  1. A number of us Flight1 Mustang users are unable to use this aircraft since updating our OS to Windows 8 (i.e. Windows 8 Pro 64bit) and the developer (Jim Rhoads) has indicated that they will not look to resolve the issue until such time they know Windows 8 is solid, possibly a SP1 release in order to avoid unnecessary work, which is a valid position to take.

In the meantime I would like to ask has anyone got their Flight 1 Mustang working under Windows 8 and what if anything did you need to do?

Al an alternative one of us customers swapped out the Garmin 1000 gauge for the default and the aircraft works although without a major feature set.

Has anyone used the Mindstar Garmin 1000 with the Flight 1 Mustang and if so what part of the feature set did you loose please?

Any replies would be appreciated, thanks.

  2. What's wrong with the title? The OP is just saying their belief is that they believe people won't regret downloading a free flight sim and trying it out. Some people will like it and some people won't but I don't think anyone will really regret just trying something out they don't have to pay for.

After getting my add ons all working together in FSX I feel like I'm building a sim anyway! :)

  3. I don't know what takes the lions share of development, the research, algorithms and building up the base of knowledge or the code and modelling, with A2A I would think the actual IT spend wouldn't be the lions share of the project, but this is just a guess based on commercial projects I work on.

FSX is strong but doesn't have a future, personally I suspect the next version of P3D or X-Plane will create a gap that no amount of FSX add-ons will fix. Agree DCS needs filling out and by its nature is not the 'living' world that FSX conveys.

My statement was based on flying both the A2A Mustang and DCS Mustang, it just seems the DCS Mustang wants to ground loop easily, the only people to really know are P51 pilots. For takeoffs I follow Dudley Henriques excellent guide which I found to be more applicable to the DCS Mustang, probably because of the more detailed modelling as outlined by jcomm.

  4. Was lost in the AVSIM rebuild but ended up buying the Baytower RV7, great aircraft and nicely done in FSX, would highly recommend.

BTW There is an issue with the XML - RXP integration in Windows 8, the Menu button in the VC brings up windows narrator, use the 2D popup as a workaround for that button.

  5. I went from FS 2004 to XP 9 to FSX and what drove my directions was what could be done with the sim + add ons.

Currently my sim of choice is FSX + Orbx + Accufeel + REX & OpusFSX with A2A, RealAir, Aerosoft, Eaglesoft aircraft, which gets me a great experience but is no way perfect.

When XP + add ons exceeds this will probably move again, could be P3D, just don't know at this time.

One thing that XP has right now that FS doesn't is a future.

  6. I want to be able to choose my complexity based on the aircraft modeled rather than what the developer decided to leave in or out. Two extremes are the A2A Cub and PMDG 737, bother have great simulation and the complexity is determined by the aircraft itself. Another example would be the DCS P51 and Ka50 for example, one is easier to fly and fight simply because the aircraft has simpler systems.

Saying that I also enjoy the Feelthere Phenom 100 but would buy an 'accu sim' quality version of that aircraft in an instant if they did one because the aircraft systems hit a usability sweet spot.

  7. I would suggest the following combination:

    Carenado A36 Bonanza.

    Reality XP Garmin 430

    A2A Civ Mustang

The combination allows you to have a light GA that can fly into small strips however with the RXP 430 you have a real world Garmin unit that can be updated with 2011 data which gives you proper approaches etc. The Civ Mustang now gives you what I consider the best single piston engine GA aircraft you could fly as it is a beast that can do 1,500 miles at 400mph! Looks, flies and sounds awesome!

Of course you can swap out the Mustang for the Real Air Legacy, but would suggest eventually owning all three.
