  • About Me
Work in the entertainment industry and travel the world for a living, averaging about 100,000 air miles a year.
  1. I believe that release is imminent Ryan. Next day or so (if not already) according to a Marketing Email i've just received from Christian. Looking forward to it. Cheers Smiffy
  2. Thus my mention of; Far too many people here forget that many, many, many people have English as a second, or maybe even fourth or fifth language and seem to lack the critical abilities to read between the lines. I appreciate that if you rarely if ever venture beyond the English speaking world that that can be easy to forget, but we are, are we not, attempting to simulate Aviation. That beautiful endeavour that has single handedly turned the world into one cosmopolitan global village made up of billions of people, and thousands (millions perhaps?) of languages... Just to re-iterate... A little more humility and understanding from everyone in this great little community of ours could make a massive difference to everyones enjoyment of it. Cheers Smiffy
  3. Oh good lord. Take some criticism for crying out loud. The only way to improve and learn in ANY endeavour is to receive feedback and criticism, and if you are going to go out and post things on youtube you are going to open yourself up to it. Language Barriers can mean that criticism's from those who do not have English as a first language often come over as harsh as the vocabulary to 'fluff it up' isn't always available, but nevertheless, the guy took time out of his day to say 'hey, i see you doing this, you might consider it good practice to do it this way because of X...' and you jump on the defensive... As Jeff says above, there are way too many childish pissing contests here, where perceived slights, false offense, and ego driven face saving take precedence over actually learning something new. Nobody, not even Boeing's Chief 777 Pilot would ever claim to have ALL of the answers when it comes to their aircraft, so any opportunity to expand ones knowledge must surely be a good opportunity no? I think if EVERYONE in FS Land tried to be a little more humble, then this community might actually start making some progress towards being a somewhat friendlier place. Cheers Smiffy

Never say that! There's no such thing as a stupid question (sadly contrary to what a very noisy minority here would have you believe). Nobody is expected to know everything. You've made a point, and some possible answers were presented. You've been left enlightened, all is good with the world. If i don't know something, I ask. In online forums for anything, you will usually get an answer. Sadly you will also get a load of kids (or those with the mental age of 15) attempting to belittle and demean from the anonymous safety of their keyboards. A sad state of affairs, but cest la vie. Cheers S
  5. Glad you got it fixed. And thank you for coming back and letting us know what solved it. So many people just don't bother, leaving nought but frustration in their wake when someone with a similar issue locates the thread in a search only to find all the symptoms and none of the solutions.
  6. You can only do a gentile descent while eating a Bacon Sandwich. Using all of the tools available... VNav, LVL Chg, VS and the speed brake, you'll always be able to get her down, and slowed up sufficiently to make the approach, the trick as always is to be ahead of the aircraft. As with many of the previous posts, remember always that the FMC will always do what it's told. It is unable to think critically, or indeed at all.
  7. The problems have with the 787 is that having now flown business with Qatar, it's ruined flying for me forever.... I don't think any other airline or aircraft at the moment can measure up! History tells us that the primary suspect is the batteries, but in reality, until Boeing and the AIB release the report, we'll never know for sure. As far as teething issues go, let's not forget that the A380 had a world of issues, the Comet too, the 777's had a couple and the 737 isn't exactly an aircraft with a sparkling history of not crashing is it... Boeings biggest problem is the nosedive its share price took yesterday, I'd say at this stage, you are quite okay to fly on a 787, and you'll find that in the current climate, your average 787 jockey is probably being a bit more vigilant than usual in terms if their scans, and even deeper systems checks.
  8. If you had the slightest bit of respect and the ability to do a smidgen of research, you'd know precisely that CIVA has given up many, many, many hours of his own time to educate hundreds, and maybe even thousands, of virtual pilots in the VA world and beyond. Like many of us Old Farts, CIVA is simply bored of watching the forums here deteriorate from being a place of fun, respectful and informative discussion amongst people with a genuine passion for aviation, into a world of flame-wars and backbiting, sprinkled not so liberally with massive levels of intolerance. It's sad to see. The likes of young Luke are merely a vocal and therefore obvious target, there are many more. The trouble with youth is that, as we all did when young, you just don't know what you don't know. Anyone that goes to the time and trouble to write a tutorial should be applauded, however, just because someone can write a tutorial, it doesn't mean that they know what they are doing. A lot of people here talk a good flight, but when it comes to the nitty gritty, cannot truly read and understand an FCOM, AMM, or SOP document, or even an approach plate, and in the process spread a lot of misinformation and cause bad habits. Like myself, and i'm sure many others, CIVA is bored of the fan-worship culture here, and occasionally takes a dig. In this instance, Luke, the self professed fountain of all 777 knowledge ballsed up and opened himself up to ridicule. Ive seen many, many, many threads here where Luke has been the first to ridicule. If you want to be able to dish it out, expect to have to take it. Now.... When's the 777 out? Many thanks Paul. Long time Flight Simmer Former CEO of BA Virtual Author of Many, Many documents for BAV Still learning after all these years. Yes, i get my satisfaction from being able to truly fly things as real as they get. CIVA has given up MANY hours of his time to teach me.
