  1. So, Jeff, you have seen such a contract between Steam and a developer? If so (without revealing names), what was the arrangement? What do you deem "equitable and beneficial to both parties"? Just curious, because there appear to be developers around here who definitely do not find the arrangements "equitable". BTW, Kickstarter hasn't done too poorly, either: $1,555,897,000 in pledged funding, with 79,068 successfully funded projects, to date.
  2. Just going by what Robert Young has posted. . .
  3. Yes, a business model of squeezing suppliers almost to the point of death, then pocketing billions. Not a bad way to do business in high volume, for both parties. If you can make 10 cents on a box of tissues that you sell to Walmart, then it is okay IF Walmart sells millions upon millions of boxes of your tissue. Same is true with Steam, IF you can sell thousands upon thousands of copies of your software. However, I wonder how many copies of FSX related software will be sold by individual vendors through Steam. Seems to me it all comes down to volume, which appears to be what is what Steam is selling to vendors. I guess time will tell whether "selling your soul to the devil" is worth it. In the case of Walmart, it was worth it for some and not worth it for others. Same is probably true for Steam vendors, maybe.
  4. Thanks for the quick response, Stephen. This is strange. Actually I get the opposite reaction. When I turn Live Camera on, then my last view in F11 is retained. When I turn Live Camera off, then it goes to the tail view when switching to F11. Also, if I do not start FSI, then the last view in F11 is retained. I must have missed something in your instructions. That's because when you enable Live Camera the General DHM options are no longer in use, hence your option to enable General DHM for external, or custom, views is no longer applicable. Stephen
  5. Since upgrading to FSI, I notice that every time that I go to external view (F11), the view is always at the tail of the plane, regardless of where I had the view set previously. Previously, I could set a view, return to the cockpit (F9) and the go back (F11) and my last view would be preserved. I do not have Live Camera enabled, since I do not use that feature. Can you help? Thanks ******************************** Forgot to mention, using v4.48.2
  6. I have found that REX Soft Clouds greatly reduces this effect. Although I still occasionally see the flickering from inside the cockpit, it appears to be completely gone from exterior views. FWIW
  7. I thought that Steam was the Walmart of the gaming software vendors!
  8. Carl, One of the best filters that I have found for Firefox is "Ghostery". It does a great job of blocking unwanted processes. It is a free add-on for Firefox and can be found at www.ghostery.com . You can select which processes you want to stop when you visit a page and the program will remember that process and block it at every site, unless you choose to unblock. It is simple to install and use, and it works great.
  9. I want to upgrade to FSI, but I haven't yet found any major change that justifies that for me. The elimination of cloud popping definitely would. Plus, I am not ready to jump ship and go over to the dark side. Regards, Wil OpusFSI does include a Selective Update mode to eliminate most if not all cloud shifts (please read the OpusFSI literature). However, I still recommend the improved OpusFSI Cloud Smoothing and also note OpusFSI requires far fewer weather updates. Just 2 or 3 on a medium haul flight, only once every 60 minutes or 160km on long haul flights. So I recommend the default mode with OpusFSI which is vastly better than OpusFSX in all aspects. Please read my reply post below regarding why it's best, especially in OpusFSI with its detailed cloud associations and medium/high level cloud layers. With the improved Cloud Smoothing it's hardly a problem. Stephen :-)
