  1. What's obviously missing from that list?

It's not a comprehensive list but if you're refering to the underling engine I think that something as light as possible with an extensible architecture and well defined versioned APIs, standards etc is better than a 'try and boil the ocean' solution. How many developers work around the limitations of FSX and end up bypassing the core. Building flexibility and extensibility into the engine would be much better than trying to cover all systems itself.

  2. Great discussion here. I am with Ron (Hope you are doing well Ron!), buy both . A couple days ago, Jim and the dev team updated our Mustang and 182 to work with Windows 8 and both now include Navdatapro support.

Epic!!!! Just updated it now and seeing those lovely screens alive!

With that I and the fact both are supported by Navigraph would say no question, get both as they are totally different aircraft, flip a coin to see which one you get first.

  3. For me is cost, always not having enough money to start with a family, second one on the way. BTW I earn a good salary so would say forget even average earning people being able to fly. In the YK is very expensive.

However in a sim I can fly anywhere or anything I want so not really missing it much. In the future who knows.

  4. I'm using Aivlasoft EFB, Navigraph charts along with VoxATC and with the Citation X they work very well. Use the charts and EFB to set up the route, activate to FSX and then save the flight, the route can then be imported into the FMS and VoxATC will pick it up. A small amount of duplication in flight adding departures, arrivals and approaches to the FMS and EFB but adding to the latter is like a 2 second job so no big deal and well worth it to have the moving progress display.

EFB is good but isn't so smooth on procedural turns and no holds that I know of but as you say it brings a lot of capability to aircraft that otherwise would be left out of the whole nav picture. Like Opus, Rex and Accufeel, a must have add on.

  5. For the reality XP 430 / 530s you have no choice but to enter it 'in sim'. What I'm looking for is avionics that allows me to fly in Vatsim, so routes, SIDs, STARs, holds etc.

Desktop simulation has been used a number of times as a procedural trainer from the mil version of DCS A-10 to Feelthere's jets to A2A'a 377, maybe an industry wide API would be good so that Garmin etc can provide it on their trainers and developers of aircraft dont have to try and replicate the whole back end. If not the OEMs then could be 3rd party's doing the back end systems. It's not sustainable as it is.

  6. The Reality XP model does however lend itself to having one back end system interfacing to many sims via a stub i.e. FSX/P3d?X Plane etc Ideally it would be good to run it as a process on a networked machine as a bonus.....

Back to Mustang vs Citation X, after two flights in the X am starting to get to know it a bit more and once you get to start to know its differences you'll like it. Whoever decided to put the taxi and landing lights near the throttles instead of next to the other external lights should be shot!!!!

It's an awesome aircraft and an awesome simulation of the aircraft, glad I bought it.

  7. Something to consider is AivlaSoft EFB which will give you modern nav to aircraft that use the default GPS functionality of FSX, so you can have proper SID's, STARs route tracking TOC, TOD etc This would open the door to aircraft like the Feelthere Phenom 100 and Lionheart Epic Victory for you to use but with a bit more nav capability.

At the moment the Phenom 100 (with Aivlasoft EFB) is filling the gap for me with the F1 Mustang and I also own the Citation X V2 as that does high and fast as well as have the legs to go long distances. For a more involved (as in workload) but still highish and fast for GA experience the A2A P51D Civ Mustang (with Reality XP 430) fits the bill.

The Citation X for me requires more study and going through the videos compared to the F1 as the avionics don't have the same ease of use of a Garmin 1000 but this is due to the aircraft not the simulation. However after setting up the FADEC and throttles am about to give it a proper first flight. I also own the CJ1+ but haven't learnt the systems yet as different from the 1000 / 430 type, I suspect after learning the Citation X the CJ1+ will be easy to pick up.

  8. In the UK we would class this as a permanent change in pricing structure, in this case products decrease in price as they reach age thresholds. A 'Sale' would imply that an older product would decrease in price for x amount of time then increase back to its original price pre sale, that is not what Orbx are indicating here.

  9. Helen, you might want to have a look at VoxATC as it also has VFR and the selling point for me was that it uses speech recognition so I'm talking to ATC and getting the responses back, I bought it to learn how to live on VATSIM and I'm starting to reply to ATC without having to look at what to read so it's already working.
