  1. My VATSIM instructor gave me a pdf of the 7110.65 (ATC phraseology) which is a 5MB pdf :o and very useful for VATSIM, but I have no idea where he found it. Where would I find the rest of the regs?
  2. Thank you for reminding me of these services. Didn't know FSS and 1800wxbrief were one and the same. I thought they had, just wasn't sure, so i put "yet." Glad to hear it was approved. Good to know. Thank you for clarifying. I will keep this in mind for my training. Couldn't agree more. Thank you for clarifying everything. I should start looking into the rules and regs more, especially if I'm going to be a real world pilot. On the side, thank you for all of your help in the NGX forums. You've helped countless of simmers understand your awesome aircraft. Keep up the good work!
  3. Sure. For any pilot, if you end up in an accident, and wx is deemed to be a factor, the FAA is going to check if you got a full weather briefing. Not just an ATIS or a TAF, a full wx briefing. As of right now, that is limited to a FSS or 1-800 WX BRIEF. Even getting the wx from ForeFlight on an iPad doesn't quite count (yet). Enter SkyVector. Their new briefing option includes a wx briefing, which I believe uses data from 1800 WX BRIEF. What I meant by my comment is we shall see if the SkyVector briefing becomes an FAA certified full wx briefing because it uses 1800 WX BRIEF data. codeshris: Yes and no it is for real. They include the FAA AFD in their pages, and all the charts are procedures are the real charts. Was it an official source for nav charts: no. But since they added a filing option, my question is: Who/where are they filing the flight plan? I understand in the past it was totally not for official use, but why call the button "Briefing and Filing" if they're not actually filing it to anywhere official? Is it just to give it more realism? Edit: Just checked their "Flight Planning and Filing Pilot's Guide" where it states "Press the "File Flight Plan" button to transmit your plan to Flight Services. Once it is in their system you can amend or cancel it through SkyVector, over the phone with FSS, or by using the web portal at 1800wxbrief.com. IFR Flights can be amended or canceled until 30 minutes before ETD. At that point you must contact ATC directly." So SkyVector can now file flight plans to flight services. It is for real world use after all (or this is the largest hoax I've ever seen).
  4. Skyvector is also a good source for US plates. They also just recently introduced a flight plan filing and briefing capability for real world fliers. We'll see if it stands the test of FAA regs. :/
  5. Exactly. From page 36 in the "PMDG 737NGX Introduction" pdf: "There is a common misconception that when loading a complex simulation like the PMDG 737NGX that you should first load the default Cessna into the simulator, then load the PMDG 737NGX on top of it. This is not a factual conception and in fact we do not recommend the practice at all." Overall, I would reset the default flight to the original trike with no panel changes. Then load up the NGX, select from the FMC a panel state to load, and then make it the default panel state to load, or from a PMDG panel state create your own panel state and save that, all using the FMC. As a general rule, any "trick" that has been developed over the years for FSX will not play nicely with the PMDG. It is a complex aircraft designed to work with an "un-tricked" as you would call it FSX, including the default flight. Don't forget to have fun! Edit: I have another question. I want another aircraft with the Southwest livery with a different tial number. What do I need to do?
  6. This makes a lot more sense than my theory. Good job.
  7. Are you saying that the freq only goes up to 118.xx? Sounds like a NAV frequency. IF that's not what you're saying, can you clarify what your problem is?
  8. Unless they've changed it in P3D, the default FSX keybind for the A/P master was "z" although I thought for sure it was listed in the controls section.
  9. I will try this, and report if it works. Edit: Tried it and it worked. Thank you for your help. Will mark as solved.
  10. Greetings fellow NGX pilots. For the lat few months, I've been having a weird sound problem that doesn't seem to be replicated by anyone else on the internet. When I'm in the cockpit, in any stage of flight, and I switch to an external view, and then return to the cockpit, I now here a sound as if the engines were running at about 85-90%, including the growl of the supersonic turbine tips. If I'm on the ground with the engines off, I hear this along with the cockpit sounds (PACKS, hydraulics, fans, etc). When I'm in the air, this sound is overlayed on top of the actual engine sound. What's weird is it goes away after a decent change in N1. For example, as one engine starts, as its N1 passes between 16-20 on its way to idle, I hear part of the sound bug go away. It still remains for the other engine. When that engine starts and throttles up to idle, then that final sound bug will go away. If I'm in cruise, I have to wait for both engines to throttle back to idle for the descent in order for this sound bug to go away. But it does go away, and as long as I stay within the cockpit it won't come back. But the moment I switch to an external view, be it a wing view, flyby, overhead, or spot, once I switch back to the cockpit I get this sound bug again. For the record I do use the default FSX view system, which might be a part of it. Been thinking recently about EzDok, mainly to see if it will fix this problem. I would love to enjoy external shots of the aircraft again, especially during preflight and cruise. I apologize for the wall of text, just can't think of a shorter way to explain this sound bug. Any help is appreciated, even if it is "Buying EzDok will fix it."
  11. I seemed to have solved my problems by not switching windows while in the approach. Previously I would switch to another window to view a chart or wx. When I would switch back to FSX the joystick would no longer be recognized. I've now done two approaches and landings where I've never switched windows and stayed with FSX the entire time. Joystick remained functional. I think this may have been my problem, though I don't know if it is the problem for the rest of you. Try it out. Config: Saitek AV8R-01 joystick, FSX with SP1/2. Core i7-4700M, GT 755M graphics, 8GB ram
  12. So has anyone on this megathread actually solved the issue? Because I don't quite have the time to look through 57 pages of forum posts. :/
