to use this aircraft since updating our OS to Windows 8 (i.e. Windows 8 Pro 64bit) and the developer (Jim Rhoads) has indicated that they will not look to resolve the issue until such time they know Windows 8 is solid, possibly a SP1 release in order to avoid unnecessary work, which is a valid position to take.
In the meantime I would like to ask has anyone got their Flight 1 Mustang working under Windows 8 and what if anything did you need to do?
Al an alternative one of us customers swapped out the Garmin 1000 gauge for the default and the aircraft works although without a major feature set.
Has anyone used the Mindstar Garmin 1000 with the Flight 1 Mustang and if so what part of the feature set did you loose please?
Any replies would be appreciated, thanks.

What's wrong with the title? The OP is just saying their belief is that they believe people won't regret downloading a free flight sim and trying it out. Some people will like it and some people won't but I don't think anyone will really regret just trying something out they don't have to pay for.
After getting my add ons all working together in FSX I feel like I'm building a sim anyway!
-
It doesn't make it better but it's like your bashing some freeware aircraft producer because their release isn't as good as PMDG.
Personally will download and try out Flightgear thanks to this thread.

Would also recommend Aivlasoft EFB, it's transformational especially when used with something like the Feelthere Phenom 100 as suddenly you have a very powerful avionics suite!
-
Mgh, I think you're totally justified in asking for a refund!

This was an amazing event, well done everyone! Would be great to do more!

Todler meltdowns this morning made me run out of time setting things up and everything I'd read up on flew out of my head :(, need to go practice on VATSIM with some live ATC. Off to donate though and good luck everyone.

I don't know what takes the lions share of development, the research, algorithms and building up the base of knowledge or the code and modelling, with A2A I would think the actual IT spend wouldn't be the lions share of the project, but this is just a guess based on commercial projects I work on.
FSX is strong but doesn't have a future, personally I suspect the next version of P3D or X-Plane will create a gap that no amount of FSX add-ons will fix. Agree DCS needs filling out and by its nature is not the 'living' world that FSX conveys.
My statement was based on flying both the A2A Mustang and DCS Mustang, it just seems the DCS Mustang wants to ground loop easily, the only people to really know are P51 pilots. For takeoffs I follow Dudley Henriques excellent guide which I found to be more applicable to the DCS Mustang, probably because of the more detailed modelling as outlined by jcomm.
-
And I would love to see what A2A would do in DCS with their warbirds given what you say.
With the DCS Mustang I wonder if it ground loops too readily as it seems to want to if you look at it funny with one squinted eye, but with both I love the feeling you get of the aircraft changing on takeoff and landing with different speeds, RPM etc

You want people to post here if they are wanting to join?
If so am hoping to do:
09:15 - 10:45
Minneapolis KMSP - Chicago KORD
KMSP COULT4.DLL JVL.BULLZ3 KORD
A2A - P51D Civilian
Just need to get some Vatsim practice in before Saturday and fly the route a few times.
-
With the cub I can stand on the brakes and lift the tail up with the prop wash so A2A's modelling is not bad.
Just wish A2A would port their warbirds to DCS as would classic hangers with their FW-190's.....
-
Having Orbx, Opus, FSX, Accufeel I think A2A aircraft are up there with DCS in terms of feel and also things like the Milviz Sabre and RealAir Legacy etc. Of course systems in DCS are at a level that maybe only PMDG comes close to and the Dodsim 206 is the only helicopter worth flying apart from the DCS Ka50.
I own and enjoy both sims and generally for different things.
-
Avsim I've always thought of as GA type simming not military for DCS have always gone to the Eagle Dynamics forums.
DCS is a fantastic sim, very deep but as pointed out above it needs more to do and also for me I want to fight all over the world, not the same piece of it since LOMAC days.
-
And after a while I've found I'm using Rex textures with Opus doing the camera and weather, combined with Accufeel I now feel I've got FSX XI.
-
Was lost in the AVSIM rebuild but ended up buying the Baytower RV7, great aircraft and nicely done in FSX, would highly recommend.
BTW There is an issue with the XML - RXP integration in Windows 8, the Menu button in the VC brings up windows narrator, use the 2D popup as a workaround for that button.
-
I went from FS 2004 to XP 9 to FSX and what drove my directions was what could be done with the sim + add ons.
Currently my sim of choice is FSX + Orbx + Accufeel + REX & OpusFSX with A2A, RealAir, Aerosoft, Eaglesoft aircraft, which gets me a great experience but is no way perfect.
When XP + add ons exceeds this will probably move again, could be P3D, just don't know at this time.
One thing that XP has right now that FS doesn't is a future.
-
After reading this thread am now interested in the RV-7 and / or Katana, is it a one or the other question or both?
-
I want to be able to choose my complexity based on the aircraft modeled rather than what the developer decided to leave in or out. Two extremes are the A2A Cub and PMDG 737, bother have great simulation and the complexity is determined by the aircraft itself. Another example would be the DCS P51 and Ka50 for example, one is easier to fly and fight simply because the aircraft has simpler systems.
Saying that I also enjoy the Feelthere Phenom 100 but would buy an 'accu sim' quality version of that aircraft in an instant if they did one because the aircraft systems hit a usability sweet spot.
-
Any chance of posting it up in Avsim files pls?

I would suggest the following combination:
Carenado A36 Bonanza.
Reality XP Garmin 430
A2A Civ Mustang
The combination allows you to have a light GA that can fly into small strips however with the RXP 430 you have a real world Garmin unit that can be updated with 2011 data which gives you proper approaches etc. The Civ Mustang now gives you what I consider the best single piston engine GA aircraft you could fly as it is a beast that can do 1,500 miles at 400mph! Looks, flies and sounds awesome!
Of course you can swap out the Mustang for the Real Air Legacy, but would suggest eventually owning all three.
Give it a try, I believe you won't regret...

Fine, if you're not interested in it then uninstall it and walk away, don't bash them for it.
